Rescue Me ID: 17-10-20-00011Avery (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great New Mexico rescuer for saving Avery...she could see that her temperament is so kind and sweet that she couldn't allow her to be euthanized. Avery is the kind of very endearing girl that will lie in your arms and give a periodic loving kiss. Her great personality was the key to her being noticed and therefore rescued. Avery was immediately brought to be vetted and ... (Read More)temperament tested (she aced it with ease)... and then brought to a great foster home to receive pure love and begin her education. It turns out that Avery, at only 9 - 12 months old and 42 lbs. (expected by the vet to be approximately 45 lbs when full-grown) is so sweet and super smart.. it's become a fun and rewarding experience for her foster mom to watch Avery blossom. Avery is like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around her..she's incredibly entertaining when she gets going. If Avery continues this regimen of socialization that promotes positive relationships with other dogs and bonding with humans...Avery will become a well-adjusted and pleasant adult companion. Avery is an adorable German Shepherd/Lab pup with a stunning fawn-colored coat that, with great nutrition and care, will speak of the beauty of this very loving guy. A commitment to periodic baths and brushing as well as great nutrition will keep Avery's coat healthy and silky-soft. Avery's sweet demeanor is just who she is...she appears to be a bit more analytical than your average crazy pup. If Avery is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, she will become a well-adjusted dog who respects her people as her leaders. This is the kind of loving and committed family we're searching for for Avery. We also feel it's very important that Avery is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. She will learn valuable socialization skills through puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement obedience training classes. This will enable Avery to accompany her family to all the places that lead to great adventures out in the community. We've requested that Avery be spayed prior to her arrival in Colorado. Since New Mexico shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Avery's spay and microchip after her arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used. Avery will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 6/24/16. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-19-00452Alex (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The very first thing that Alex the German Shepherd/Boxer mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the striking golden colors that run through his soft as cotton coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Alex's coat will not only be silky soft..but shining with good health. Everything is new to Alex...he sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Alex is next to you on the couch or cuddling close as he sleeps through the night next to his favorite family members. Alex is so happy there because his human relationships ... (Read More)are so important to him. We have to remember that Alex came from a very tough and challenging shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Alex may be initially a bit shy. Once he's assured that all is well, he becomes the most loving guy ever! Alex is a calm and always sweet dog that wants nothing more than kindness and love...he returns these loving sentiments to his family a thousand times over. This 4.5 year old, 64 lb German Shepherd/Boxer mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Alex is one of the kindest and gentlest people dogs around...he loves adults as well as kids of all ages. Alex would be the greatest gift to a child...he is always gentle, calm and the most loving best friend that any kid could ever hope for. We envision Alex with an active retired couple or individual or a family with school age or older kids who want a very handsome and loving dog as a family member and best companion. Alex would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Shepherd mix, Alex loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please, that he would excel. Alex would be overjoyed to hike along gorgeous Colorado trails and paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Alex can have a moment of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned ever again. Alex's basic nature is to be positive and very joyful.. and in moments his silly and fun nature takes over. We've requested that Alex be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too few vets in this industrial area of New Mexico. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Alex's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Alex will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 10/21/17. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this extremely sweet, cuddly and fun-loving guy, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com, fax to 303-443-7730 or mail a hard copy to Farfel's Farm 906 Pearl Street Boulder, CO 80302. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-19-00307Angie (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Angie is an 8 week old Border Collie/GSD/Cattle dog Angie and her two sisters were brought to our rescue after being found on a reservation. These babies were only 4 weeks old and had no mom. They had to be bottle fed the first couple week they were in our care. These babies have been socialized beyond the normal human/dog socialization. they grew up the past 4 weeks on a farm where they snuggle and play with goats, chicken, etc. They are the best, happiest puppies. They get along with everything and everybody. Everybody who meets them falls in love with them immediately since they are so loving all the time. We would love for ... (Read More)these babies to go to a home where they could get lots of love, activity, and snuggles. They would be the perfect adventure buddies, or playmates for kids or other dogs. Since we do believe they have more active breeds in them, they would not be a good match for someone who is gone all day every day or lives a more low key lifestyle. If you are interested in adopting Angie or one of her siblings, please email us at brighterdaysdogrescue@gmail.com (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

A natural born people pup, gregarious Griffin loves being with people almost as much as playing. Then, when he's not grinning, he's either chewing on toys or romping around the yard. A moderate energy mister in need of more training to polish his skills to perfection, he doesn't do well with cats. But with his entire life lying before him, he would thrive in a patient and loving home where he's the focus of his adopter's attention and can get lots of exercise!

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-14-00015Chico aka duncan (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Chico aka duncan is a 2 yr old sheperd mix. lived two years of his life chained to a boat in a houston resident's driveway. He was given minimal food, water or shelter from the elements. We do not think Duncan ever suffered from physical abuse by his owner, however he endured extreme neglect. Neighbors who lived near Duncan were concerned and reported his owner to the authorities for over two years, with no avail. On August 28th, hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area, and Duncan was left chained to his boat with no shelter from the wind, rain or flood waters for all three days of the horrific storm. This was the final straw for the ... (Read More)community. After a collaborative effort, Duncan was successfully seized by animal control officers on September 10th 2017. Duncan was, understandably, a very scared boy during his first 24 hours in the shelter. A few nice ladies followed up on his status and were able to find a home that he could stay in to decompress and learn that all humans aren't like his previous owner. Within minutes of being at his foster home, Duncan began to blossom. His tough-guy persona quickly faded and all of his new friends were able to see that he is nothing more than a big baby who is eager for love. Many community members and interested people who watched Duncan's story unfold over social media sites have come to visit Duncan in his foster home. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him and has been amazed to see how sweet and funny his personality is shaping up to be. Duncan is not food aggressive in any way! Duncan is crate and potty trained and not once had any accidents since being with his foster family. He is a very naturally clean dog who seems to have very minimal shedding. He is very unique looking with his facial markings and his big beautiful eyes! He looks to be some sort of a shepherd mix. He is a medium sized dog that a small woman would have no trouble picking up. He still is a bit shy, and is easily startled at loud noises or unexpected movements, but his trust grows and his walls crumble more and more each day. His response to that fear is to retreat to his crate and hunker down until he feels the coast is clear. please apply at 2babrescue.com (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Kenzie was adopted from Longmont Humane Society at the end of 2011. She is currently 6 years old and roughly 60 pounds. She's a healthy adult that is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. For the past six years, she has been living in a rural community with plenty of space to run around outside and has been free to come in and out of the house through a dog door as she wishes. She knows basic obedience commands and is playful, loving, and eager to please. She is great with people and makes an excellent companion. As much as it breaks our hearts, she needs to be rehomed because she is in need of a place where she will be the ... (Read More)only dog. She has some resource guarding issues that have lead to her being very stressed and she can be unpredictable with other dogs. After seeking the advice and help of an animal behaviorist, she has improved greatly, but we believe she will be happier, more relaxed, and feel safer in an environment where she doesn't feel the need to compete with other dogs. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Klaus has waited long enough for a home of his own. I need everyones help in finding our boy his perfect home. Burt also known as Klaus is a very patient boy, you can tell by how patiently he has waited to find a family of his very own. Burt has been with us a while now and has proven what a good boy he is. Being between 5 and 7 he is all finished with foolish puppy antics but still has plenty of energy and life left to devote to a new family. Burt is current on all his vaccines and veterinary needs. This boy is housetrained, non destructive, and well mannered on the leash. Burt has been around other German Shepherds so we believe with ... (Read More)proper introduction and time to decompress he would be ok around other large dogs. He has too much animal dominance and prey drive to place him with cats or small dogs. Burt will be great in a family as he is fine interacting with kids or with adults. While we would prefer finding the perfect adopter for Burt we would also consider letting another rescue take him if you feel you would have more success finding an adopter. Health: Vaccinations Current

Kemba & her siblings were found living in a horse trailer in rural TX. They were terrified and covered in their own feces. Lucky for them, they were found by rescuers who quickly brought them home, bathed them and got them medical attention. Its been a year since Kemba has been with our rescue and her wonderful foster has truly changed her life. Kemba has grown so much. This is what her foster mom has to say about her: Kemba is about a year and half old. She is shy around new people until she gets to know them and then she is the sweetest. She loves other dogs, both male and female, and is playful yet submissive. I think she would do well ... (Read More)in a calm and consistent environment with another pup to show her the ropes. She is housetrained and knows how to use a dog door. Also rides well in the car. She is not super enthusiastic about being walked on a leash, but is making progress.
