Animal ID: 157047486Mishka (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Mishka a 9yr old female spayed needs new home due to death and illness of her previous owners. She has received a 3yr rabies vaccine from Ashton Animal Hospital which will not need to be renewed until 1/19/2018. Mishka is well trained and highly intelligent. She likes to run and needs a lot of attention. I have not had her off leash as she has a good nose and keen eyesight and will chase squirrels and other animals. She will need a safe and secure dog run or kennel when left alone. She gets along well with cats as long as the cats are accepting of her. Mishka can be possessive of treats and her dog bowl and will guard these items. She can ... (Read More)also be a bit possessive of her pack leader human when other dogs are around. Best if she is the only dog in her new home and unfortunately does not ride in cars or trucks well (she shakes and pants but does stay in her seat). She will follow her new human everywhere while in the home and likes to sleep in bed, but will sleep on the floor if you ask her too. All interested persons will be interviewed, homes inspected and any past veterinary records of previously owned pets will need to be reviewed in order to assure that she is going into a secure and loving home. If interested please call Peggy at 815-627-9538. At this time Mishka is located in Earlville Illinois (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Destiny is a four-year-old, 60-pound, smart, affectionate and loyal, female black shepherd/terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. Destiny was rescued after surviving a neglectful and abusive puppyhood. She is currently living in a foster home with two Great Danes who she loves to herd, play with, and chase. After acclimating to her foster home she has proven mild-mannered and calm. However, she does carry with her the residual fears from her traumatized youth. She is incredibly loving and devoted to her foster dad, and seeks out his attention and approval. She is also very protective of him. Destiny is housebroken and kennel-trained. ... (Read More)Destiny is sometimes nervous in new situations and when meeting new people. However, she's a smart girl who can acclimate if given time and patience. Destiny is also nervous meeting new dogs and requires a gradual introduction; she does best with dogs her size and larger. She does not do well with small dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. Like most dogs, Destiny loves routine '| her morning belly rubs, playing with her favorite Great Dane friend and going for walks. She gets nervous with change. So, Destiny is looking for an experienced and patient dog-lover preferably with another large dog to give her the consistency and calm life in which to thrive. If you'd like to meet and possibly adopt Destiny, please fill out an adoption application at http://www.acaringplacehs.org and follow up by contacting the rescue group directly at acaringplace@comcast.net or 630-375-7976.     My aunt and uncle from southern Illinois have two white, full blooded, beautiful German Shepherds that desperately need a home. A going-on-two female & a 6 year old male. They can be, or seem aggressive (most likely because they aren't fixed), but are very loving & PROTECTIVE once they get to know you. Have never been around children. Would be awesome watch dogs. They have had their shots but, as mentioned, are not 'fixed.' They are FREE, and can be kept together or separated . Full disclosure also...these dogs have most likely not been properly house trained/potty trained, knowing the situation they are currently in. So anyone that is ... (Read More)opening their home to them would need to be aware that they will need some training. PLEASE share because these dogs are going to be euthanized by animal control MONDAY 1/26 if they do not get a home. They are going to be euthanized because the house where they live is now condemned. =( (Less)

Gretta is a gorgeous 4-5 year old purebred female sable German Shepherd in need of a loving and permanent home. Poor Gretta was abandoned at a kill shelter in Kentucky. Her owner's had purchased her when she was a puppy from a breeder to use a breeding dog for their kennel. When she could not have puppies anymore they dumped her at a shelter. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-04-00132Grace (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace was rescued with her mother and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. There was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father, but she doesn't look like she has a purebred shepherd father. She is very sweet, with a very shy submissive personality. They came from a terrible situation and Grace took the longest to adjust to the fact we wouldn't hurt her. All the dogs from this residence are terrified of small children, completely submissive even if cornered, they hide their head, even when picking them up. She is still very shy until she knows someone. She loves attention from us! She has learned ... (Read More)to walk on a leash, is crate trained. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, spayed and on heartworm preventative. Mom has been adopted and they couldn't be happier with her. They tried to adopt Grace at the same time but Grace was so fearful and they had a lot going on so they returned her. It did wonders for Grace though she is more outgoing then she had ever been. They loved her but just didn't have the time to walk her to potty when Grace was scared of everything around. A fenced yard would be very helpful. She is very smart and will be a very devoted dog for a nice quiet person or older family. She may never adjust to the commotion of children. (not that she's bad in anyway just so very frightened of them, she would be fine with visiting children since she would just hide.) Her adoption fee has been paid by the family who loved her but felt so terrible they just didn't have the time right now for her. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption.     All Duke wants is a real home who will love and care for him forever! Duke was in a kill shelter out of time, they had held him 4 months hoping someone would adopt or rescue him because the shelter workers liked him so much. He had been picked up as a stray and was not claimed. A friend contacted us and we couldn't say no, even though large, black, and older often means he will be passed over for adoption and live in a kennel here a long time. We had him neutered, had a couple benign ... (Read More)lumps removed, and his teeth cleaned. The vet guessed him to be about 8 years old and said his teeth were in great shape. He was treated for heart worms, is current on vaccinations and microchipped. He is housebroken, crate trained and a great dog. I don't know how he is with children. He likes to be boss over the food and toys with other dogs so being an only dog, or with a happy submissive dog would be best. He will lay down to play with our puppies and was very sweet and careful, but didn't want them to come near him when he was eating. He is fine with cats. He really doesn't know any commands that I know of but would love someone who would like to teach him some fun tricks. He loves to fetch and play with his favorite big kong toy, and tough tennis balls. He's well housebroken. Even though he's older he can play like a puppy. Rescue Me ID: 14-10-13-00750Piper (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

DOB 2/14/13 Piper was a stray in rural Missouri, a place where dogs are commonly left behind when the owners move or can no longer afford their care. Many of these pups don't make it, but Piper was lucky enough to be found by a compassionate soul that arranged for her to join our rescue. Our best guess is that she is a lab/husky/shepherd mix, but we are sure there are several other beeds that contribute to her stunning looks and amazing intelligence. Piper is about 18 months old and is very smart! She is potty trained, crate trained, walks great on a leash, knows all basic commands, and rides well in a car. She loves to play with other ... (Read More)dogs, go on long walks and run around in the backyard. Piper can also be silly and makes her fosters laugh at how goofy and cute she is. If you are looking for a pup that is well rounded and lively, Piper would like to meet you! Piper does not have very small children in her foster home. She does still have the energy of a puppy and wants to play with everyone. Small children may occasionally be overwhelmed with her size and energy level. We have also discovered that Piper does not appreciate the curiosity of cats! Piper is a wonderful, sweet dog that is looking for a HOME to call her very OWN! Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at safehavendogs@yahoo.com. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Eddie is a handsome boy who was left behind with 4 other dogs when his owners moved away. One of which was thought to be his mother was found shot and dead in the house, another dog had been shot outside and was laying there dead. Eddie kept returning to lay next to the dead dog in the house and was very frightened. The neighbor was threatening to shoot the 3 remaining dogs if they were not gone. A rescue stepped up for the 2 female dogs leaving Eddie all by himself with the dead dogs. We offered to take Eddie when no one else would. He was caught by a great rescuer who is the one who let everyone know of the dogs plight. Put in boarding ... (Read More)for vetting and until we could get transport, he was voted the best pet at the Vet hospital he was being boarded at! Very shy at first but once he knows you he is just such a loving dog. He has a great personality, gets along well with a large variety of dogs, and is low energy. We haven't had him around any children so not sure on children. He is shy around strangers unless they take the time to let him warm up. He didnt know how to walk on a leash and is still a bit unsure about it but it is amazing how fast he learns and wants to please for attention. He is fully vetted, heart worm positive and on slow kill heart worm treatment. About 60 pounds and 2 to 3 years old. We required a vet clinic phone number you use currently, or if no current pets your last vets number to call for a reference prior to adopting. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy was rescued with his mother and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. There was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father. Rocky looks like a longer coated shepherd collie mix. He is very sweet, and very shy with strangers. They came from a terrible situation. All 5 dogs rescued from the location are terrified of children and run and hide. He is very submissive with teens and adults. and would prefer to also hide from them until he knows them. He loves attention from us, is cuddly and happy, but is still learning new people won't hurt him at random. He has learned to walk on a leash fairly ... (Read More)well, is crate trained. About 10 to 11 months old, UTD vaccination, neutered and on heartworm preventative. He is great with a wide range of dogs, submissive to them yet loves to play and even the crabby dogs who don't want to play often learn to play when they are kenneled with him. He has no interest in cats. A home with another happy outgoing dog would be perfect so he can gain more confidence from the other dog. He is one of my favorite dogs as hard as I try not to have favorites. He has a sweet collie personality. A current or past vet you have used for pets number is required for us to call for a reference prior to adoption. We have many other rescued dogs available also to choose from. Contract on adoption. Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Luna is a very beautiful, sweet, snuggly and active, nine-year-old, 62-pound, female White German Shepherd with three legs looking for a loving guardian. Luna was found running stray near Lincoln and Kimball in Chicago on May 28th. Despite the fact that she is micro-chipped, all attempts to find her original guardian have been unsuccessful. She was adopted from the Sangamon County Animal Control nine years ago. We don't know what happened to her leg, but running stray, she could easily have been hit by a car. With only three legs, Luna still runs fast! In the home, she's perfectly housebroken, non-destructive and a lovely couch potato who ... (Read More)enjoys resting on the couch. In the yard, she chases squirrels and bunnies, so she's looking for a home without cats, bunnies or even other dogs. Typical of a shepherd, Luna has a big scary bark, but once you get to know her, it is all bluff and bravado. She loves treats and they are certainly the way to her heart; she takes them appreciatively and very gently from your fingers. She is strong and strong-willed; so she's looking for an experienced shepherd-lover to take her under their wing. Luna is healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and fecal-tested. To meet and possibly adopt Luna, please contact her rescuer and foster mom Aggie at adorosz@yahoo.com or 773-980-0250. Her adoption fee of $125 benefits rescued pets. She is being fostered near Lincoln and Kimball in Chicago, Illinois. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido's came to his rescue. Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in ... (Read More)a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend. Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training.     Destiny is a three-year-old, 60-pound, smart, affectionate and loyal, female black shepherd/terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. Destiny was rescued after surviving a neglectful and abusive puppyhood. She is currently living in a foster home with two Great Danes who she loves to herd, play with and chase.
