German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered

Azzy is fairly energetic and smart. He loves trips to the dog park (large ones). He is great with kids and people. He does have a problem with other dogs when he is on leash or if they are near his home. He could use a home with a fenced yard and lots of space. He would be great for a single man who has time for continuous training.

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-24-00395Friday (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Introducing our big goofball Friday! She is guessed to be a Lab/Shepherd mix, 2-3 years old. She loves to play, play, and play! Running around the backyard with her foster siblings and chasing balls are 2 of her favorite things. Even though she has energy, she is submissive with other dogs. Being food motivated, she has been easy to train and wants to please. In a short period of time, she has learned to walk well on a leash, sits on command, working on stay, and almost housebroken. Even though she is crate trained, she likes to sleep with her people at night. She loves her chew toys, bones and children. Since she doesn't realize her ... (Read More)size, thinking she is smaller than she is, Friday would do better with older children. She could could acciddently knock a smaller child over. If you would like to meet this fun loving girl or for more information, please go to alwaysroom4morepaws.com and fill out an application. (Less)

In early March, Pal's Place rescued a gorgeous Yellow Lab mix that had been surrendered to an over burdened pound in Kentucky when her family moved across country and could not bring Luna along! We took her into our program for placement and when taken to our vet for her spay, it was discovered that Luna was pregnant. Luckily we had a foster home experienced with nursing moms for Luna to go to and on Easter Sunday, 3/27/16, she delivered a litter of beautiful pups. There are four females and five males. Most of the pups are yellow or light tan with some white markings. One little female is black with tan points. We don't know who the daddy ... (Read More)was, but it appears he may have been a Shepherd or Shepherd mix. Mom is a larger dog, around 70 pounds and the pups are large for their age, so we are expecting them to be in the 65-85 pound range when fully grown. Luna is a very sweet, gentle and good natured dog and has been a wonderful mom to her pups. The pups are now 6 weeks old and are very friendly, curious little pups. They are getting lots of socialization and positive human interactions and should make wonderful family companions! These adorable little love bugs will be ready to go to their forever families the weekend of May 27. They will be spayed/neutered and have had two series of puppy vaccines, several rounds of dewormer and microchipped before being placed. If interested in submitting an adoption application for one of these little cuties, please email palsplace1@hotmail.com. 'ۢ The adoption donation for each pup is $375. This donation helps to cover their spays/neuters, initial vaccines, initial worming and microchip. Pal's Place relies solely on donations to care for the pets in our care. Your donation also helps save other animals like this little family from euthanasia. 'ۢ Please email Palsplace1@hotmail.com for an adoption application and please put the name of the dog in the subject line. Please be sure to check your spam/junk folder; sometimes the applications end up in there! 'ۢ All of our dogs are in foster homes are can be seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY, after an approved application has been received. To receive more info please email palsplace1@hotmail.com. Email is the preferred method of contact and is the quickest way to receive a response. We cannot place holds on our dogs. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-23-00126Lilly & Romeo (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Romeo and Lilly are a bonded pair looking for their retirement home where they can live life to the fullest and offer their love to a deserving family. These two have been through thick and thin and will need to be adopted together. Both Romeo and Lilly are super sweet and affectionate though they can be a bit stubborn at their ages! :) Most likely from years without any true structure, though they know the basic commands. They could both use work on the leash, though a fenced in yard would be ideal for them. They don't play with toys much but are food motivated so would be relatively easy to continue training! Romeo (short coat) is a ... (Read More)happy and handsome 9 year old German Shepherd. He weighs 82lbs and does have some stiffness in his hips/elbows due to his age. He is currently on pain meds, glucosamine supplement, and fish oil to help with his pain, and he is doing quite well on them. Since being on these, he seems to be more animated and happy! Romeo did have a benign tumor removed while in our care. It is possible that it could have been a predecessor to cancer so any lumps found in the future should be assessed. Romeo is good with females but doesn't seem to get along with other males very well, especially intact males. Lilly (long, dark coat) is a jolly and beautiful 7 year old German Shepherd. She weighs 75lbs and tends to steal her brother's food so strict feeding times would be helpful for this girl. Lilly is a big ol' softy. She is good with other dogs but gets so excited that sometimes she gets in other dog's personal space and may end up getting corrected by other dogs. Both Romeo and Lilly are crate trained and do well in the house. They both take baths very nicely and ride well in the car together - though Lilly hogs up all the space! Romeo and Lilly both do well around cats. Romeo and Lilly would love an older family as young children seem to make them a bit nervous. They would be happy being the only dogs, but with the right dogs they can share. They are looking for their forever home that will love and spoil them. Please visit www.gsdri.org to fill out an application, learn more about the adoption process and fees, and view other dogs available through the German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa. All GSDRI's dogs are adopted as indoor house pets. No permanent outside runs or tie outs are allowed. A fence is strongly encouraged. Every dog is spayed/neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and heartworm checked. (Less)

Buddy is a very sweet, energetic and fun, three-year-old, 57-pound, male, tri-color hound/shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Buddy is happiest when he has the opportunity to exercise daily. He's not an apartment dog; he'd prefer a home with a yard where he can run and play. Buddy enjoys the enjoys the company of other dogs, but he has a strong prey drive so he is not good with cats or other small animals; he's quite the hunter. Once Buddy has had enough exercise, he's a really great dog. He's gentle, loving and calm in the home. He knows a lot of commands and is very loving to people.     Rocky, Right in photo, was rescued with his mother, on the left in the picture, and 3 siblings. Mom appears to be Shepherd collie. there was a purebred looking male shepherd on the property we were told was the father, but he doesn't look like he has a purebred shepherd father. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Wilson is a handsome, tall, loyal, and very strong, eight-year-old, 70-pound, male, shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Wilson was living with an elderly woman who passed away in her home. Sadly, he was found days later in the home with her dead body. He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where he was almost euthanized. Lucky for him, Famous Fido's came to his rescue. Once you know Wilson, he is such a loving and smart dog. He is full of tail wags and kisses for those he adores. He is extremely protective of his people and afraid of those that he does not know, so you can just imagine how petrified he was in a cage in ... (Read More)a crowded shelter. The woman Wilson lived with was a recluse and a hoarder, so she had no visitors and Wilson had no exposure to anyone but his best friend. Wilson would do best with an experienced and patient dog-lover willing to continue his training.
