Rescue Me ID: 17-06-19-00057Gunner (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gunner is a super sweet dog we rescued from a kill shelter in South Carolina. He is a large dog and around 1-2 years old. We think he is part Belgian Malinois, but we are not really sure. He is literally the most loving, affectionate, and obedient dog I have ever met, and I only had him since 6/17. He is fabulous with other dogs, kids, and adults. I would though, not recommend him to a home with small children due to his size and energy level. Gunner wants to be with humans all the time, so he probably would not be too happy in a home where he is left alone for long periods of time. NO CATS! Located in Southbury.

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Gorgeous and sweet, Kate is nicknamed Misses Kisses because she loves to give lots of licks! She is very high energy, loves to play outside, go for long walks/hikes and play fetch! She also loves to snuggle up on the couch and chill out -- she's good with most dogs but can get aggressive around the time she goes into heat. She needs a big yard with a good family who can give her the attention and stimulation she needs.

Rescue Me ID: 17-06-02-00286Desi (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

One of the most satisfying aspects of rescue is witnessing a dog's profound transformation in spirit from fearful to joyous. Our Desi is a sublime example of just such a transformation. Desi had been a stray for some time before Animal Control Officers were able to entice her to given up her independence. Once at the shelter, she was assigned to Maria, who patiently worked with Desi for over 90 days before the pup seemed to relax to human touch. She was one of those special girls, whose sad brown eyes revealed a timid soul unsure of her place in the world. When she came onto our radar, we happily invited her to join our Rescue, and, slowly, ... (Read More)over the course of the first few weeks, Desi has blossomed into a relaxed and affectionate girl. Desi is an estimated one year old German Shepherd, with the classic, short saddleback marked coat, Shepherd head shape, and black and tan colors. We also see a surprising brindle pattern on her chest and legs that suggests likely Boxer DNA. Desi is a large dog at 53 pounds, but is slightly underweight. She could easily fill out nicely over the next year to reach an ideal weight of 55 to 60 pounds. We recommend a grain free kibble diet with added Omega fats and high quality protein as well as nutritious natural treats like pieces of apple, veggies, etc. Desi strikes us as an insecure girl, who needs strong leadership to help build her confidence. As a double dose of working dog, she will benefit from consistent obedience work to boost her self esteem and give her the sense of purpose that working dogs need to maintain balanced behavior. Desi is best suited to an adult home, with an active single or couple, who have the time to focus on her training needs. She has mastered all of her commands, and adopters should be able to get up to speed with Desi very quickly. Desi would be a fantastic companion to an active single or couple, who can provide a fair amount of exercise and leadership. She is reserved at first, but warms quickly to firm and patient human touch. Desi is easy to handle on lead and tolerant of other dogs. She could easily join a multi-dog home, with one or two calm, well trained dogs. We would like to steer clear of toddlers, because Desi might be spooked by their overzealous attentions. Desi has had little obedience training, but she is responding nicely to basic commands. She seems to enjoy the training, as well as the training treats! Desi is a quick student, eager to please, and responds to both positive reinforcement and leadership techniques. Adopters should continue her obedience work, not only to foster good behavior, but to give Desi the mental challenge that she needs each day. Desi has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in great health and has been spayed. Desi has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and she has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test: negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, microchipped and is on preventatives for Heartworm and Flea/Tick. If you are interested in Desi, please write to Denise@eskiesonline.com or call Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-14-00207Sandy (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our Sandy is a lovely lady who recently joined us from a Town Shelter, where she spent some time after Animal Control officers found her roaming the neighborhood as a stray. Sandy was a favorite among Shelter Staff and Volunteers, but sadly, at 7 years young, Sandy's shelter adoption options were limited. Seems that everybody wants to experience puppy hell, and too few people appreciate the considerable benefits of having an older dog, who is well past the puppy mayhem stage. Sandy appears to be a mix of Belgian Malinois Shepherd and Labrador Retriever. She is a tall, statuesque beauty, weighing 45 pounds. Sandy is a bit underweight due to ... (Read More)a bout of giardia, but has been treated and is gaining back lost weight nicely. She should fill out to 55 pounds or so, through healthy diet and exercise. Her short flat coat is easy to groom, and is mostly russet brown, with cream and black markings on her face and feet. Sandy seems more like a goofy Lab in personality, and she seems laid back, demure, and enjoys the companionship of her people. She seems to have a slight sadness about her, and is likely feeling confused and disoriented with the rescue process. Sandy has a very genial nature. She is a sociable dog, and while she has not had much background in obedience, she has grasped the basics and seems to enjoy the training exercises. She certainly is food motivated, and would be best suited to an adult home with folks not tempted to fuss with her while she is eating. Sandy is easy to walk on lead, and has a moderate exercise level, although that could increase as she gains weight. She would be happy with a few leisurely to brisk leash walks daily, and a game of frisbee. Sandy would be a great choice for a moderately active single or couple, a recent retiree or senior. She could easily do well in an apartment lifestyle, and can be trusted home alone for short periods of time. She could join a multi-dog home with other laid-back, sociable dogs, and she would probably be fine with cats. Sandy is a pretty good all-around companion dog, and needs to be in an environment where her golden years will be spent as the light of someone's life, rather than considered an afterthought. Sandy has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. She is in great health and has been spayed. She is slightly underweight and should be at an ideal at weight of 50 to 55 pounds. We recommend a grain free kibble diet with added Omega fats and nutritious natural treats like pieces of apple, veggies etc. Sandy is in great health and has been spayed. She has been vaccinated for Rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitus, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza, coronavirus), and she has been boostered as needed.
