Animal ID: 17-08-23-00234Aura (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Aura is a sweet girl who loves to play tug and ball. She is incredibly smart and learns new commands and tricks immediately. She'll do just about anything for a treat, but WILL do anything for cuddles and extra love. She loves to nuzzle in your lap or cuddle when you sleep. She is curious, playful, energetic, healthy, and one of the most affectionate dogs I've ever had. She loves to play with other dogs and has lived with my boy Duke, boxer/mastiff. Not much time around small kids, but she loves to give kisses to everyone. She jumps a bit, but just because she wants to give you a kiss. She loves going on runs and loves being outside to watch ... (Read More)birds. Named her Aura for the beautiful feeling you get being around her excited spirit, and her gift of 'awe' and curiosity of the world. She needs a home who will encourage those things in her. My fiance and I took in Aura, Pit/Shephard mix, back in November. She was left in her crate for three to four days with no food or water because her owner broke parole and ran. A friend living in the house came back from Thanksgiving break to find her starving and scared. We took her in to be a friend to our Duke, boxer/mastiff. They've become good friends and she is a big part of our family. Unfortunately, my fiance and I have separated in the last month and I am unable to give Aura the best attention. I've tried taking her to doggy daycare and boarding and each time she comes back aggressive and anxious, afraid I'll never come back like my fiance didn't come back.. Last week, she attacked the fence between my yard and my neighbors who have two large breed dogs. When I went to pull her back she whipped around and bit me. This is incredibly out of character for her and she immediately felt terrible, but it made me realize that maybe I'm not doing something right. But I don't know what to do. She is increasingly more anxious and I do not know enough about training to help her the way she needs. I'm hoping someone can help me find a home for her that will take care of her and give her the attention she needs that I simply can not provide as I am the only one at home with two dogs and a full time job. It breaks my heart to know I'm not the best for her. She's the best girl and has a lot of love to give. I only want the best for her. Please no kill shelters respond, I won't even call you back. She's a good dog and deserves the best. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-08-21-00538Ava (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected,
 Fearful/Anxious

Looking for a kind, patient, and loving home for Ava. She needs a home where she can get the medical, physical, and emotional stability she desperately needs. She is five years old and in the past two years she has gone from an inside adored pet to an outside dog with very little love, and practically no attention. She has only known one owner, but that owner is no longer able to provide her with the kind of home she deserves and the medical attention she needs. Medically Ava is in good health but is susceptible to hot spots which can be treated over the counter, and since she has been thrown outside is having Anal Gland Infection problems ... (Read More)which may be due to her diet and other factors and needs to be Vet treated. Ava has always had an outgoing nature and a leader of the pack attitude. She has a natural dominance towards other animals and likes to reign as Queen, or at least she used to. She doesn't really like cats, but will leave them alone when someone is close by running interference, but will chase them down once you leave. She is also great at sniffing. She will catch a scent and not give up until she finds the source of that scent. She is smart, still full of energy, and a great watch dog even though she has not been formally trained or been given the opportunity to learn. She is used to small children, but prefers the company of older children and adults. She is so starved for attention that she wants to climb in your lap and be held. She is picky about the dog food she receives and will need to be reintroduced slowly since she is used to eating meat and table scrapes. As a treat she loves smoked, meaty neck bones from the meat department. She has never known a chain or a pen. She is used to running free inside a home and running free in a fenced yard. She will use a leash but if you are not firm she will dominate the walk. She will try to attack water hoses, weed eaters, lawn mowers, hair dryers, and anything motorized you are trying to use. I guess she feels they are a threat. After a few attempts she will usually give up...except for the water hose. As long as you are spraying she is on it. She has never hurt or bitten anyone, but she really hates the mailman. Her bark and demeanor can be scary toward strangers, but after a few minutes when she feels there is no threat she will calm down and go for the attention, unless she has taken an instant dislike to that person. She is CKC registered and has not been fixed. She has only been bred once, and in no way do we want to see her go to a home for someone to lock her in a pen and use her for breeding purposes. That is not the kind of forever home we are seeking, or she needs. Her one owner is a woman who was not strong enough to control her and in turn spoiled her badly. Due to unseen misfortunes she has left Ava in the care of her son who I know has abused her on many occasions. Her owner visits her daily but she realizes it's not enough anymore and has agreed to take this step. Ava loves that woman and would defend her with her life, and this move will be heartbreaking for both of them, but also the best for Ava. Ava needs a firm hand, a lot of patience, and all the love you can give her, and she will be loyal to the end. We are looking for someone who has the time, the kindness, the patience, and the heart to truly be a part of her life. We need someone who will welcome Ava into their home and is willing to be her friend, and her buddy. She needs love and better care, and we hope and pray we can find the right individual, or family who can provide a forever home for her. (Less)

We'd like to introduce Miss Reese! She is about 5 years old and is a gentle, loving lady. If you like snuggling and affection from furry friends, Reese is your girl. She prefers to be close to you and will sleep right next to you if allowed! Reese does a good job at being mostly house-trained. She also knows how to sit and come. She's shown to be a pretty decent leash-walker, too! Reese loves to play with tennis balls or squeaky toys. She can be playful at times but then is content to be lazy and couch-potato like! Reese's ears seem to have a possible hematoma, we are monitoring them closely! Reese has never been around small children, so ... (Read More)we are continuing to learn. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

Meet Leo. This affectionate, snuggley boy is a 3-year-old shepherd mix. He probably has a few breeds in his mix, but we just can't tease them all out. His unique look with a somewhat longer body and a naturally stubby tail make him incredibly cute--oh gosh, how could we almost forget to mention those ears! He weighs about 45 pounds and is a perfect medium size. Leo can be a little shy at first, but once he knows he's safe, he is very loving and very much a Velcro dog. Leo has been raised with his own family including his girlfriend (now in a home) and their two pups (both up for adoption.) He craves other dog attention and must be placed ... (Read More)in a home with another friendly dog, preferably one who wouldn't mind his cuddles. If someone were interested in two dogs, Leo and his son Tux do great together. Leo has also been around cats. He doesn't pay much attention to them overall. We think Leo would do fine with gentle children. He has met kids and been fine, but he has never lived with them. Leo is neutered, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is also solidly housebroken. Leo has never been crated, but does well being confined to a room of the house. If you would like to meet Leo please complete an adoption application on our website. We will only consider homes for Leo that have another canine. His adoption fee is $175.     Chief comes to us by way of Louisville, KY where he spent his life chasing cars when free, the rest of the time he was tied to a chain, he is a bit anxious, but is on medication to help with his doggy PTSD (yes, the vet says he's been through something horribly traumatic in his short life). He is loving and affectionate, but has some quirks. He chases his tail till YOU are dizzy and runs the fence line at our fosters, as if chasing cars still.
