I am looking to re home my giant baby boy. He is a Saint Bernard German shepherd just turned a year old and is already pushing a 130 pounds. He is a 130 pounds of pure puppy hes very sweet and very playful and be forewarned he is very drooly. hes up-to-date on shots and he is neutered. I just took a new position and am at work 10 to 11 hours a day. With it getting so hot outside it's not fair to keep him locked up while I'm at work. I would love to find somebody with a lot of property and a lot of love for saints. He was attacked as a puppy so he is slow to warm up to new dogs (he CAN live with other dogs but would a supervised intro) but ... (Read More)LOVES people. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

This is Max. Max is a pound puppy (approx. 3 YO) shepherd mix who loves to run, play, be pet and be loved. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard, dominant owners and either no other dogs or, possibly a dominant/similar sized dog (female, maybe??). Max is aggressive toward people and other dogs, though is loving to those he accepts. He has a sense of humor, has above average canine intelligence and will be a great companion for someone willing to address his aggression. His pound description was sparse...Timid and having to be captured with the noose thing. (I thought timid meant shy, but it probably would best have been characterized ... (Read More)as fearful.) I am moving/downsizing within the year (possibly sooner) and want Max to have the forever home I cannot provide. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Adrian is a sweet boy who is very cautious of his surroundings and needs a home with a decent backyard and an owner or owners who are patient and will be his best friend. In living with me he has slowly shown progress towards trusting people again but is still learning. Adrian would benefit from some basic training and more socialization but he is great on a leash, potty/house trained, and partly crate trained. My reason for giving him up is because I am the only one in my home who is devoted to take care of him but I have work and other priorities I must attend to, otherwise he has been amazing. Also, I do not have a sizable backyard at all ... (Read More)and without a decent backyard to run in Adrian is stuck inside and sad. Overall he is an amazing dog that just needs some time to get comfortable with his new surroundings and enjoy the outdoors. This posting will be short as by this weekend I will sadly have to take him back to his shelter in Tuscon. I will provide a leash, dog food, and toys with the adoption of Adrian. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-05-14-00516Skotch (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We rescued Skotch from an animal shelter in January of this year. He is a very good dog but it has become clear that our living situation is not a good fit for him. For the most part he listens well, learns and obeys commands well, and is good on a leash, though he is still in puppy phase so he sometimes gets overly excited. Even at a dog park, however, we do not take him off leash (he is left on his walk leash or a 50ft leash that lets him run) as he can be over excited and distracted by his surroundings and not listen to recall command. He is kennel trained during the day when we are at work but, about 30% of the time he can't hold it ... (Read More)the whole 9 hours we are gone and will pee in his kennel. For the most part he has been taught not to bark, though on a rare occasion he will get overly excited and bark. He is very friendly, though not much of a cuddler, he LOVES to play, especially tug-of-war with his ropes. We don't know his history but it's clear he has not been socialized with other dogs or people as he becomes over excited to the point of misbehaving. He is not aggressive or mean, but curious enough that he stops listening to commands. We have 2 cats and he has learned to be respectful of them, doesn't chase or threaten. So we feel he would do well in a house with other animals, given time and training to become socialized. He is patient and passive with the kids that live in our apartment complex, never shows any sign of aggression, so once socialized he would probably be fine with kids as well. He eats well. Plays well. Obeys well (for a puppy). And is really a good dog. However we feel it imperative that he be in a house with more space and a yard and people who would only need to leave him home for a short amount of time, rather than the length of a work day. He really longs to be a companion to someone 24/7 and would make a wonderful one. He was given a checkup by a vet a month ago and has a clean bill of health with all vaccines. At the time he had a small infection of his bladder, but with meds, that cleared up and there are no other issues. We will take the time to get to know people interested in him as we want to make sure he will be going to a good home that can meet his needs. For his benefit, we are taking on this responsibility, rather than returning him to the shelter. We are asking for the adoption fee mainly to offset all of the bling that he comes with: a kennel (Large) or two (also have an XL), toys, 2 beds (one fluffy and one durable Kong), a large stash of dog biscuits and bones, a dog food storage/feeder combo (holds 30 pounds and raises bowls off ground for better digestion), 2 walking harness (one Kong full body, one Puglife chest), a walking leash and a 50ft leash, a baby gate with a cat door. Any or none of these are yours if you want/need them. He has THE CUTEST FLOPPIEST EARS EVER and LOVES PEANUT BUTTER!! (Less)

Bumble was a stray that I tried to locate her owners for a few weeks. I've had her for six months now but am not home enough to train her or give her the attention she needs. She's a sweet, energetic girl that loves attention from my older dog as well as ALL humans (men, women, and all kids). She has been around other animals at the vet and always wants to play with them. I'm looking for a forever home for this sweet, sweet girl who is welcome to stay here as long as it takes to find the right home for her. Adoption fee will be split between myself and Rescue Me.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

%9D%A4%8FFAITH%9D%A4%8F I have been fostering animals for as long as I can remember-my mom was very active in the rescue community throughout my childhood. Over the last year or so I decided that I would start fostering medical dogs. Most of the dogs I took in were post op surgical cases from Maricopa County. I try to stay off the rescue pages nowadays because it is so hard to say no and honestly I began feeling like my personal animals were not getting the attention they deserved. And then came Faith... As I was scrolling through my facebook newsfeed I saw a plea for a dog at the shelter-not just any dog but a dog who I can only ... (Read More)describe as defeated. Blind, emaciated and curled up in a ball trying her hardest to keep warm. She had been surrendered as a 'stray' which I found hard to believe. How could a blind animal survive so long on her own? I had to meet her. I went to bed that night and hardly slept. All I could think of was this poor, fragile soul lingering onto life at the shelter. I was off work the following day and waiting at the door when the shelter opened. I found a volunteer and showed her a photo of the dog on my phone. She led me to the back of the building where many of sick and injured animals are kept. She was curled up in a ball just like in the photo but facing the wall. Her kennel was covered in bloody diarrhea, vomit and ticks. 'Hi sweetheart.' Her tail began to wag. She tried to get up and fell back down. She was so weak but wanted so badly to come say hello to me through the locked gate. Without hesitation I asked the volunteer to get me any necessary paperwork. 15 minutes later we were out the door. When we arrived home, I immediately gave her a bath, removed the ticks and fed her. She was so hungry! She vomited shortly after eating and continued to have awful diarrhea throughout the night. The following day we headed to Pet Urgent Care (where I work). We started with some general bloodwork and quickly learned that Faith was a diabetic! I was ecstatic at this news-not because being a diabetic is a good thing AT ALL but because I knew we could get through this and give her a chance at a normal life. Weighing at only 24 pounds we had a journey ahead of us but I was ready and it was apparent that so was she! We started out with small, frequent feedings. In no time I could see that she was putting on weight. Within one week she was strong enough to jump on my bed and oh man did she love sleeping on the bed-she didn't move a muscle all night. Getting her insulin regulated was no easy task but a few months down the road and we did it! Faith is now 45 pounds and at an ideal weight. We refer to her as the tap dancer at my house. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting her, you will understand why! Faith is good with other dogs-big and small, she is very curious about kitties but a quick swat from one of my boys sends her in the other direction. I have NEVER seen an ounce of aggression from this girl. It's time for Faith to find a home of her own; a home where she will be loved and cherished, a home where her new family can continue to make up for lost time. Faith was neglected for far too long. Because her diabetes was left untreated for so long (likely years), she is permanently blind but that doesn't slow her down! Yes, she runs into things but only when I move things around. She had my entire house memorized within just a few days. I am looking for a very special home for this girl. I would prefer that she go to a home with no children under the age of 8-not because she is aggressive, she is absolutely not but because she is blind. Faith will also need an owner who is comfortable giving her insulin twice a day-super tiny needle and she never even flinches. I am a vet tech with 10+ years experience and am willing to help every step of the way. I estimate Faith to be somewhere between 6-8 years old. She is spayed, current on her vaccines and microchipped. Please consider giving Faith a chance at a real life in a home that will love her until the end of her days! Rachel 913-206-1892 (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered

I found this very sweet male dog wandering in the Flagstaff, AZ area. He was very dehydrated and extremely skinny. I was able to find that he had a microchip and tracked down the owners. They informed me that they are unable to keep a dog and did not want him back. I had to put him with a local shelter as I am not able to keep him overnight where I live, but am willing to help find him a loving forever home. As I said, he is very sweet and seems to get along great with other animals and people. He did manage to get over a 5 foot fence when left by himself, so an FYI that he probably will need to be securely contained if left alone.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Captain Jack Needs a Loving Home 6-month old, male, black German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Yes Good with children: Older only Good with cats: Unknown We'd like to introduce you to the adorable Captain Jack. Jack and his mother Pearl were out roaming the desert when they were spotted by some concerned citizens. Luckily, they were able to pick up Jack and we cleaned him up and got him to the vet. Jack's left eye had some damage and we weren't sure whether it could be saved. Several weeks and a surgery later, Jack is much happier without his left eye. He is still coming out of his shell and is very slow to trust people. He will need a ... (Read More)home with a loving family who can be patient and help him learn to trust. But missing an eye won't slow this little guy down one bit. He loves to play with his kennel mate, Kooper, and seems to be OK with other calm, nice dogs. We recommend older children as he's still pretty skiddish, and he'll need stability and structure to blossom. We think he would do best in a home with nother dog who is confident that can help show him the way. Jack even won the hearts of the staff at the clinic where he had his surgery. They come to visit him weekly and are helping him come out of his shell. The best was his weekly visit with his mom. You should have seem him light up when getting to have play date with her. He's an adorable little guy that will make a wonderful family member with the love, patience and the happy home he needs to thrive. If you'd like to adopt Jack, please complete our online application to get the process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. All staff members are volunteers and are not compensated for their time and expenses. Many juggle family and full - time careers while volunteering at Saving Paws. Animal ID: KooperKooper (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Kooper! Kooper is the sweetest little girl you'll ever meet! She loves to bounce and jump so much that she has earned the nickname of 'pogo' with some of the volunteers. She's got a little bit of everything in her, including GSD. Kooper is the perfect size for someone not wanting a large dog but a little of the GSD look. She does well with all the dogs she's been introduced to so far and LOVES to play. She's a playful and energetic pup, but she didn't start out that way. Looking at her now, you would never guess that she was on the euthanasia list for a medical condition that was causing her to lose weight at an alarming rate. She was ... (Read More)originally picked up as a stray and weighed a healthy 37 pounds. As we would expect, she was quickly adopted out, but within a couple of weeks she was picked up again as a stray and the new owners never came to get her. Fortunately, she was adopted out again about two weeks later, but she had lost weight, but this was not something noticed in the county shelter system. Her new adoptive parents realized something was wrong and after medical testing, she was diagnosed with Megaesophagus, a condition that requires dogs to have a specific diet and feeding methods to live healthy lives. The new owners felt they were in over their heads and returned her to the shelter with the new medical information. Kooper was sadly down to 21 pounds and her health was now in jeopardy. She came to Saving Paws weighing only 18 pounds. SPR had the experience to take care of her, so she was brought in so volunteers could care for her. Volunteers have been working for weeks to find the right combination of foods, medications and feeding positioning. We are happy to report it's working and her feeding has become easier and easier! After two months, Kooper now weighs 35 pounds, rarely vomits her food and plays like the young 1-year-old she is. Kooper is active and happy, but her feeding needs make her a special needs dog. She needs to be fed in her Bailey chair twice a day. She has learned that her Bailey Chair means dinner time, so she's raring to go! She can be a little shy at first around strangers but quickly warms up once she gets to know you. We are not surprised as her x-rays show where she was shot with a BB gun! Although we haven't had her around kids, we think she will get used to kids over time. SPR is dedicated to making sure that Kooper continues to thrive so she will be a foster-to-adopt dog. SPR will provide the new family with her Bailey Chair, initial supply of food with directions and all the support to ensure that she does well in her new home. If you'd like to bring this pocket shepherd mix into your home, please click the link to start the adoption process. April is such a darling girl. She loves all people and loves attention. She hasn't quite figured out that she's not a lap dog yet, so she does like to climb up for pets and cuddles. She also loves to play ball. During her recovery, her ball was her favorite toy. She will play fetch ... (Read More)and give it back to you on command too! Being a young girl, April is full of energy and she will need an active family. We recommend older children as she still likes to jump and could potentially knock little kids over. She will need some training as it seems she's never had any. She does pull on the leash, but with some basic obedience training and plenty of exercise, we're sure she'll grow up to be a fantastic family pet. Because of her restrictions, April hasn't been around many other dogs, so we don't yet know if she's good with them or not. A meet and greet would be a requirement for any other dogs in the home. We also don't know if she's good with cats, but with all that energy, it's likely she'd give chase. Maxi, as he's known by his fan club at the rescue, is so silly and makes us all chuckle. ... (Read More)He's fascinated by the smallest, silliest things, like a plastic garbage can. This boy is going to be pretty big, so he will need a strong handler (previous GSD experience required) that will ensure he gets obedience training and socialization to help him learn his doggy manners. He hasn't really had any training, but loves people and definitely wants to please. So with some classes and structure under his belt, we're sure he'll blossom into a well - mannered, loveable big guy. Because of his size, he'll need a home with adults only or older children. He loves to jump on everyone right now. But this guy never met a stranger and loves to be with people. Maxi would thrive in a home with an active family - running, biking, hiking. I am an adoptable and adorable senior who was rescued from the Maricopa County Animal Shelter as a stray and where I was on the e-list with only minutes to spare! I am 9+ male neutered German Shepherd Chow Chow mix who lives with my Foster family. I don't know any tricks but I walk perfectly on a leash. I won't chew on anything except a yummy rawhide and I LOVE to cuddle, snuggle and I can't wait to greet you at the door when you come home. My foster mom is training me to learn more commands and hikes with me because she wants to foster more pups from the shelter soon. I would be happy in a large or small home with a yard. I am totally awesome and I would love to meet you, just let me know where and when and I we can have a date! Why work hard to train a new dog when I am the perfect package! (Less)

Special Needs: Tilly Is a Sweet Girl in Need of Love 4 - year old, female, mostly blind, German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Males only, selective Good with children: Unknown Good with cats: Unknown Tilly has been through a lot and now she needs a comfy, loving home where she can be the center of her human family. When she was younger, Tilly was attacked with another dog, and due to her extensive injuries, she lost one of her eyes and is mostly blind in the other. However, this sweet and loving girl doesn't let it slow her down. She's currently in a foster home, but doesn't get along with the female dogs in the home. After having been ... (Read More)attacked multiple times by other dogs and now being blind, she is understandably cautious around other dogs. This is why we think she would do best in a home as an only dog, or with a calm male who will tolerate her dominance and respect her boundaries. This sweet girl wants nothing more than a comfy bed, some toys to play with and people to love and follow around. She's been through a lot in her short life and we want nothing more than for her to be loved and happy for the rest of her life with a wonderful family. She is house trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash too! If you'd like to give Tilly her forever home, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Lewis is approx 1-2 years old, a mix between coonhound and lab But we do know is that he is patient with kiddos and other dogs. We busted him out from the Maricopa West Shelter. Lewis is a big ham! He relies on other dogs to tell him that people are okay, but his confidence is building every day! Lewis tends to try and lead people with his mouth so it is recommended that he live with older children. He absolutely loves going on walks and will let you know that the sun is down and it is time to go for that walk. Even though he loves walks, it still takes some convincing to get him in his harness. Lewis has the worlds biggest personality. He ... (Read More)likes to lean on you to direct you to scratching his belly and he will race you to bed. Lewis does have a kennel, but due to what we can only assume were long periods of kenneling, we never close the door. He is house broken and does use the doggy door. He is very good about not getting into trouble for stealing or chewing on anything in the house. When Lewis came to us, his hips were showing signs of muscle wasting, but after a vet visit and a few weeks of massage, therapy and walks, it has been determined that this was most likely due to over kenneling as well. Now he is healthy, happy and would love a forever home! Lewis would prefer a home with another dog who is active, but not a puppy. He likes to play but really doesn't like to be bothered when he is resting by other dogs ( mom can move him without a problem when he's sleeping, but only mom). Lewis is still learning that car rides are not scary so he requires a person or another dog his size to be with him on car rides. (Less)

Duke and Duchess were brought in together. They didn't seem to have a great previous life. They appear to be brother and sister. Some of the paperwork says they are part Greyhound, but they are definitely German Shepherd mixes. They appear to be traumatized, I don't know if the owners or maybe the neighbors threw things at them, but they are scared. They are progressing slowly but surely,, but they need time and a lot of love to let them know people can be good. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ada Is a Sweet Girl Who Loves People 8 year old, large, female, black and red, German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Unknown Good with cats: Unknown Good with children: Yes Ada is a large, senior girl, but she is incredibly sweet, gentle and loving, and we really want this wonderful girl to find a loving home. Ada lost her home through no fault of her own and would love nothing more than a loving, quiet home with people who are home most of the time to dote on her. This beautiful girlis housebroken and crate trained. And the best part is that she absolutely loves all people, especially kids! She seems to be fine with other respectful dogs ... (Read More)too. It's doubtful she'd be good with cats though as we've observed she has a high prey drive. She walks great on a leash and absolutely loves her daily walks. She's well behaved and has a smile on her face and gets excited when it's time to go for her walk. She's also a talker, especially if you don't get her dinner ready on time, which is so cute. Ada has Anal Fistula and needs daily medication as well as plenty of access to potty breaks. But she does great in a home where she would have access to a doggie door so she can go out on her own. She prefers to be crated when her people aren't home; we've observed some anxiety when she's left alone. And because she's so darn sweet and loving, it would be great if she could have a family that works or home or is homemore oftenthan not. She does love to play, but she's also content just hanging out by your side and watching Netflix. If you're looking for a friendly, sweet companion to stay by your side and keep you company, Ada is your girl.     My name is Jackson and I am a BIG boy. They say I am an Akita mix - I guess that means I am double special! I am tall and well over 100 pounds! That just means there is more of me to love and I am a lover boy! My favorite things are long walks on the beach, just kidding, I have never been to the beach before but, if you want to, I am game. I will do anything you want to do and I LOVE LOVE LOVE water! My rescue gives me puppy pools in the summer with misters and I LOVE IT! I lay down and try to eat the water, they say I am a silly boy. I also love ice cubes - toss me one, you'll see. I pretty much love everything about water! I love ... (Read More)to play with toys - any toys. I know how to catch a Frisbee and play with balls. I love stuffed animals too. I am down with car rides - anywhere you want to go, I would love to go too. I know how to sit, stay and shake. Also, I promise I will try really hard to learn anything else you want to teach me. The rescue says I have not lived with another dog however, but did used to play with other dogs and might be willing to share my home with a submissive larger breed female dog companion. My favorite would be to have you all to myself though! I am seven years young and super healthy and have a lot of love to give so please fill out an application and come meet me! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Our beautiful Nova is still looking for her furever home! Nova was rescued from the local shelter. Nova has been with us for a while as she needs a special home and we just haven't found the PERFECT fit we are looking for. Nova is about 4 years old. Nova prefers to be a one person dog. She picks her person and they are the love of her life. The other side is she doesn't like to share her person, so we believe Nova should be an only dog so that she doesn't feel the need to share her person or stuff with another dog. We don't know how she will be with cats, but given what we know an only pet home might just be the best for her. She wants to ... (Read More)be with her special person all the time, so her new person will need to work on establishing boundaries for Nova. Nova is very athletic and can jump pretty high. She is not crate trained, but she does know her bed and can be given a command to go to her bed. She is housebroken. She enjoys toys, and can amuse herself with them. She's has medium energy level. Her ideal home is a quiet home preferably with a female owner (or a male with lots of patience and understanding) . We don't believe that she would be best with children as she can bark at those who are not her special person. She would do best in a home were someone is home a lot and can give her the attention she craves. She will need some practice on her leash skills as she is not going on walks regularly since she will only go with her special person. We are looking for an adopter who would be willing to come and visit with Nova over a period of time and get to know her and earn her trust, therefore living near our center in North Glendale area would be best or a willingness to travel. We won't be adopting her out of the county. She is special, but we know a perfect home is out there. We would really love to see Nova get the home she is looking for but also know that matching her with a right fit is the most important thing we can do for her. If you think you can open your home and heart to this deserving girl, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started.
