Rescue Me ID: 15-07-26-00351Fritz (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Fritz is a handsome 6 year old German Shepherd who is likely purebred. He came to ACL as a stray, and we love him to death! Fritz is great on walks, likes to be pet and talked to, and he'll be content to be your companion. Fritz's dream home would be one where he could go for a couple of nice walks, play a little ball, and then lay in the yard or at your feet! Fritz is good with other dogs as long as he can be the boss, and he'll be good with kids over 10. He's a little skittish at first with new people, but he warms up quickly and totally comes out of his shell! Fritz is so charming - come see for yourself!

Kiki was in her own yard when a loose dog came into her yard and attacked her. The other dog was up to date on shots, and poor Kiki was not. She was quarantined and her family never picked her up. She found her way into rescue and is now being fostered, and has been renamed Keera to begin her new life. She was extremely thin when she arrived, and has been steadily gaining weight. Keera is a beautiful dog with an easy-going and calm demeanor. She will be ready for her new home, and I would love to have one lined up for when she is ready. She is working on basic commands, and once she is cleared medically, she will be a wonderful addition to ... (Read More)any family. Loyal, sweet, and very calm, she'll destroy the stereotype of German shepards and Rottweilers the instant you meet her, when she lays her head in your lap for some ear rubs. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Riley is a gorgeous, affectionate, happy-go-lucky 1 year old German Shepherd looking for a loving, active home. Riley was transferred to ACL from a rural county shelter who had reached out specifically on her behalf - they knew what a great dog they had, and they wanted to be sure she had the best home possible! Riley is wonderful with people and kids of all sizes - she's tolerant of handling, and she loves to be pet and cuddled. She's an active girl who's very smart - she really needs a home that will take her for runs or hikes and wants to do fun training like tracking, agility, or nosework. Riley is a typical shepherd - she benefits from ... (Read More)a confident, calm hand, and she will respond to insecure handling by becoming protective of her people. She responds well to confidence, though, and shakes that off easily. She's a bit dominant with other dogs, so we'd want to be sure the chemistry was right with a potential canine companion. Riley is a perfect German Shepherd, with all the talents and challenges that entails! If you'd like to meet Riley in person, please contact Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org so we can set up a meet with her foster family. (Less)

Teddy is a very gentle and sensitive one-year-old, male Chow/Shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Teddy was found running stray in Chicago with a broken hip. He landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control. He's since had surgery and physical therapy and he has healed so beautifully you would never even know he was ever injured.     Meet Captain! DOB 4/21/13 Weight approx.50lbs Captain came to us as an abandoned dog from Hardeman County Tennessee. He is very social and just wants to know that you are there for him and that he won't be abandoned again. He is an incredibly sweet and loving boy that greets everyone by putting his paws around you and giving a big hug. He is truly a Gentle Giant! He is house broken, super sweet and wants nothing more than to be loved. Because he was abandoned and left in the shelter, he had some separation anxiety, but this has diminished greatly now that he has learned that people can be good. He is a bit of an escape artist when ... (Read More)crated and prefers to have free roam and human companionship. There is nothing that makes him happier than hanging out with people! Captain is quite phenomenal! He is a big, loving, lug that adores people and especially loves children! Sadly, Hendrix guardian was stabbed to death in Waukegan and Hendrix ran off. He lost his eye somewhere along the way and he takes medication for epilepsy.     Petunia is a loving, friendly two year old tricolor shepherd mix. Petunia loves toys and cuddles, and she makes a great walking and hiking buddy. We believe Petunia was kept outdoors for most of her life - she's still very unsure of normal household situations.     Buddy was rescued with his mother and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. There was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father. Rocky looks like a longer coated shepherd collie mix. He is very sweet, and very shy with strangers. They came from a terrible situation. All 5 dogs rescued from the location are terrified of children and run and hide. He is very submissive with teens and adults. and would prefer to also hide from them until he knows them. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. He is great with a wide range of dogs, submissive to them yet loves to play and even the crabby dogs who don't want to play often learn to play when they are kenneled with him. He has no interest in cats. A home with another happy outgoing dog would be perfect so he can gain more confidence from the other dog. He is one of my favorite dogs as hard as I try not to have favorites. He has a sweet collie personality. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption.     Rocky, Right in photo, was rescued with his mother, on the left in the picture, and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. there was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father, but he doesn't look like he has a purebred shepherd father. Rocky is the only one with a curly tail. He is very sweet, with a goofy personality. They came from a terrible situation and Rocky adjusted the fastest to the fact we wouldn't hurt him. All the dogs from this residence are terrified of small children but have adjusted pretty well to teens or adults. He is very shy until he knows someone. He loves attention! He has ... (Read More)learned to walk on a leash fairly well, is crate trained. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. Rescue Me ID: 14-04-21-00625Wilson (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido's came to his rescue. Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in ... (Read More)a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend. Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training. Wilson is very healthy, de-wormed, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and heartworm-tested. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Wilson, please fill in the online application at http://famousfidorescue.com/rescueforms/machform/view.php?id=26727 and follow up by contacting Gloria at fido@famousfidorescue.com or 773-907-0305. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescues of Famous Fido's. The rescue has dogs of all sizes and ages looking for loving guardians. They spend their days at 5430 N. Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. Make an appointment to stop in and meet some of these lovable souls. (Less)
