Hugo is approximately 2 and a half yrs old, 60lbs, short hair mix. I think perhaps he is part german shepherd/boxer/lab/austr shepherd. He is a strong dog and he likes to run around and act like a goofball. He is playful and is just about up for anything. At home, Hugo is very well potty trained and he can be kept indoors. I usually let him out in the morning to do his business, let him out again when I come home from work, and once before bedtime. He has a place designated for 'go potty' and so very rarely will I need to pick up after him when we are in the middle of an excursion. He is a really quiet dog and sometimes he will follow you ... (Read More)around without you knowing but does try to talk to you to remind you that he wants to go play. He will bark at other dogs and whimper if you don't let him play with the other dogs. He does not destroy any property or chew furniture, he likes his squeaky toys and will occasionally play fetch, and chase. He does not eat food from the table or beg for food but he is a picky eater (unless there are other dogs around). Hugo is very gentle with other dogs. He is never aggressive but he has difficulty with letting other dogs play with his toys or eat from his bowl if he doesn't know that other dog well. He loves to play with other dogs and he is quite active. If given a choice between food or play, he will unfortunately starve. He thinks he is a small dog and personally thinks he is a lap dog. He's a little bit of a chicken and may not be the best dog for protection because he thinks everything and everyone is a friend (unless it's a squirrel, he gets squirrel crazy). Hugo will be best in a home with another dog because he is awfully lonely. A large yard and the great outdoors where he can play all day would be great. But the more important thing is constant companionship. He listens to commands well but has difficulty listening around other dogs because I think he is so lonely that all he wants to do is play with the other dogs. The owner is moving into the girls mothers house with some other gentlemen. They told him he could not bring his dogs. He was upset and did not want to part with him but he has some medical issues and he had to move where he could afford to rent and also pay for his medical expenses. It appears that he had a stroke of some kind because he had visible paralysis in his one arm and a bit on his face. So both dogs are at the shelter. Both are very good dogs. The older dog the bigger of the two is Huck which is short for Huckleberry and he is 10 or 11 and very mellow. The smaller dog is Barkley and he is 5 or 6. I believe the shelter has him as Barley but his name is really Barkley. I saw them in the same kennel when I left on Saturday. They are just really great dogs and I really felt bad for them and especially the senior of the two. These 2 dogs CAN be separated or kept together.
