Animal ID: 33343281Duke (male)
Duke was relegated to a pen in the backyard most of his life so he's having to learn manners, walking on a leash, and potty training. He was almost feral when WAAL took him in. Duke is a little love bug when he wants to be. He is still quite a puppy and lives to play with other dogs. He would love a partner in crime to play with all day. Playing hours on end would be his dream come true. Duke is quite vocal when he wants to play or wants his human's attention. Treats, treats, treats are his best friend! He may always have some degree of skittishness but his foster is putting in lots of time to work as much of it out as possible; socialization is a priority. We're unsure on cats, but our feeling is he would most likely want to chase. Duke is kennel training. He does well with strangers who are female, but is skittish of men until he warms up. Duke is a work in progress. If you'd have the patience to continue working with him, please complete an application to schedule a meeting. Duke is an escape artist and can climb, so he absolutely requires at least a 6 foot fence, no chainlink. Video: : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8V6swHbS5-Q (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-10-24-00512Maddie (female)
Maddie is a stunning 10 mo. old Boxer/German shepherd mix. She was terrified in the shelter and has been in her foster home for a while now. She is shy around new people, but if given a chance to warm up she is very loving. She needs to have another dog to help with her fearful nature and anxiety as they make her feel more comfortable. She has learned to heal while on walks, and has learned to sit for treats. She is very smart and catches on quick. Maddie loves chew toys, and has no problem sharing them. Maddie gets along with cats, dogs, and children. Maddie is ready for her furever home that is willing to shower her with love and give her the patience she needs to adjust. She is spayed, current on all vaccinations, heart worm negative, fecal/wormed and microchipped. Her fee is $250. To inquire or to apply online visit our website at www.handsofhoperescue.com. No phone calls please. (Less)

zoe is in need of more attention than we are able to give her. she is sweet . we got her when she was about 1 1/2 yrs old and I am not sure if she had been somewhat abused as she fears most men . she is good with my husband but has been leery when we have male people over . I am not trying to be mean to her by finding a home but rather the opposite .

Rescue Me ID: 16-10-01-00348Ruby (female)
Ruby is an energetic, loving, playful, and incredibly sweet blue heeler mix. She is very smart but a little stubborn and is NOT crate trained-- she is what we like to call a free spirit. She is an awesome dog and would love to live on a farm or with someone who is home a lot. She loves children, other dogs, and cats but does have a tendency to "herd," as is her nature. There is no doubt she is one of the most beautiful and extraordinary dogs we've had in our rescue and she is ready to find her family.

Animal ID: 16-0211Marilyn *Full Sponsor* (female)
Marilyn is a German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix. Her estimated date of birth is 3/21/15 and she is approximately 67 pounds. A home without any other dogs would be best for this gal. She loves to get belly rubs and be scratched behind the ears. She knows that sometimes when people talk their mouths can make the shape of a trapezoid, and she is okay with that! #unconditonallove Adoption fee has been FULLY covered by the All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration Grant through the Petfinder Foundation. #AllStarDogRescue All PPAS puppies and dogs are up to date on all of their vaccines (including rabies if age appropriate), and will be micro chipped and registered in the adopter's name at the time of adoption. Adopters get a free consultation at an area vet partner within 14 days of adoption. Any dog that is six months of age or older will be tested for Heartworms and if found negative, will be kept on Heartworm prevention during their shelter stay, after the adoption it is up to the adopter to continue the highly recommended Heartworm preventative treatment. Also all PPAS shelter dogs are treated with a monthly topical flea/tick preventative and we ask that adopters continue that treatment as well. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at firstname.lastname@example.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. Prairie Paws Animal Shelter 3173 HWY K68 Ottawa, KS 66067 785-242-2967 prairiepaws.org Hours: Mon / Wed / Thurs - 11am-6pm Saturday 11am -4pm Closed: Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday Closed On The Following Holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day Here's the scoop on the adoption process: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non refundable. We encourage folks that are interested in a certain animal to put down a hold fee (a credit card number may be given over the phone) to ensure the animal they are interested is available for their meet and greet. You may put down a 1 day hold for $20.00 without an approved application but anything longer than that we will need an approved application on file. Putting the animal on hold makes it so others can not have a meet and greet with the said animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds can not be put down via email. You must also submit an adoption application for the dog for any hold over 1 day. In person meet and greet - potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We can not do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Because of financial constraints our days and hours vary. Business hours should be listed on website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end this post. If you have other animals we encourage you to bring to the meet and greet. We have animal runs outside the facility where the meet and greet can take place. The adoption application must be filled out and approved. Adoption applications are available on our website or at the meet and greet. http://prairiepaws.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Dog-Adoption-Form.pdf Common sticky points for folks are: if they rent, we have to call the landlord to make sure it is okay for you have a pet. If you have other pets, we call your vet to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. We can not approve the application until they are. It's great if you want to include current documentation on up to date vaccinations with your application. Speeds the process along. Once approval has been given an adoption fee must be paid in full - no partial payments. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid. Taking your animal home - all cats and dogs must be sterilized (spayed/neutered) before going to their new homes, it is a state requirement. In most cases animals will have already been sterilized before hitting the adoption floor and you will be available to take your new companion home with you the day of adoption with an approved application. About 2 years old. This young dog is doing great with other dogs. He just attended a pet walk with lots of other dogs, new people of all ages and plenty of commotion and he was wonderful! Zeus is currently enjoying time in a home environment with a big dog and a little dog and a couple of nice people. When he is ready for a break from the family and other dogs, he goes to his 'spot' and relaxes. We have been really impressed with this sweet dog. He is getting TLC and lessons in foster care to help him improve his manners/basic obedience. Please call/email to meet Zeus as he is not currently residing at the facility. Call 913-684-4939/1669 or email email@example.com. Featured as the Pet of the Week in the Sept. 1, 2016, issue of the Fort Leavenworth Lamp. |Rescue Me ID: 16-08-31-00568Oakley (female)|
Oakley is a sweetheart. She has been my baby for 5-6 years now. I've had her since she was a puppy, but with as much anxiety as I have, it's making her throw up all the time. She gains weight & then loses it again a lot. Right now, she's so anxious, she's chewing & biting all her fur off. We've treated her for fleas, but the treatments aren't helping & she brings them in on her fur when she goes out to potty. We've treated our yard & it's not helping either. She is a smart girl & would be a great companion for someone that only wants one dog. She's great with other dogs, she is more of a one dog owner type of dog.

Zorro is a happy dog that loves to run and play. He has been in puppy training as well as social classes and has done well. He knows sit, uhuh, gentle, leave it and several other commands. He has perimeter training and stay in his bounds well. He is protective of those he loves. He loves water. He has an issue with food guarding and as we hav extremely small children this presents a potential danger to them. He is a good boy and we love him but feel that it would be better to find another home for him.

PIease Read Before Adopting a German Shepherd in Kansas
German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Kansas if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
