German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Preston is still looking for his forever home! SEE VIDEO! This is such a gentle sweet dog but something has happened to him in his previous life and he is scared and untrusting. He needs someone with patience who wants to work with a dog that needs to build up his confidence. He would do best in a quiet household because he is afraid of loud noises and sudden movements. He has some funny quirks like he won't come in the house past the doorway unless I pick him up or walk him in. He likes to eat in his crate when it's dark. We really wish we knew what made this poor dog so afraid? It's heartbreaking to see him so scared here. Preston would ... (Read More)love a quiet foster home so he isn't so scared. He gets long with other dogs and loves his crate. He would make such a great friend to someone who just wants a quiet gentle to be their life long best friend. He is really a low maintenance kind of a dog that never chews stuff and he has all around excellent household manners. He would love a foster home until we find that special person that wants to give Preston a home!     This is Jack (or Captain Jack, as we like to call him!) We rescued him last fall from an abusive situation (He had been physically abused by his owner resulting in a severe leg injury) Our vet called us and asked if we could help with his medical costs and we ended up fostering him while he recovered. He is now fully recovered from his injuries. He's about ten months old, we think. We have spent a lot of time on his training--he spent two weeks at a doggy bootcamp-- and he is fully housebroken and is good on a leash. He's good with our other three dogs, but they have not adapted well to his size and energy level (they are elderly, small ... (Read More)dogs). Jack would do great in a house with another dog his size who would love to play and run around with him. He's fine with our cats, too! He's a really good boy and is very smart and eager to please. We have a crate for him, and several different colors and training equipment that we will send along with him. We're looking for a perfect forever home for him! (Less)

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Hendrix is a handsome and dog-friendly five-year-old, 55-pound, male, red Chow-mix looking for a loving guardian. Sadly, Hendrix guardian was stabbed to death in Waukegan and Hendrix ran off. He lost his eye somewhere along the way and he takes medication for epilepsy. He is housebroken, but needs to relieve himself more often due to his epilepsy medication. All Hendrix wants is a bone to chew on and a soft bed to lie in. He's a little stubborn so he's best with adults and teens, not small children. Hendrix is wonderful on leashed walks. He's also wonderful with other dogs. Hendrix's adoption fee of $300 ... German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sully is an adorable, super friendly, sweet 7 month old small shepherd mix with a huge heart. Sully came in to us as a stray and no one claimed him. Sully adores being with people, going for walks, and playing. He's a happy-go-lucky guy who just wants to hang out and have fun! Before Sully came to us, he had been hit by a car and his pelvis had been broken and healed incorrectly. The injury doesn't cause Sully any pain, but he has a goofy walk that we think just increases his charm! Sully would make a great pet for a home with children or other playful dogs - he's just a cool puppy looking for a home!

Conan is a mild mannered dog who likes to explore, and loves company. With my family's busy lifestyle I don't have the time needed to give him the attention he needs. We live on a farm and fencing in an area big enough for him to exercise is not feasible. Someone with a large fenced yard, or someone with time to take him on walks would be great.     Bruiser is a handsome eight-year-old, male black shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Bruiser's family gave him up to Chicago Animal Care and Control, and Oak Park Animal Care League rescued him from there. He may be middle-aged, but he still loves to play fetch and go for long walks! He has the typical loyalty, intelligence and protectiveness of a shepherd. He loves to be pet and brushed, is housebroken, walks great on leash and is active but also enjoys his naptime. Bruiser loves people of all ages, but could make friends with another dog as well. Due to his protectiveness, he is looking for a very special and patient ...     Meet Chelsea - 3 Year Old Coonhound / Shepherd Mix Chelsea was found as a stray in Tennessee in January of 2014. She was found to be Heartworm Positive which may have deterred potential adopters due to the cost of treatment. In July of 2014, our rescue visited the Tennessee shelter and met Chelsea. She stood out in the hearts of our volunteers and in October we brought her into our program in Illinois and treated her for Heartworm. When Chelsea left the shelter she was a typical rambunctious dog that had been cooped up for too long. She loved to run and play with the other dogs in her foster home and loved to have the freedom to run in a ... (Read More)fenced in yard. She would occasionally jump up for attention or 'mouth' you by putting your hand or arm in her mouth if she is not getting all the attention she would like, but we are working on this and she stops as soon as you say 'No'. She had almost fully corrected this before she had her Heartworm treatment, but since she had to be kept quiet with minimal activity, she started doing this for attention. This has diminished again now that she is allowed more exercise. Chelsea does not wag her tail to show she is happy. At one time in her life, she suffered an injury to her tail that makes her unable to wag. You can see happiness in her ears, eyes, and facial expressions, but she just cannot wag her tail. What she lacks in wagging, she makes up for in beauty! Chelsea quickly learned house manners. She willingly goes into her crate and sleeps at night, but also sleeps in bed with her foster occasionally and prefers that! With only a couple of corrections, she learned what toys were hers to play with and chew (she loves Nylabones!) and leaves everything else alone. She is crated during the day, but only because there are several other dogs in her foster home. When left out and alone for short periods, she has gone to lay in a bed or a chair to wait for her people to return. She is housebroken and will ring a bell hung on the door to let you know she needs to go out. She gets along great with other dogs and children, she has not been exposed to cats. Chelsea is an amazing dog that would make an excellent addition to a family that is willing to give her the love and attention she deserves. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance.     Petunia is a loving, friendly two year old tricolor shepherd mix. She came to us as a stray, and though she was never claimed, it's clear from her happy-go-lucky attitude with people that she was once loved and cared for. Petunia loves toys and cuddles, and she makes a great walking and hiking buddy. We believe Petunia was kept outdoors for most of her life - she's still very unsure of normal household situations. She was startled by a ceiling fan! For this reason, Petunia needs a home that's willing to take her to training and to be patient with her as she learns to be an inside pet for the first time in her life. Petunia is housebroken, ... All 5 dogs rescued from the location are terrified of children and run and hide. He is very submissive with teens and adults. and would prefer to also hide from them until he knows them. He loves attention from us, is cuddly and happy, but is still learning new people won't hurt him at random. He has learned to walk on a leash fairly ... (Read More)well, is crate trained. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. He is great with a wide range of dogs, submissive to them yet loves to play and even the crabby dogs who don't want to play often learn to play when they are kenneled with him. He has no interest in cats. A home with another happy outgoing dog would be perfect so he can gain more confidence from the other dog. He is one of my favorite dogs as hard as I try not to have favorites. He has a sweet collie personality. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption.     Rocky, Right in photo, was rescued with his mother, on the left in the picture, and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. there was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father, but he doesn't look like he has a purebred shepherd father. Rocky is the only one with a curly tail. He is very sweet, with a goofy personality. They came from a terrible situation and Rocky adjusted the fastest to the fact we wouldn't hurt him. Rescue Me ID: 14-04-21-00625Wilson (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido's came to his rescue. Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in ... (Read More)a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend. Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training. Wilson is very healthy, de-wormed, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and heartworm-tested. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Wilson, please fill in the online application at http://famousfidorescue.com/rescueforms/machform/view.php?id=26727 and follow up by contacting Gloria at fido@famousfidorescue.com or 773-907-0305. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescues of Famous Fido's. The rescue has dogs of all sizes and ages looking for loving guardians. They spend their days at 5430 N. Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. Make an appointment to stop in and meet some of these lovable souls. (Less)
