Rescue Me ID: 14-08-24-00067Duke (male)

German Shepherd Mix

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

We were contacted by a friend in rescue about Duke. He was found as a stray and at animal control for 4 months, because he was such a good boy they kept him much longer then most, but his time was up as space is limited and no rescue would take him and one wanted to adopt him. Rough guessed to be about 8 years old. he has 2 growths that are benign and getting removed on 8-26-14 along with getting neutered. He is heart worm positive and getting meds for treatment. Duke acts like a giant puppy, loves people, and seems to be good with the other dogs. We have only had him a very short time when I posted this, please email for an update as we ... (Read More)don't know much about him yet. He was only 85 pounds when we got him and should be 100, we will get his weight to where he should be. He looks like a Newfoundland shepherd mix to us. Big heavy built boy. We rescue dogs, many breeds and sizes available. We love all Dogs, they are our world, even big old boys like Duke! Adoption fee is negotiable, a current vet number you use to call for a reference is required. We would love Duke to have the best home he has ever had in his life for retirement! Old is not a reason to be unwanted. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-20-00464Bunny (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'OMG!! Look at that face!! So cute!! Love it'!! That is the reaction our little Bunny, 9 lbs, 8 weeks, gets when people meet her. She is very sweet, has a great disposition, and the most popular kid on the block. She was rescued with her mom and siblings, when she was 2 weeks old. Now it is time for her to find her own forever family. We believe her breed mix might be Boxer/Lab, or as they are also known as Boxadors :), maybe some Shepherd. She has a very soft coat, and the fur on her tail is getting long. Being raised with a foster family, she loves meeting people, especially children. She is great with other dogs, but at the ... (Read More)same time she respects their space. For a puppy this age, she has a pretty good balanced temperament. She can be submissive, laid back , and can entertain herself, but also has a very playful side. Once introduced to the baby pool, she instantly loved it, and had a blast splashing and jumping in and out! Since Bunny is so young, she will need someone home most of the day, to continue her socialization and training. We have begun housetraining, learning basic commands like sit, come, and feel she is catching on quickly. She wants to please, so Bunny responds to simple corrections. Leash training is going very well, and she loves to go for walks. One lucky family will be rewarded with lots of puppy kisses, puppy cuddles, and a face that will melt your heart (3 We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email for an application at Caseysdogs@yahoo.com. Bunny's adoption fee is $295 and includes her age appropriate shots, fecal test, deworming, micro chipping, spay, frontline, 30 days of shelter care insurance, and her first vet visit at one of our participating vets.     House trained, leash trained, affectionate, eager to please, even-tempered, and gentle! Athena was adopted out from us as a puppy after she was found dumped at the local sawmill. The young couple who adopted Athena were expecting a baby and planned to build a fence for Athena to play in their yard. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and they ended up not really having time for a puppy at all. Athena was returned to us this weekend. She is very underweight. We have wormed her and are providing her with lots of good quality food and long walks. Athena still isn't playing and romping like a 7 month old puppy should, but I think she is ... German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Kayla is a lovable and good-natured, 18-month-old, 30-pound, three-legged shepherd/husky-mix looking for a loving guardian. Kayla is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone she meets - people and other dogs. Kayla landed at Chicago Animal Care and Control after being hit by a car. Her left rear leg was so badly mangled it had to be amputated. Kayla is such a sweet, happy, wiggly girl, you notice her great personality, before you notice the missing limb.     Molly, 5.5 month old Shep/Mountain Curr mix. Molly is a smart, sweet little dog. She was found at 8 weeks old under a car with her sister. They were both bald from manage and sick. A wonderful foster home took them in and nursed them back to health. We do not know what happened during her first 8 weeks of life but she was terrified of people. She has come a long way in 3 months and now loves and craves human company. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Cinnamon is a two-year-old, 80-pound, sweet, smart, well-trained, loyal and protective female German Shepherd/Labrador-mix looking for a loving guardian. Cinnamon is okay with select other dogs, but would probably be best as the one and only dog in the home. She does however live peacefully with a 10-year-old cat. In the home Cinnamon is protective, outside the home, after her initial bark, she is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone she meets. She knows the commands sit, down, paw and takes treats extremely gently from your fingers. During the day, Cinnamon is a couch potato, happy to lounge the day away. However, she is also strong ... (Read More)and athletic and would rise to the occasion if you want a jogging buddy. Cinnamon was adopted from a shelter a year ago and has been a loving and loyal companion for her family. She loves the mom, dad and small children (2 and 5) that she lives with. She has been through extensive training, however the family can't break her of her protectiveness and her big bark scares away daily visitors to her home. So the family thinks she'll be happier with a family with fewer visitors and older children. Cinnamon is housebroken, crate-trained, good on leash and in the car. She will do best with a German Shepherd-lover who knows the breed and can work with her protectiveness. She is extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. To meet and possibly adopt Cinnamon, please contact Sara at sara.strasser@gmail.com or 312-718-0640. She is currently living in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Luna is a very beautiful, sweet, snuggly and active, nine-year-old, 62-pound, female White German Shepherd with three legs looking for a loving guardian. Luna was found running stray near Lincoln and Kimball in Chicago on May 28th. Despite the fact that she is micro-chipped, all attempts to find her original guardian have been unsuccessful. She was adopted from the Sangamon County Animal Control nine years ago. We don't know what happened to her leg, but running stray, she could easily have been hit by a car. With only three legs, Luna still runs fast! In the home, she's perfectly housebroken, non-destructive and a lovely couch potato ... (Read More)who enjoys resting on the couch. In the yard, she chases squirrels and bunnies. She has a big scary bark which is typical of a shepherd, but once you get to know her, it is all bluff and bravado. She loves treats and they are certainly the way to her heart; she takes them appreciatively and very gently from your fingers. She is strong and strong-willed and good with select dogs - typically submissive males. Luna is healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and fecal-tested.     Logan is 7 years old, but you wouldn't know it...he loves to go on walks/runs and play outside with people and other dogs. Rescue Me ID: 14-04-21-00625Wilson (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido's came to his rescue. Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in ... (Read More)a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend. Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training. Wilson is very healthy, de-wormed, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, and heartworm-tested. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Wilson, please fill in the online application at http://famousfidorescue.com/rescueforms/machform/view.php?id=26727 and follow up by contacting Gloria at fido@famousfidorescue.com or 773-907-0305. His adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescues of Famous Fido's. The rescue has dogs of all sizes and ages looking for loving guardians. They spend their days at 5430 N. Clark Street in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. Make an appointment to stop in and meet some of these lovable souls. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Destiny is a three-year-old, 60-pound, smart, affectionate and loyal, female black shepherd/terrier-mix looking for a loving guardian. Destiny was rescued after surviving a neglectful and abusive puppyhood. She is currently living in a foster home with two Great Danes who she loves to herd, play with and chase. After acclimating to her foster home she has proven mild-mannered and calm. However, she does carry with her the residual fears from her traumatized youth. She is incredibly loving and devoted to her foster dad, and seeks out his attention and approval. She is also very protective of him. Destiny is housebroken and kennel-trained. ... (Read More)Destiny is sometimes nervous in new situations and when meeting new people. However, she's a smart girl who can acclimate if given time and patience. Destiny is also nervous meeting new dogs and requires a gradual introduction; she does best with dogs her size and larger. She does not do well with small dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. Like most dogs, Destiny loves routine '| her morning belly rubs, playing with her favorite Great Dane friend and going for walks. She gets nervous with change. So, Destiny is looking for an experienced and patient dog-lover preferably with another large dog to give her the consistency and calm life in which to thrive. If you'd like to meet and possibly adopt Destiny, please fill out an adoption application at http://www.acaringplacehs.org/ and follow up by contacting the rescue group directly at acaringplace@comcast.net or 630-375-7976. Rescue Me ID: 13-11-25-00538Capone (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Capone is a handsome, affectionate, playful, active and energetic, two-year-old, 65-pound, brindle and white, male American Bulldog/German Shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Capone has such great ears that his nickname is Bat Dog. The poor guy got off to a very rough start to his life; he and his littermates almost succumbed to Parvo. The vet chose to treat the sick puppies with the antibiotic Baytril which helped Capone fight infection, but damaged his hips. So, by the age of 18 months, he had surgery on both hips. You'd hardly know it now because he's still a happy, playful guy who gets the zoomies '| runs, jumps and plays! ... (Read More)Capone is living in a foster home where he is perfecting his housebreaking. He's 90% there! He already knows the commands sit and down and walks nicely on leash. He's also great in the car. He is a very loyal and loving dog who is looking for an experienced dog-lover who can deal with a fearful and protective dog. Capone does best with someone who will work with him and give him structure. Capone can be a bit dog selective. So, he'd be great as the only dog in your world, or he could live with another dog, but it's got to be the right dog. He is currently sharing his foster home with two Rottweilers with whom he gets along. He has not been cat-tested. To meet and possibly adopt Capone, please contact the K94Keeps Rescue at info@k94keeps.org or 312-221-9285. Capone is now healthy, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. His adoption fee of $250 includes professional training sessions, and benefits the rescued dogs of K9 4 Keeps Rescue. (Less)
