German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gorgeous shepherd mix -- Phoebe is a young girl who's full of happiness, love, and play. She's exceptionally loving and friendly. Phoebe does require another dog in the home to keep her company (she's good with all dogs and all people) -- and needs a family where she will not be gone for too many hours at a time. She is a playful and happy gal -- still has some puppy habits and until she grows out of them and is trained a bit more, we recommend crating when her humans aren't home. For that reason, she must be in a situation where her humans aren't gone for more than 3-4 hours at a time, and not gone for 8-9+ hours a day -- it would not ... (Read More)be fair to her to be stuck in a crate all day (and she is not an outdoor dog). She is very bright, sits on command (seems like she knows 'sit pretty') and responds well to instruction so she will be great to train -- happy to learn about life under your guidance. Phoebe will be ready for adoption Wednesday, Dec. 14 and we're taking applications in advance. Phoebe's adoption fee is $300 and includes her spay, vaccines, rabies shot, microchip, collar, harness, and leash! Isn't she cute? :) (Less)

Sweet Adira is a happy girl with a sad story, but a very bright future ahead of her. When Adira was first seen at the county shelter by one of our staff members, it was hard to even get a good look at her darling face. Adira hid in the corner of her concrete kennel, turning away from anyone who tried to get her attention. Slowly this gentle girl let us see her and once we looked into her eyes, we knew we had to change her life!     Hello up for adoption is our 8 month old puppy Max. He is a very very loyal and good dog! Very playful and loves attention. He is a German Sheppard/Black Lab Mix. We have had him about 4 months now. He needs his 2nd shots and has yet to be neutered. Unfortunately my son has developed really bad pet allergies so I'm trying to find him a good loving home.

Izzy: The Dancing Diva 7-year old, large, female, German Shepherd/Husky Good with other dogs: Yes Good with children: Unknown Good with cats: Unknown Pretty Izzy was an owner surrender, but we really can't figure out why. This girl is an absolute gem. She does the cutest little dance down the hall when following her foster mom! Izzy is a soft, fluffy girl, but she does have some allergy issues. Her foster mom has figured out she's allergic to chicken based dry dog food. So, with a diet change, she's doing great now and no more itching, so she's a happy girl. She loves, and we mean LOVES, belly rubs. Anytime, anywhere, she's ready for a ... (Read More)good belly rub. She also has a cute way of doing 'downward dog' yoga pose when she greets you. This girl may have been left outside quite a bit as she still prefers to relax outside in the sun quite often. Izzy is housebroken, knows how to use the doggie door, doesn't need to be crated and gets along great with all other dogs. She even knows how to sit like a lovely lady for her treats. If you can give Izzy an indoor, loving home, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application. Ada lost her home through no fault of her own and would love nothing more than a loving, quiet home with people who are home most of the time to dote on her. This beautiful girlis housebroken and crate trained. And the best part is that she absolutely loves all people, especially kids! She seems to be fine with other respectful dogs ... (Read More)too. It's doubtful she'd be good with cats though as we've observed she has a high prey drive. She walks great on a leash and absolutely loves her daily walks. She's well behaved and has a smile on her face and gets excited when it's time to go for her walk. She's also a talker, especially if you don't get her dinner ready on time, which is so cute. Ada has Anal Fistula and needs daily medication as well as plenty of access to potty breaks. But she does great in a home where she would have access to a doggie door so she can go out on her own. She prefers to be crated when her people aren't home; we've observed some anxiety when she's left alone. And because she's so darn sweet and loving, it would be great if she could have a family that works or home or is homemore oftenthan not. She does love to play, but she's also content just hanging out by your side and watching Netflix. If you're looking for a friendly, sweet companion to stay by your side and keep you company, Ada is your girl. Although we were able to finally get a diagnosis and treat this severe infection, it is unknown at this point if the tendon contracture will resolve. With that said, it is possible that Fredy might have permanent limited use of the leg and will require ongoing exercises, heat, and massages to the area%A0to prevent the condition from worsening, and to remind him to use it as he prefers to hop around on three legs. He must also keep a healthy weight so that there is not added pressure to his front legs.%A0Fred's medical treatments are the primary reason why these doggies have been in foster care since July. However, they are amazing pups with wonderful personalities. Both doggies can be adopted together or separately. We don't know much about Huntley's past, but we're pretty sure he spent some time out on his own foraging for food. Huntley is very, very sweet, but also shy. When he first came to rescue, we could barely get him to leave his kennel. But with love and kindness from our volunteers, he's shown that not only does he love attention, this boy ... (Read More)loves to play with toys too. He prefers the company of women and seems to be particularly afraid of men, so his future family will need to be prepared to help him overcome his fear of men. Look at that adorable face, and he's got the cutest head tilt to top it off. We aren't sure if Huntley is good with other dogs, so we'd recommend a meet and great in advance. Huntley will require patience and love to help him learn how to be a beloved family member, so POSITIVE training is a must for this boy. He'll need help on his leash skills and commands to help build his confidence. We don't know if he's good with children, but he's a really sweet boy, so older, well-mannered children that won't scare him might be OK. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nosey Is Full of Life and Ready for Fun in the Sun 10-month, old, female, small, black-and-tan German Shepherd Good with other dogs: No Good with children: Unknown Good with cats: Unknown Nosey is such a little cutie pie! This young, energetic girl came to us very thin and looking a bit sad. But she is such a sweetheart! She really likes attention from our volunteers and acts like she hasn't had much before. We think she's just now figuring out how wonderful it is to have people dote on her. %BD%A0%BD%A0 This little girl likely hasn't had any training at all, as she's just learning to walk on a leash with our volunteers. But ... (Read More)she is really enjoying lots of love and attention and playtime. We're teaching her what toys are all about, and she loves nothing more than to run, run, run. We don't know if she's good with other dogs, although she does seem fairly reactive when walking by the other dogs' kennels, so a meet and greet would be a must. Nosey would likely do well with a very active family that could provide plenty of physical and mental exercise, as well as continual positive obedience training. She's a very smart and sweet girl who is just now learning how great life is with love and attention. So, she'll need outlets to help channel that puppy energy. We would recommend older children since she's rambunctious and may knock down little ones as she learns her GSD manners and develops into a beautiful, smart, loving family member. If you can give Nosey an indoor home, you must fill out our%BD%A0 online application %BD%A0to get the approval process started. We will only schedule meet and greets with an approved application.     Ghost: The Picture of Happiness and Love 11-year-old, white, large, male German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Yes Good with children: Yes Good with cats: Unknown What a gentle soul! Sweet senior Ghost is an absolute lover boy. He adores people of all ages and all he wants out of life is love and attention and a soft bed. And who can blame him! Poor Ghost was an owner surrender, and we found out shortly after taking him in that he had a tumor that needed attention. Low and behold, that was one big tumor. It was about 10 pounds! But luckily, it was benign, and Ghost has healed up and is a brand new man with an even better ... (Read More)personality since he's in no pain now. This boy is pretty funny. Just when you think you're done petting him and loving on him, he comes back for more. He just doesn't want you to stop. He loves walks and short hikes with our long-time fosters John and Deb. He gets along well with other dogs in the home too, although he does tend to react on a leash to other dogs when walking. If you want to see how much energy an 11-year-old can have, just get Ghost's leash out! He gets so excited! He also rides well in a car and loves taking trips. And this guy has been to some of our events and just adores children. He also likes to hang out by an open door or window and watch the birds as he enjoys being happy and relaxed, which is a joy to see. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Nettie's Sweet Spirit Shines Through 6-7-year old, large, blonde, female, German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Selective Good with children: Unknown Good with cats: Unknown Nettie, through no fault of her own, recently came back to the rescue and her adopter was absolutely heartbroken, as were all the volunteers who fell in love with this girl. Unfortunately, her adoptive family had a medical emergency out of the country with no estimated time of return. Poor Nettie was settling in so nicely at her home. But, she's in good spirits now after lots of love from our volunteers, who just adore this beautiful, sweet girl. She is an ... (Read More)incredibly easy dog if you're looking for a lower-energy, easy-going, but affectionate companion. Nettie is so sweet and just wants to be with her people. She absolutely loves affection and will cuddle with you, but also lays down nicely in her dog bed for naps. She walks well on a leash, but does react a bit to other dogs, although we think that could be easily corrected with training. She is selective in choosing her doggie companions, so we suggest a meet-and-greet with any potential adopters' dogs. Nettie is also very quiet, not a big barker. She adapts quickly to being a very happy house dog. She's not bothered at all by loud noise and is generally a very easy-going girl. She would be an ideal companion for a calm family or even a single adult. We don't know whether she's good with children or not, but it's likely she'd be fine with respectful children given her sweet nature. This girl does have some skin issues that we're working on. She has been scratching and chewing, and we're working hard to get her skin back to a beautiful, healthy state. She has a bit of weakness in her back leg, but is doing very well and gets around just fine. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Special Needs: Khaleesi the Snuggle Bug 2-year-old, female, vision-impaired, black and tan German Shepherd Good with other dogs: Larger dogs, upon proper introduction Good with children: unknown Good with cats: Unknown This beautiful girl was turned into the Apache Junction shelter as a stray and they contacted Saving Paws right away when staff members realized she was likely vision impaired. This girl is very sweet with people and loves hugs and snuggles. Because of her vision impairment - she is blind in one eye, but the other eye is fine - she does tend to react to people and dogs that approach her kennel. But once she realizes there ... (Read More)is no danger, she cuddles right up to you and just loves belly rubs and lots of affection. And she just loves to ride in the front seat of the car, which is adorable! The vet feels that with her vision impairment being caused by a birth defect, she may be a little slower to react as well. She seems to get along with other dogs upon proper introduction, but is a bit selective, so a meet and greet is a must for any potential adopter. Khaleesi is a strong girl that hasn't had much training in her life, so she'll need a patient, but strong handler who is willing to teach her how to be a proper young lady.     Sophie is my cute little baby. Yes, she is 7yrs old but she acts like 2yrs old. She loves squeak toys can play with them for hours. She loves long walks and can be a little pulley, which we are working on but she does settle in when she is done exploring every inch of her surroundings. her favorite thing in the whole world right now is sitting under her favorite tree with her favorite staff member (me :) ) just watching the cars go by. However, I know she would trade that in an instant to be able to do that with new forever parents. Sophie would be a great hiking partner, fishing, partner, or swimming partner. Of course she would also love ... (Read More)movie, popcorn night in front of the tube just relaxing. Sophie wears a coat of many colors and has the ability to adjust to any situation as long as she is given her guidelines. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our beautiful Nova is still looking for her furever home! Nova was rescued from the local shelter. Nova has been with us for a while as she needs a special home and we just haven't found the PERFECT fit we are looking for. Nova is about 4 years old. Nova prefers to be a one person dog. She picks her person and they are the love of her life. The other side is she doesn't like to share her person, so we believe Nova should be an only dog so that she doesn't feel the need to share her person or stuff with another dog. We don't know how she will be with cats, but given what we know an only pet home might just be the best for her. She wants ... (Read More)to be with her special person all the time, so her new person will need to work on establishing boundaries for Nova. Nova is very athletic and can jump pretty high. She is not crate trained, but she does know her bed and can be given a command to go to her bed. She is housebroken. She enjoys toys, and can amuse herself with them. She's has medium energy level. Her ideal home is a quiet home preferably with a female owner (or a male with lots of patience and understanding) . We don't believe that she would be best with children as she can bark at those who are not her special person. She would do best in a home were someone is home a lot and can give her the attention she craves. She will need some practice on her leash skills as she is not going on walks regularly since she will only go with her special person. We are looking for an adopter who would be willing to come and visit with Nova over a period of time and get to know her and earn her trust, therefore living near our center in North Glendale area would be best or a willingness to travel. We won't be adopting her out of the county. She is special, but we know a perfect home is out there. We would really love to see Nova get the home she is looking for but also know that matching her with a right fit is the most important thing we can do for her. If you think you can open your home and heart to this deserving girl, please fill out our online application to get the approval process started. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Emmy is an approximately 2.5 year old Husky and German Shepherd mix. She was rescued from the shelter just before she was to be euthanized for being a bite risk due to extreme fear. Her temperament at that time did support that evaluation, and it took a substantial investment of time and patience to allow her to trust people again. As this is the case, an adopter for Emmy MUST be capable of having the patience to allow her to develop trust for them. This means a secure home and yard environment, no attempts to leash her, and allowing her to initiate any and all physical contact. Emmy can not go to a home with children under 12 years of age, ... (Read More)and an adult home would probably be best to avoid any incident precipitated by a child unfamiliar with Emmy's needs making an error in early handling of her. Emmy is very friendly and comfortable with other dogs of small or large size and of either gender. If you can commit to the investment of a few months' time to earn her trust, Emmy will repay you with a lifetime of loyal companionship. We have seen this with our own eyes as we gained Emmy's trust, and we know she is capable of this same bond with you. Emmy would be an excellent companion for an active person or couple as she loves hiking and other outdoor activities. Emmy is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and health checked.
