I am a rather small shepherd and collie mix...now you understand why I have so many colors. I was born around November, 2012. I came to the shelter because my owner, my Dad, could no longer care for me. You see, he was a homeless man who had found me...a homeless puppy. Bobo was rescued from a tiny crate this August. He'd been caged for days in the heat with no water or food. He was just a few weeks old. My disabled brother has been fostering him. He's healthy, housebroken, and quite affectionate. He answers to commands such as sit, and down. He would do well as an indoor/outdoor, or outdoor dog!He needs more physical activity than my brother can give him. He's a beautiful black and tan medium sized dog (apx 35 lbs.)Very intelligent and protective. If I was a woman who lived alone, I would keep him in a heartbeat. However, I've got indoor cats and that just won't work. Can anyone think of someplace I can ... (Read More)take him, if not today, ASAP, as in this week, so Mike won't have to take him to kill shelter. Mike is begging me to find some place other than a kill shelter where I can take him immediately. As in today. The last two months at six and seven months of age, he's beginning to display some aggressive behaviour toward Mike's very old hound dog mix, and plays way too rough with the pomeranien. So, my anxious, disabled brother is very concerned that Bobo seems to be wanting all of the attention and has snapped at Scooby today (the thirteen year old patriarch and guardian angel of family). As Scooby is old and debilitated, even an unintentionally rough bite could have terrible consequences. As I say, I have never felt threatened by Bobo. I don't get the idea that he's in any way 'wired wrong', I think he's young and possessive and very strong. He was wonderful when he's been to the vet with the doctors and his assistants. He's been playful and loving when I am with him alone. Please, Please call if you can foster even for a little while. I am in North Little Rock, and Bobo is located in Austin AR just three miles from down town Cabot. I'd be so grateful for a yard with weather proof shelter for him. 2/21/13 You don't just get the name Sweetheart for nothing! The name certainly fits this pretty little lady! Sweetheart is sugar and spice and everything nice wrapped up in one amazing doggie! She is a young adult, 1 1/2 to 2 years old and appears to be a shepherd/heeler mix. She was dumped at the shelter on a cold rainy night along with what we think is her son, Valentine. They arrived very clean and in great shape so we think someone just got tired of them. We can't see any other reason for them to be with us. GRACIE 'Amazing Grace.....how sweet the sound!...I once was lost but now am found!' I am Gracie and I am both amazing and sweet! I am part lab / German Shepard. My foster mom says I have the prettiest face and eyes she has ever seen. She found me walking down her street....I was 'on my own' - no family, no home and no hope of surviving. My foster Mom would love to keep me but she has several other dogs and cats so she is carefully searching for just the right family for me. They say I am submissive to the other dogs...I think it is just that I am a very polite little lady! I am housebroken but I need to be let outside on a regular schedule. I am also crate trained. My name is Jasmine. How do you spell 'grateful?' You spell it J-A-S-M-I-N-E ... that's me, JASMINE! I think I am the happiest, most grateful sweet girl you have ever met. I am a gorgeous strawberry blonde SHEPHERD-STAFFORDSHIRE terrier mix with a little white on my chest, a black muzzle, ears and eyeliner(!) and the most soulful brown eyes you have ever seen! I think I was born sometime in 2008. I was very, very sick and the wonderful Humane Society people rescued and loved me back to health. My best friend in the world, Juno ( Staffordshire mix, born in 2008) and I were all alone in the world. We were abandoned way out in the country, ... (Read More)lost with no hope of finding food, water, shelter or anyone to help us. We were so sick and malnourished that our immune systems were unable to fight off parasites that are normally natural and harmless in dogs. We had HUGE open wounds all over our bodies; they were so itchy that we scratched all of the time and this made everything even worse....many of our wounds were from the constant scratching. It hurt so much. We had lost a lot of our pretty fur and keeping warm became even more difficult. Our sores then got infected and the sores were so deep and raw... we were dying a very, very, slow, painful death of starvation, exposure and disease. One day we saw a white van and it slowed down and the man tried to coax us to come to him with some food. We were so afraid that we ran and hid...but he left us some food. The next day the man came back...we were still too afraid but he left us food again. He came back the third day and, again, tried to coax us to come to him. This time, so overwhelmed with hunger, we let him put us into his van. We didn't know he was from the Humane Society and that he was rescuing us...but we did feel relieved that we were now being cared for. We were so grateful that he was so patient and willing to keep coming back until he could rescue us... that's what the wonderful people at the shelter are like - loving, patient, and determined to rescue animals that need help. We were so relieved to be warm, dry, fed, and safe. They took us to the vets and they gave us lots of medicine. They kept us in their office where we had warm beds with soft blankets; it was so warm and clean and they talked to us all of the time. We had food every day, TREATS, and the itching gradually stopped and our wounds were lovingly cared for. We are now healing beautifully! We LOVE being cared for at the shelter.....people are so nice to us and they are so gentle and kind..... we didn't know that people could be like this! Our deep wounds have healed, our fur has grown back and we are healthy now. I never knew you could feel this good both on the inside and the outside! I heard them say that we are both ready for our forever loving homes with a family now. I don't know what a 'forever home' is nor what a 'family' is. I do know that having a warm, dry, bed inside is wonderful, a full tummy is so special, not itching is such a relief and people taking me for walks and loving on me is just... just.... just almost too much to believe. They say I LOVE ATTENTION AND AM SO FRIENDLY. I am calm, I walk nicely on a leash and will make a wonderful fur friend. I need time to warm up to strangers as I need reassurance that they will be my friend. I just know that I am such a happy, grateful sweet girl that loves everyone. They say I will do best with kids over 12 yrs of age. So, now you know how to spell 'grateful' - it is me, Jasmine. Healthy and happy and ready for my new forever family and home! I can't imagine that life can be any better than it is now but they say that when you come to get me and take me home....I will be in doggy heaven. German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Arkansas if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
