Rescue Me ID: 16-04-26-00321Penelope (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Penelope (Penny) is a six-year old, 40-lb Lab/Shepard mix. She has been a great companion, but has some special needs, and we no longer have the finances and time she deserves. She knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, wait, and leave it. She loves walks, swimming, and belly rubs. Penny has a sensitive stomach and can only be fed limited ingredient (grain-free) foods and treats. She is never given table scraps or rawhide. She also has mild food aggression, but will put her tail down and growl as a warning first. She is very protective of the people she loves. She is not a 'play fetch' dog; she enjoys sniffing around and people watching ... (Read More)more. Although she behaves best with adult women, we have a few select men she is good with, as well as children and cats. We also have a bed, leash, crate, and food for her upon adoption. If you are looking for a loyal dog who loves adventure, Penny is the perfect match. We think she would be best with a couple or single person with time and patience, or who has experience with special needs pets. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-26-00083Ruby (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our Ruby is a beautiful gem of a girl, who at just one and a half years old, finds herself in Rescue. Ruby had been a stray for some time, before Animal Control Officers brought her to a local shelter. Every attempt was made to find Ruby's owners, but nobody came for her. In the meantime, she had the good sense to buddy up to our friend, Emily, who reached out to us on her behalf. Ruby appears to be a striking mix of Doberman Pinscher and German Shepherd. The most striking quality about Ruby is her deep brown eyes that seemed to convey soulful emotion in one moment, and impish charm in the next. Ruby has the classic black and tan Doberman ... (Read More)colors, as well as the Dobey elongated muzzle. Her floppy tipped ears give her the look of a court jester, and suggest the merger of the Doberman's natural ears with the Shepherd's pricked ears. She is a large, strong, 50 pound dog, but despite her size, Ruby is easy to handle on lead. She has a smooth, tri-color coat that requires minimal grooming. Ruby is a mix of two extremely powerful, intelligent working breeds, so the need for her to receive sufficient exercise and leadership training is paramount. She needs at least two to three brisk leash walks daily, as well as focussed playtime and consistent obedience work. Ruby has quite easily mastered her basic obedience routine and is on her way to Canine Good Citizenship. Adopters should be able to continue her training and achieve certification quickly. Ruby has a gentle, friendly demeanor and genuinely loves human contact. She would be a good choice for an active single or couple who can provide the exercise and attention that she needs, or she could join a family with older kids. Ruby is on the laid-back end of the personality spectrum, and while she loves to play, her style is not over-the-top rough-house. Ruby longs to make a connection to a great family. She is crate trained, but long periods of time in the crate cause her a little bit of loneliness. She needs a home where there is a lot of action and attention, and where she can shine as a superstar. Ruby enjoys the company of other dogs, and could easily join a multi-dog home. She has a neutral temperament that could blend into just about any kind of pack. We have not checked her with cats, but her demeanor is gentle, and we anticipate that she could coexist with cats nicely. Ruby has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Ruby is in excellent health, has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. Rescue Me ID: 16-04-21-00045Playday (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our handsome, elder statesman, Playday, has the gentle, loving temperament that could adapt to any kind of home. This sweet boy came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility where he spent some time, after having been caught roaming the city streets by Animal Control Officers. Playday was a huge favorite of Shelter volunteers and staff. Even the Veterinary staff gave glowing reports of his behavior, tolerant of their poking and prodding. He joined us as soon as his stray hold was up, and he was about to go on the euthanasia list. We were thrilled to invite him into our rescue, and he has adapted beautifully to foster care. Playday ... (Read More)is a striking mix of Alaskan Husky and German Shepherd. He is a medium sized dog, weighing 50 pounds, with a short, flat coat that needs occasional grooming. Playday has a calm energy that allows for easy handling. Shelter vets peg him as an older adult, who is probably between seven and eight years old. He came to us with the usual Shelter kennel cough, and he had a tough time fighting the bug. In the course of diagnosing and treating his URI, chest xrays revealed quite a bit of calcification in the rib cage and shoulder areas, revealing old fractures from traumatic injury, either from human abuse or auto injury. Playday must have a heck of a story to tell, but none-the-less his personality has remained sweet, gentle and extremely loving. Playday absolutely loves human connection and needs that unique adopter who values the quality of life over the quantity of years left. He revels in human touch, and can stand up to the affections of even the smallest child. He would be the ideal choice for first time dog owners, or for a family with kids of all ages. He could also join an adult home, and could live comfortably in either a house or apartment environment. Playday loves other dogs and would be the ideal companion to a senior dog who has recently lost his housemate, or a younger dog, in need of a buddy. He is always calm and non-reactive, blending seamlessly into any situation. He has been the ideal foster guest, and is constantly drawn into raucous puppy play. Playday gives as good as he gets, and he absolutely loves his girlfriend, Izzy. Playday has great house manners and is house trained and crate trained, although adopters should expect to troubleshoot a few accidents during his transition to a new routine. He is in great health, has been neutered, and had a complete dental. His preoperative blood work was normal and serves as an important baseline going forward. He has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), He has been boostered as needed. He has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. If you are interested in Playday, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860 908 9738 for more info.     Very sweet, friendly, family oriented 6 y.o. female dog. Grew up with and loves children, and being around people. House broken and has never been destructive. Recommended diet - grain free dog food. Was my sons dog since she was a puppy. He has recently moved and could not take her. I am not able to spend the time with her that she deserves.
