The saddest title that can be held by an animal in a shelter is that of 'least wanted or least adoptable.' That title means this dog is the one consistently overlooked by anyone who has visited the shelter or seen a photo. Though loved by staff and volunteers, Ellie Mae is unanimously acknowledged as the least adoptable dog in the shelter. She and her sister Cindy Lou have another sad title between them, the dog(s) who have been at the shelter the longest-2 years as of 22 January 2011. The result can be perceived as an intense stare, but it is anything but that. Behind those eyes is the soul of a dog who struggles daily to be brave and to overcome her start in life. Ellie Mae has shown great fondness for one of the volunteers who has spent many hours with her. This relationship has shown that the ability for Ellie Mae to have her own person could be a reality. Observation at the shelter has shown that Ellie Mae does not appear to like cats or smaller dogs. She is not a biter nor does she have any threatening behaviors with people. She is just afraid. Should anyone step forward who is willing to give Ellie Mae a chance to become the dog that she is capable of being, a careful assessment by the shelter staff will be necessary to ensure that she is not further traumatized by a placement that cannot meet her needs. Though Ellie Mae has a special bond with her sister, she needs to be given a chance to thrive without Cindy Lou. Adoption of the sisters together would also be permitted, but for Ellie Mae to have any chance at a life away from that of a kennel run, she is also available as a sole adoption. Gordy is a 4 year old goofy shepherd mix. He is a big love and would make a great family pet. He has a deformed front paw - although it doesn't stop him at all. His tail is always wagging and he's a happy guy who seems inquisitive (the TV really interests him). He gets along with all our dogs and is an easy-going guy. While his paw is deformed, he puts pressure on it and can walk and run with it. He is waiting for someone to fall in love with his funny face and charming personality. His adoption fee is $195.
