German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Incontinent

[Read About Natural Incontinence Care] Jill is a very good puppy. She has issues where she cannot hold her bladder. We have already spent a good amount on antibiotics and special food and nothing is helping. The tests the vet wants to run we cannot afford. Again Jill is such a great puppy and it is killing us to have to get rid of her but we just cannot afford for her care.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Troy has the most adorable personality and will be your next favorite four-legged family member! Being a Shepherd mix, this guy is intelligent and ready-to-please. He started his life out living with some sorority girls. Unfortunately the girls did not stimulate him with exercise or play and he grew bored and decided to chew up one of their fancy purses for attention, so he ended up needing a new home to call his own. This time around through we are sure his hero will walk him, give him lots of tummy rubs, give him tons of love and treats be everything this awesome dog deserves in a companion. Estimated DOB is 04/30/2013. Approx. weight is ... (Read More)38 lbs. Bitsey one of our awesome volunteers had the following to say about Troy: Troy is full of energy. He wants to go go go. Waunita showed me how smart he is: he knows sit, down and shake. Loves to work for treats. All PPAS puppies and dogs are up to date on all of their vaccines (including rabies if age prohibiting), and will be micro chipped and registered in the adopter's name at the time of adoption. Adopters get a free consultation at Cottonwood Animal Hospital within 14 days of adoption. Any dog that is six months of age or older will be tested for Heartworms and if found negative, will be kept on Heartworm prevention during their shelter stay, after the adoption it is up to the adopter to continue the highly recommended Heartworm preventative treatment. Also all PPAS shelter dogs are treated with a monthly topical flea/tick preventative and we ask that adopters continue that treatment as well. Here's the scoop on the adoption process: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non refundable. We encourage folks that are interested in a certain animal to put down a hold fee (a credit card number may be given over the phone) to ensure the animal they are interested is available for their meet and greet. You may put down a 1 day hold for $20.00 without an approved application but anything longer than that we will need an approved application on file. Putting the animal on hold makes it so others can not have a meet and greet with the said animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds can not be put down via email. You must also submit an adoption application for the dog for any hold over 1 day. Please see below for our public hours. In person meet and greet - potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We can not do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Because of financial constraints our days and hours vary. Business hours should be listed on website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end this post. If you have other animals we encourage you to bring to the meet and greet. We have animal runs outside the facility where meet and greet can take place. The adoption application must be filled out and approved. Adoption applications are available on our website or at the meet and greet. http://prairiepaws.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Dog-Adoption-Form.pdf Common sticky points for folks are: if they rent, we have to call the landlord to make sure it is okay for you have a pet. If you have other pets, we call your vet to make sure their vaccinations are up to date. We can not approve the application until they are. It's great if you want to include current documentation on up to date vaccinations with your application. Speeds the process along. Once approval has been given an adoption fee must be paid in full - no partial payments. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid. Taking your animal home - most of our animals will need to be spayed or neutered before we can allow them to be taken home (state requirement) so taking your new companion home on the day of the meet and greet is not usually an option. Cottonwood Animal Hospital does the sterilizations for us on Thursdays and Mondays. Date the procedure can be done depends on case load. Your animal must be picked up on the day of their surgery between 4:30pm and 6pm. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at info@prairiepaws.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi I'm Taco! I'm a beautiful female German Shepherd mix, and can I just say that I love life? Even though I'm in a shelter right now, I live everyday to the fullest. I am athletic and energetic, ready to take on the world. It's hard for me to be cooped up in my kennel when I have so much living I need to do, so that's why I'm jumping up and down with excitement when you walk by my kennel. I just love people, and I love going on walks and being outside. I have been working really hard on walking on the leash without pulling, and I've made some progress. It's just that I have so much energy and so much exploring to do, I'm still learning how ... (Read More)to walk next to you on the leash. I'm a very hard worker, so I will get there, I promise. I'm really smart and know how to sit, and I respond well to treats and praise! I am loving and affectionate, and I just need the right person who will spend time continuing to train me and will make sure I get the exercise I need. I hope you are that person! Come see me at Prairie Paws, where I will be jumping up and down with excitement to see you! This German Shepherd energetic mix has an estimated DOB of 10/11/13 and is spayed. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Shelby is a good natured senior dog. We rescued Shelby at the age of 2 year's old and at that time didn't know our future would entail 4 children. Shelby loves attention and walks and we just can't give her the life she needs Since our 4th child. Shelby has been very loved and it was a very hard decision to make but if your looking for a companion she would be great. Shelby doesn't care for little dogs and with age she has lost her patience a time or two with my children.
