Rescue Me ID: 14-11-18-00148Howard (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Our family adopted Howard in Aug. of this year from a local shelter where he was turned in as a stray. We do not know his background, but we did take him to a behaviorist to have him evaluated. From what I told him of Howards behavior we believe he was an outside dog that was left mainly to his own devices and did not have much care given to him. Howard has since been potty trained, loves going on walks, has transitioned into a indoor dog, and loves being petted. He does not bark when someone comes to the door, and tries to avoid conflict. Howard is very protective of his personal space. He growled twice at my 8 year old when she gave ... (Read More)him a 'hug' when we first brought him home. Since then she has let Howard come to her for love, or she has approached him and petted him calmly without any issues. The reason we have to get rid of Howard is that he recently bit my husband on the nose. Howard was sleeping on one end of the couch and my husband on the other, my husband lend down and over Howard while he was sleeping to get a remote off the floor. He startled Howard, and Howard reacted by biting him. We are very sad to make this decision as he seems to be a good dog at heart, but we cannot take the chance of my youngest forgetting about Howard's personal space issues. A person with a history of dealing with troubled dogs would be the ideal outcome for Howard. He is about 76lbs. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-10-00532Chester (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered

Chester is some kind of mix with German Shepherd, and maybe retriever? He is the brown dog in the photo, is a medium sized dog, much smaller than a pure German Shepherd. He will eat chickens, so that's a problem for anyone with free range chickens. He also barks at horses and bicycles and such that go by, so a fenced yard would be ideal. He is very sweet, has never been aggressive, loves kids, gets along well with other dogs, is used to being an outdoor dog, though he's been an indoor/outdoor dog as well. Tends to be overly energetic when meeting someone new, but does settle down. Looking for someone to give this sweetheart a great home ... (Read More)where he has space to run! (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Special Needs/Senior - Available Now - Rescue or Screened Adoption as he will need further veterinary care and treatment - Blind, senior Halo is an unaltered male LabradorRretriever/Shepherd mix who needs lots of TLC to live out his remaining years in comfort. Neglected cataracts resulted in Halo's vision loss, and coupled with the loud unfamiliar shelter environment, this 12 year old guy is pretty overwhelmed/stressed and needs placement in a stable, quiet home as soon as possible. Despite years of neglect, Halo is a sweet, sociable canine who will bond with a loving, responsible owner. He will need further veterinary assessment/care and ... Rescue Me ID: 14-11-05-00680Barron (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Barron is dog aggressive and needs a fenced yard. We adopted him almost 3 years ago and the vet thought he was about 1.5 years at that time. He was heartworm positive but went through all the treatment and is 100% healthy with no long term effects. He is well trained on a leash and is very loyal to his 'people'. At this time he does not go outside without us. We don't have a fenced yard and the city just put a sidewalk in front of our house and people are constantly walking by with their dogs. The electric fence doesn't work when he wants to go after another dog unless we're there to verbally and physically stop him. I believe this ... (Read More)could be trained out of him with the right trainer. He lives with two adults, a cat and a bird. He's used to older kids but I don't know how he is with small kids. He's crate trained and tennis ball crazy. He would be a great dog for a retiree. He's used to having his people around all the time because we worked opposite schedules. He does have the HomeAgain microchip. Email only please. (Less)

Meet Zeva, a one year old shepherd and labrador mix in need of a patient and loving forever home. Zeva came to rescue with a neglectful past, which she is trying to forget. Because of her past and her age she will benefit most from a home with an experienced dog owner with no small children. Zeva can be a bit shy at first, understandably, but once she knows you are not bad she is a ball of fun and love! She is working on her manners and commands, and knows 'sit' already! She enjoys canine companions but likes to meet them first to decide whether or not they can be friends. If you have a whole in your heart and an emptiness in your home you ...     This adorable guy is Elmer! He is an 8 year old Basset Hound mix and as you might be able to tell from his pictures, he is super sweet and gentle. He very much enjoys the company of the small dogs here at the rescue, but he still longs for a person of his own to spend his time with. When Elmer first came to rescue he experienced some pain when walking. But after some TLC and medication he is doing much better and he even trots a little when going outside! If you would like a cute buddy to hang out with you and to spend some cuddle with, then Elmer could be your man! This is a very sweet natured older dog who just needs a place to call his ... German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Fearful/Anxious

I am a very hyper 2 yr old puppy. I love to chase my tail all day long. I am wonderful with children. I am still working on my door manors but am very smart. I am house broken, can sit, stay, come, speak, down and walk well on a leash. I will leave the kitchen during meal time. I also know how to play hid go seek with treats, fetch and tug of war. When I am kept busy I am a great dog. Left to my own devices I will chase my tail or pace the floor non stop. Loud noises will also cause this behavior. I like to sleep with my family in the bed. I am micro chipped, fixed and up to date on my shots. I need a home that has time for my high energy.

We adopted Titus under false pretenses about his personality around other dogs and children. This boy is a little feisty, but he's very sweet. Unfortunately when he gets too excited he starts mouthing really roughly. I would love to keep him, but he doesn't get along with my dog nor do I feel safe to let him out of the kitchen when my nieces and nephew are over. I would really love to see him go into a home that might be more accommodating to his personality and his rather large stature. Thank you.

Health: Needs to be Spayed

This dog was saved off a busy street, she was with the finder (family and 2 Dobies) for a few days and did okay. Moved to another home and was kept away from their pets, she is friendly but very socially awkward. Pretty sure she was someone's dog that was put in the backyard kennel and never paid any attention to. She doesn't seem to know how to interact or play with humans and probably doesn't know how to play with other dogs as well. Vet said she was just in heat or getting ready to be in heat.     Rosco is a 3 1/2 year old neutered male. We think he is a Husky, Shepherd, and Lab mix. He is housebroken, very friendly, and well behaved. We live on a small hobby farm and hate to get rid of Rosco but he goes after the farm animals. He has injured several of the animals and killed several chickens. We also have cats that he tries to get and I know it's only a matter of time before he gets one. I've been told that Rosco needs to go to a home where there are no other animals, except perhaps another dog (he does get along with dogs) or small children.
