Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sonny is a 3 or 4 year old yellow lab mix. Sonny was found as a stray in Illinois and once at the holding facility promptly gave birth to 8 puppies! The puppies probably saved her life as overcrowded shelters euthanize for space. We accepted Sonny and her puppies into our rescue program. Sonny was an excellent mom and soon became a favorite with our volunteers. Sonny was very protective of her puppies when other dogs were around. Since her puppies have been weaned and she has now been spayed she is more relaxed with other dogs. Sonny will do well in a family as a single dog OR as a second dog with a proper introduction. Sonny is not a fan ... (Read More)of cats or small dogs, but LOVES kids! She is available for our foster to adopt program.     Noah... is a very handsome, young purebred German Shepherd looking for a loving guardian. Born October 27, 2013, Noah knows the command sit and takes treats gently and appreciatively from your fingers. He loves walks and rides in the car. Noah is a typical German Shepherd with a huge bark which can be scare those not accustomed to big dogs. However, he means no harm. He has not been socialized with other animals so he'll need a lot of patience and training. He also, while he loves walks, is very strong and untrained on leash. Noah is healthy and trainable. He is looking for a German Shepherd-lover to take him in for love and ... (Read More)training. His original family moved to Florida and couldn't take him with, so they brought him to the local fire station. A fireman took him home, but his five-year-old daughter wouldn't stop crying because she was afraid of him ... so I took him in. Noah is vaccinated and will be neutered and micro-chipped this week. Rescue Me ID: 14-09-20-00309Lovable 'Homey' (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Vaccinations Current

Homey - Senior Golden Retriever Mix Seeks Quiet Home in Indianapolis Homey needs a home! This wonderful old Grandpa dog has been a loving companion to his owners for many years. They love him dearly, but, unfortunately for Homey, their home has been taken over by grandchildren. Homey is hard of hearing and his vision just isn't as good as it used to be. Little kids sneaking up on him, hitting him and pulling his tail make him very nervous, and he has snapped at them. It breaks their hearts to do so, but his owners realize the need to find a safe, quiet home for Homey, where he can have lots of undisturbed naps, enjoy the company of caring ... (Read More)adults, and spend some time smelling the daisies in the back yard. Despite his vision and hearing loss (par for the course when you're 14 years young!), Homey is a healthy, vibrant older dog with a lot of love to offer. He is a wonderful mix of Golden Retriever and German Shepherd. He is happy to spend time on his own, so would be a fine choice for a working or retired couple or single person. Senior dogs have a lot of love to offer. Please consider finding room in your heart and home for Homey. You can apply to adopt him here: http://petprosservices.com/adopt/ or call Mark toll-free at 888-9-PETS4U to find out more about this super sweet, gentle boy. Rehoming/adoption fee will be waived for the right applicant. Location: Indianapolis, In, 46259 Breed of Pet: Golden Retriever/German Shepard mix Sex of Pet: Male Age of Pet: 14 Spayed/Neutered?: Yes Health Problems: Yes Up To Date on Vaccinations: Yes Gets along with cats: Yes Gets along with dogs: No Accessories Included: Food, bedding Homey's Personality: Likes to be around older people and be a companion. Very quite and laid back. Likes to have head and ears rubbed. Homey's Current Home Environment: He has a large yard to run in with an electric containment wire. He has never been caged. Sleeps on a pillow either in the bedroom or living room. Homey's Current Family: We are a couple in our late 50's with two small grandchildren that visit us several times a week. Homey's Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities? Watching squirrels and birds, and other things going on in the yards around him.Playing ball. Cute Homey Story: All of the service men that come to work on appliances or other things usually end playing with him. He pretty much watches over what they are doing while they are here. Why is Homey Being Rehomed? The noise and quick movements of our 3 and 1 year old grandchildren seem to agitate him. They have scared him several times from behind by grabbing him or hitting him and he has reacted to them. Homey's Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be: I would like to see him go to a place where he can continue to be outside and enjoy the outdoors and be able to provide companionship to someone that treats him really well. Additional Comments: He has been a wonderful pet for the past 14 years and has provided many hours of enjoyment and fun. I hate to have to place him in another home, but I also do not want to have him get in a bad situation due to his agitation around the grandchildren. He will give someone several more years of enjoyment in a quite, less hectic environment. (Less)

Hannah is a very special, calm and sweet, seven-year-old, 70-pound, female German Shepherd looking for a loving guardian. Hannah is a very gentle, sensitive soul who lived on her own in the forest preserves of Southern Illinois all by herself for two years. She was finally caught but that was after people had shot her with BB guns (the bullets are still lodged in her chest) and she had been hit by a car which damaged her spine.     She's friendly to house guests and adults. Energetic and curious on walks. Likes nap. She gets walked early morning and late evening which she gets excited for. She loves laying next to the company of people and nudges for petting. She was living in a house with a backyard, but recently moved to a condo apartment in downtown Chicago. She was with a family who had recently had a child. Prior to this, she snapped at one of the family's younger child when he pulled her tail. She recently moved into this condo because the family could not take her anymore due to the new baby and her experience with the younger child. However, living in a ... She also gets too excited and tense around the cat as if it is prey. The cat started developing anxiety and this is causing her to start urinating in places outside of her litter. Currently, we have to separate the two when we're at work ( ~9 hours a day ) but the situation is dangerous for both animals. Follows basic commands, but dif%BD%BD%81cult to distract. Nervous around kids. Aggressive towards cats and small animals. Aggressive to dogs in close quarters. (Less)

Eddie is a handsome boy who was left behind with 4 other dogs when his owners moved away. One of which was thought to be his mother was found shot and dead in the house, another dog had been shot outside and was laying there dead. Eddie kept returning to lay next to the dead dog in the house and was very frightened. The neighbor was threatening to shoot the 3 remaining dogs if they were not gone.     House trained, leash trained, affectionate, eager to please, even-tempered, and gentle! Athena was adopted out from us as a puppy after she was found dumped at the local sawmill. The young couple who adopted Athena were expecting a baby and planned to build a fence for Athena to play in their yard. Unfortunately, this didn't happen and they ended up not really having time for a puppy at all. Athena was returned to us this weekend. She is very underweight. We have wormed her and are providing her with lots of good quality food and long walks. Athena still isn't playing and romping like a 7 month old puppy should, but I think she is ... I think her strength will come back with lots of food and a chance to romp and play. (Less)

Molly was picked up as a stray and unclaimed. She is terrified in the shelter and very shy, but she warms up quickly and is so happy to be OUT of the shelter, if only for a moment. We think she was an outside and kennel only dog, by the way she acts. We also think she is spayed/has a spay scar, so unless we decide differently, her adoption fee will only be $50. Molly is heartworm negative and waiting for someone to rescue her. Could that someone be you?

A wonderful foster home took them in and nursed them back to health. We do not know what happened during her first 8 weeks of life but she was terrified of people. She has come a long way in 3 months and now loves and craves human company. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Cinnamon is a two-year-old, 80-pound, sweet, smart, well-trained, loyal and protective female German Shepherd/Labrador-mix looking for a loving guardian. Cinnamon is okay with select other dogs, but would probably be best as the one and only dog in the home. She does however live peacefully with a 10-year-old cat. In the home Cinnamon is protective, outside the home, after her initial bark, she is full of kisses and tail wags for everyone she meets. She knows the commands sit, down, paw and takes treats extremely gently from your fingers. During the day, Cinnamon is a couch potato, happy to lounge the day away. However, she is also strong ... (Read More)and athletic and would rise to the occasion if you want a jogging buddy. Cinnamon was adopted from a shelter a year ago and has been a loving and loyal companion for her family. She loves the mom, dad and small children (2 and 5) that she lives with. She has been through extensive training, however the family can't break her of her protectiveness and her big bark scares away daily visitors to her home. So the family thinks she'll be happier with a family with fewer visitors and older children. Cinnamon is housebroken, crate-trained, good on leash and in the car. She will do best with a German Shepherd-lover who knows the breed and can work with her protectiveness. She is extremely healthy, spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative.     Luna is a very beautiful, sweet, snuggly and active, nine-year-old, 62-pound, female White German Shepherd with three legs looking for a loving guardian. Luna was found running stray near Lincoln and Kimball in Chicago on May 28th. Despite the fact that she is micro-chipped, all attempts to find her original guardian have been unsuccessful. She was adopted from the Sangamon County Animal Control nine years ago. We don't know what happened to her leg, but running stray, she could easily have been hit by a car. With only three legs, Luna still runs fast! In the home, she's perfectly housebroken, non-destructive and a lovely couch potato who ... (Read More)enjoys resting on the couch. In the yard, she chases squirrels and bunnies, so she's looking for a home without cats, bunnies or even other dogs. Typical of a shepherd, Luna has a big scary bark, but once you get to know her, it is all bluff and bravado. She loves treats and they are certainly the way to her heart; she takes them appreciatively and very gently from your fingers. She is strong and strong-willed; so she's looking for an experienced shepherd-lover to take her under their wing.     Capone is a handsome, affectionate, playful, active and energetic, two-year-old, 65-pound, brindle and white, male American Bulldog/German Shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian.
