Rescue Me ID: 14-12-18-00263Fenny (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Fenny is 7 months old and about 70 pounds. She is full of energy and does have some issues where she thinks she is in charge. Likes to use her teeth a lot, does not draw blood. Does not like crate during the day but sleeps in a crate with no issue. I am moving from a work from home situation to an office situation and she would have to spend way too much time in a crate every day. Not fair to her and I have no one to watch her as we all work. Loves to socialize with other dogs. Tends to jump a lot with other people and does not know her own strength, hence why I said not good with kids, she knocks them down thinking it is play. She needs a ... (Read More)lot of room to run. She loves going for walks. She has a puppy brain with an adult body, i.e., can be tough to control. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-18-00211Bosch (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

This is Bosch! He will be 3 years old on April 18, 2015. Bosch weighs 80 pounds. He is very energetic and always wants to play so he needs a lot of space to be free. We have a large backyard where he gets to play and exercise. (He's very fit and strong and handsome!) He's vocal when he wants love and attention. He gets along with other dogs, but can get a little aggressive due to him being not neutered. We wanted to wait until after he finished growing to get him neutered. He's very very VERY smart. He knows all the basic commands sit, stay, jump, wait, fetch, paw, give, and even how to open a door. He can learn a lot more if you have time ... (Read More)to teach him. Unfortunately, my son who mainly takes care of him is going to college and we don't know anyone who will be able to care for him like we do and have the space for him to be happy so we are looking for a special family or person who will. Please contact us if you have any questions. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-12-00215Juniper (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Juniper is a 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd female. She is a very intelligent and energetic female. Juniper is house trained, and knows all basic commands: come, sit, down, down stay, and prolonged down stay. She immediately goes to her place when told. She can get very exited when someone she loves comes home and is very talkative. Juniper is easy to train. She is very athletic and would make an excellent dog for agility. She has a herding instinct and does best with a job. She also has a strong ball drive. She has a bit of separation anxiety but is being crate trained right now. She weighs about 65 pounds and probably will still fill out ... (Read More)a little bit. She has gone through 2 heat cycles, as it is better for a dog's physical development, but will be spayed very soon. She does well in the car. Gets along with most dogs, but can get a bit irritated. We live on a farm with horses and Juniper has a strong drive to herd the horses. This is not safe and the reason we are looking for another home for her. The ideal owner must be a dedicated dog person, who has the time to work and play with her, and possibly engage her in agility work. She has not done it yet, but would have a lot of fun and talent for it. She barks for a quick warning, but is not over protective. Please contact me if you can give the ideal home to this pretty girl. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-08-00814CLOVIS (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

CLOVIS is currently being fostered in Connecticut. CLOVIS had been adopted and traveled to the East Coast, but sadly the families small boy had a severe asthma attack and so the family are unable to keep him, so he is once again looking for his perfect forever home. The family had said he was a great boy and a complete gentleman and are upset at having to give him up! Update from CLOVIS temporary foster: Clovis is very, very energetic. Although lovable he is completely untrained and has no house manners. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLOVIS was saved ... (Read More)from San Antonio Animal Care services the day before he was due to be killed. This boy is just ALL Loving. I believe he was previously an outside dog as he does need work on his manners, but he is learning quickly. CLOVIS does bark a lot when I leave, but again that I believe is because he was an outside dog before with no love or attention. He is a great boy, he is a nice 50 pound size, he gets on well with other dogs although does try to dominate initially, but soon backs down if he is challenged, he also only just been neutered which could be the reason for this behavior and I'm sure will calm down in a few weeks/months. CLOVIS will need some training, but his potential of being a fun, loving, energetic affectionate boy is huge. I mean just look at that smile. CLOVIS is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German shepherd Dog Rescue. Our application process and form can be found on our website. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-07-00622STARLA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

STARLA was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services literally an hour before they was going to kill her. They had labelled her as having distemper due to her walking funny and 'fly biting'. When I got there to pick her up it was clear to me that she had been injured in her hips or back legs and would need x-rays and surgery. I researched the fly-biting and this could be due to trauma, a bad habit (like dogs chasing their tails) or a mild form of epilepsy. STARLA was taken to the vets and x-rays showed she had both of her hips were dislocated and her pelvis was broken. She had surgery which entailed her hips being 'toggled' back into the ... (Read More)sockets to hopefully stop them keep falling out and had plates on her pelvis. STARLA is an amazing girl and was walking around within days. It has been several months since she had the surgery and she has been fantastic, no problems at all; she gets around as if nothing had happened. STARLA is however, extremely thin, this is due to her being so starved and her stomach having shrunk so much, it will take a long time for her to gain the weight and get to how she should be. Nonetheless she eats well, she is on joint supplements and immune support supplements, she gets on great with all the dogs and doesn't even mind small puppies climbing all over her. STARLA is extremely affectionate she will follow me around and when I am sat down she has to be lying as close as physically possible and if she is able she will either lean, or have some part of her body touching my foot/leg. She can get vocal if she is in the way and other dogs are trying to get past her, but that just adds to her personality. STARLA still does the 'fly-biting' and it really is unknown what it truly is and what caused it. We have tried her on anti-seizure medications and they didn't do anything to help this, other than make her very docile from the drugs. So, she has not had any medications and although the fly biting can be regular or sparse it doesn't seem to worry her at all. She loves to cuddle on the bed and just be wherever I am. She will do well with a family that wants a velco-dog, one that has got so much love to give and will always be by your side. All she wants in return is love and caring, she enjoys car rides and is very friendly with people and children. She has not been round cats since we don't have them at the rescue, however, I am not sure if she would care about them. If she did I don't think it would be difficult thing to get her out of, but that would depend on the family and how much time they had to put into working with her. STARLA loves to go on walks and of course until she has gained her full weight the distance should be gradual and at her own pace. STARLA is 2 years old, spayed, rabies, up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested Negative and micro-chipped. STARLA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog rescue. We are located in Devine, south of San Antonio, in the high kill state of Texas. Our adoption fee is $170. Rescue Me ID: 14-12-07-00405BECKY (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This stunning young beauty is BECKY. She was adopted from a high kill shelter in Texas to what she thought would be her forever home. Sadly, they did not give her a chance and she was returned to once again be on death row. We here at Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue, saved her and brought her into our pack. Becky is extremely active, LOVES her toys, LOVES to run and play chase. Just like young children, she can get vocal when she plays and gets excited. Becky is responsive to commands. Although we have not done any formal training with her, she will be very easy to train. Becky would suit an active family who have the ... (Read More)time and willingness to give her the mental and physical exercise that she needs to keep her busy and out of mischief. Becky is great with kids, as long as they respect her boundaries and understand that dogs too need time to be left alone. We do not have cats in rescue so we cannot say how she is with cats. However, she is still relatively young and could be taught to leave them alone, if she did have that 'interest'. Becky has an estimated birth date around February 2nd,2013. She is spayed, rabies, current on her vaccines, tested NEGATIVE for heart-worm disease, de-wormed and micro-chipped Becky is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog rescue. Rescue Me ID: 14-11-30-00286DEMI (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

DEMI was saved from Fort Worth Animal Care Services. She is still very nervous but when you are close to her she loosens up and becomes a happy love bug. DEMI is a little unsure about being round the other dogs, she is not aggressive with them, and is getting better within the pack each day. We do not think that she has had any socialization with dogs or much interaction with humans. Therefore we are working on building her trust and confidence. working on. We do not think it will take this precious girl long to come out of her shell and realize that the world can be a fun place, with the right people. DEMI is young, with an estimated ... (Read More)birth date of November, 24th 2013. She is spayed, up to date on her vacs, tested Heart-worm NEGATIVE, de-wormed and micro-chipped. DEMI is around 42 pounds and needs to gain a good amount of weight. Her estimated average weight when fully grown 'could' be around 65 pounds of love and snuggles. DEMI will need a family, that at first, will let her trust and gain confidence in her own time. She will need lots of physical and mental exercise to keep her mind stimulated. She will benefit from basic, advanced and any other kind of training or sports that German Shepherd Dogs love and excel in. We are looking for that special family on the East coast. We will transport DEMI home via Rescue Road Trips. This is included in her adoption donation of $535. Please contact us straight away for an adoption application for DEMI. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-23-00467OWEN (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

OWEN is a handsome, sweet, gentle White German Shepherd Dog. He was found as a stray in the Poteet area of Texas. Taken to the vets and posted on lost and found sites, no microchip, no owners. So OWEN came to GaDaH. Owen was walking funny and had ear problems so I took him to the vets - he had bad yeast ear infection, which has been treated and cleared up. He also walked funny, which we thought was a problem with his paws but under examination it was deemed more of a neurological problem called 'over-stepping' which is where he cannot always associate how far the ground is away and so he over exaggerates his walk. This causes him ... (Read More)absolutely NO problem at all. OWEN runs and plays as well as all the other dogs, he just looks a little goofy in doing so. OWEN absolutely LOVES the water, he is so much fun to watch as his movements are over-exaggerated. OWEN is very affectionate and loving and would suit a family that had a big yard where he could run and play - a kiddie pool in the warm weather is a MUST as this gives him so much pleasure, so a family that can live with a dog that likes to get wet :) Due to his issue, OWEN obviously won't be a good candidate for a running companion and walking at a human pace could cause him discomfort, so OWEN would be best with a big back yard and rides to some great spots where he can explore and venture in new environments. OWEN does walk on the leash and is fine on short distances, but he does pull so would need some training and guidance. OWEN lives here at the rescue with all the other dogs and gets on with them great, he loves chasing the puppies and of course jumping and splashing in the kiddie pool. We do free feed here at the rescue and OWEN can be a bit grumpy when eating in that he will growl at the other dogs. Some dogs will walk away and come back when he has gone, other dogs just ignore him. He has never done anything other than vocal and I believe that is just from being a stray and having to fend for himself. He has never been aggressive at any time. OWEN has been estimated at 3~4 years old, he is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and tested heart-worm negative. The video posted was taken in June and shows OWEN with a lot of the rescue dogs. Some of these dogs have since been adopted, but it will give you an idea of OWEN's love of water and his gait. You can adopt Owen and give him a loving home in time for the holidays! We use Rescue Road Trips to bring our great dogs from the rescue in south Texas to loving adopters up north. Go to www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org to complete an adoption application. Transport space fills up quickly, so don't wait. Owen would like some really good treats in his Christmas stocking, but most of all, he'd love his very own fur-ever home! Adoption fee includes transport cost. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-19-00465BELLE (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

BELLE, is very affectionate, sweet and loving young girl with a very gentle laid back temperament. Of course she loves to play and run around, but generally she is just happy to be close by and when she looks at you she looks directly into your soul. BELLE's mother was a pure bred German Shepherd and her puppies (born Dec. 2012) contracted distemper. All the pups were given the distemper serum and antibiotics and did very well. BELLE had neurological complications that were caught early on and she had surgery that was 100% successful. Belle has NO neurological side effects of distemper! However this did cause Belle to loose most of her ... (Read More)teeth. This does not hinder her in anyway at all. She happily eats with all the other dogs, takes treats and bones too. She can just look a bit goofy with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth - but a very small price to pay for battling and winning a very deadly disease. Belle, the survivor, knows how to use the dog door, is spayed, current on vacs, micro chipped and is looking for a loving forever on the East coast.      This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Bear came to us after someone at my husband's work was unable to keep him any longer due to housing. My husband felt that temporarily coming to our house would be better than staying at a work shop alone at times. This temporary arrangement has lasted longer than expected. Unfortunately, our home is not big enough for Bear and our other dog. Bear is good with our other dog. He is playful with him and loves to be outside running around with him. When it was warmer, he enjoyed being in the shade on our patio and sleeping on the tile floor in the kitchen. Bear likes to eat and is food/treat driven. He walks well on leash and has not had ... (Read More)any accidents in the crate or in the house. The first couple of weeks were difficult because he is a bit anxious in new environments. It was only difficult because he whined a lot. Now he loves his crate and sleeps through the night. Bear needs a family to commit to him as we have so that he feels welcome and safe. Bear is just about a year old now but still occasionally has the puppy instinct to chew. But, he loves his indestructible bone and carries it with him in the house a lot. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Harli was found just crying on the steps of a church in Maryland. He is an obedient and well behaved dog who love to ride in cars and trucks. He loves being indoors and being around people. He will come running when he is called but is not the type of dog that runs and jumps. During his wellness exam our vet determined that he is about 5 years old. So he is at the age where he has outgrown the energy of a puppy but still has a lot of spunk. For example, he can easily jump into the back of a station wagon or up into the bed of a truck. He is easy to walk and to manage.
