German Shepherd Rescue Information: The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.

German Shepherd Trivia: German Shepherds can detect gas leaks in pipes 15 feet below ground. German Shepherds are trained as seeing eye dogs.

MEET SKYE-7 year old male Husky/Shepherd Mix We have been waiting a long time to share Skye's story. Skye came to Wild Dog Rescue nearly 4 years ago. He came to us with his mate, Karma, from the Chicago area. There they were found living near a dumpster at a horse race track, a common dumping grounds for animals. Skye and Karma were inseparable at the time, however, Karma's life was cut short due to bone cancer, and Skye has been lost since. The only security he knew was gone. He didn't trust us and was very unsure about other dogs. It has taken time and a lot of patience, but Skye has found that we aren't such bad people after all. And he ... (Read More)has even made several 4 legged friends along the way. We believe that with the right person, a lot of love and even more patience, Skye will make a great companion. He loves toys and we can even take him on walks now. He will require a fenced in yard, one at least 5 feet high. And he will not be able to go to a family with children. He will need to be in a house, so no apartments or condos for this boy. Skye is very picky and choosey about his 4 legged friends. He seems to prefer females over males, but even then, he is picky. If we could find the right match, another dog would serve as a security blanket for him and help him adjust to being a companion. Adopting Skye will take time, and probably several visits. Your opinion of this handsome guy cannot be properly formed with just one visit. He is a special guy with a sweet sweet soul. Please remember, from what we know, he has never known the love and acceptance of a human before coming here to WDR. He needs time. What he doesn't need is to spend the rest of his life in a kennel, not knowing what a dog's life should really be like. For more photos and videos of Skye please visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wilddogrescue (Less)

Fantastic dog. Very sweet and loving, with a fantastic personality to match. Has agression issues towards other dogs, which MAY diminish after being neutered. Very good with mid-older age children, not recommended that he is around infants or toddlers. Needs training, attention, and exercise, but is the best dog I've ever had.

Hi! I'm Samantha (Sammi for short) and I'm looking for my furever home! I am a 1 year old German Shepard/Cattle dog mix that weights 50 lbs. I am very smart and love to play with my toys. I enjoy running around outside with my Frisbee or a ball. I will bring it back to you so you can throw it for me again. I play very nicely with all the neighbor dogs. After I'm done running around, I like to come in and cuddle with my little foster brother or with the grandchildren if they are visiting. I am housebroken and I have excellent 'house' manners. I will go to my crate when told, and sometimes I take a nap in there during the day. I behave if I'm ... (Read More)left alone in the house. I also ride very nicely in the car, and love to go places with my foster mom. She enjoys showing me off! I am entering a 10 week obedience training program so I will learn even more commands! Submit your application today. I'm spayed and UTD on all my vaccines, HW, FT, and have a microchip of my own. RPSM recommends children 6 years and older. I will require a fenced in yard, either physical or underground. If you are interested in adopting me, please go to www.rpsm.org to fill out an application. My adoption fee is $300. (Less)

Hi, my name is Forest and I am a 60lb male Chocolate Lab mix. I am pretty skinny right now so my weight might go up once in training. I am very intelligent, but I don't have a lot of manners right now. That is all going to change once I enter the RPSM prison companion program. I can't wait to get started on my training as I am very food motivated; that paired with how smart I am will make me a quick learner and a great family member, especially cause when people ask me to do something I try really hard. I love playing fetch and will go after a ball for hours. I need a strong leader and room to move! I should be with kids 8 years and ... German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello my name is Emma; I am a 3 year old female German Shepherd mix. I currently weigh about 45 lbs. Not much is known about my first 3 years before I ended up at the Elkhart Humane Society in January. I was scared, confused and very skinny, weighing only 34 lbs. My foster parents are working hard to put some weight on me and to teach me that not all humans are scary. I didn't want to play with any toys or my foster brother at first. It took me about 3 weeks before I started to relax and now I am showing signs of confidence and happiness. I will play with my foster brother now, but I still don't like toys too much or the sound of squeaky ... (Read More)toys, but maybe the trainers will help me work on that. I do like to chew on bones though. I don't know what these other furry things are that they call 'cats' but when they hiss, I run the other way! I try to sniff them once in a while or chase them when they run but if they give me a dirty look '|'|I'm out of there! My foster mom said I am smart and I can be very focused when I see a treat but sometimes I get so excited my butt gets the wiggles and I can't hardly sit still. She also said I am very sweet and gentle. I love to go on long walks! I am looking for a home where I can get a lot of love and attention. My new family needs to have a lot of patients with me to give me time to warm up to them because I can be very timid until I get used to a place. All I want is to be loved. Submit your application today if I wound like the girl for you. I'm spayed and UTD on all my vaccines, HW, FT, and have a microchip of my own. RPSM recommends children 6 years and older. Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Marley is a great dog who just needs a special home. She is very loving, playful, laid back and house trained. She loves to go for walks and car rides. However we have found she has a jealous side, which causes her to become aggressive. We have hired a trainer who has help tremendously, but we still worry about her with little kids. While it breaks my heart to rehome her, we have to think of everyone's safety. We want the best home for Marley and our trainer will be helping us with the process and also wants to help you. If you adopt Marley we will be giving you all her stuff and 1 free training lesson.

This darling girl is Presley. Presley is a 1 year old, 45 lb Shepherd blend with the cutest perky ears and personality you can't help but fall in love with! She is a true butt wiggler, always happy to see you and loves to be the center of attention. She is crate trained, house broken, great with all dogs, sits, shakes and is working on controlling the jumping on you when she gets over excited. She walks well on a leash and always watching what's going on around her. As you can see, she likes bones (lol) and toys and is starting to get the hang of "fetch". No matter what playtime entails, you will love the cute hop she does when ... (Read More)playing in the yard! :) Presley has no food aggression and loves to eat laying down out of a bowl so she can still see what's going on in the room. Presley has a curious nature and likes to investigate when her foster family is gone, so currently she is crated with a chew toy so she doesn't decide to throw her own house party!!. Presley loves belly rubs and when she gets in trouble that is her first reaction is to roll over and give you those cute puppy dog eyes. And - it usually works :D Presley would probably do best with an active family that is committed to continuing her training. A physically fenced in yard is probably best for this girl too. Because Presely still needs working on jumping up, a home with children 8 and older might be best. If you are looking for a cuddly and loyal companion then Presley is your girl! Those with interest should send an inquiry today! Presley is fully vetted and microchipped. (Less)

He's well behaved in the house, a perfect house guest, but would love to find his forever home. Because he is in foster, an approved adoption application is required. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-19-00273Selma (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Selma was rescued from a high kill shelter in San Antonio, TX in January 2016. She was so scared in the shelter, she was snapping at the staff. She was sure to be one of the first to be euthanized that day because of her fearful behavior. Selma is a beautiful, fun, playful and energetic little girl. We saw that within just a few days of being at our house. She is about 4 years old and mature beyond her years, but very young at heart and extremely intelligent. Selma knows 'sit' and willingly does so when she wants a treat! She also knows 'no' and listens very well when asked to redirect her behavior. She is also crate trained, house trained ... (Read More)and prefers to be loose in the house, although we recommend crating her when she is alone for long periods. Selma was listed at the shelter as a shepherd mix but, she is really the size of a beagle and weighs only about 25-30 pounds. Because Selma was likely abused before she was picked up as a stray, we recommend her new family have no small children and prior dog experience. Despite Selma's past, she has a very playful side and loves people who are fun and will play with her. Selma loves to run through the house, grunting, and playing with toys. Squeak toys are her favorite but, she also enjoys a relaxing chew on a Nylabone. She enjoys being near people and longs for human contact. She mostly just wants to know she isn't alone and is safe in her environment. %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%81S Selma is also crate trained and goes willingly into her crate at meal time and for treats. She is house trained, too. Selma is dog and cat friendly but, needs to be introduced properly due to her fear of new friends. Selma is also leash trained and knows her name, and comes running when called! Selma would LOVE a fenced yard since she is somewhat fearful and timid. A fenced yard would offer her security and help her gain her confidence. We would recommend not leaving her off leash for a while in the beginning and then, progressing to a long line attached to her collar when allowing her to roam free in her yard. Selma's only requirements include: prior dog experience and a fenced yard, being committed to giving her the best life, people willing to move slow and speak softly in order to help gain her confidence and trust, loving her forever, and being her best friend. Please email or call if you are interested in adopting Selma and forever making her a part of your family. We require an adoption application, references, home check and adoption contract. Her adoption fee is $225, and she is up to date on vaccinations, HW negative and taking preventative, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Each adoption is considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the dog and their requirements as well as the family and their circumstances. NO TEXT MESSAGES please!! (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Max. I have a bit of a sad story. My mommy had to give me up because I nipped at someone and bit another. It wasn't a bad bite but enough for mommy to say she was going to have to put me down. One of her friends heard about this and contacted this rescue asking for help. They thankfully saved my life. They accepted me into their program. I am a great boy once I get to know someone. I am leery of new people, especially men, but once I get to know and trust them, I'm fine. I am approximately 3.5 years old. I am a German shepherd/husky mix. I do well with most dogs but small dogs and kitties and me do not mix. Blame ... (Read More)that on the husky side of me! I am playful and love to sit and cuddle. I know how to sit, lay down, shake, stay....so as you can see I am very very smart. When you say "go home", I know exactly what to do. That means go into my kennel. I always like to take one of my toys from my kennel with me when I go outside. I should probably be placed in a home with kids 15 years or older only. I need a stable home with mature owners. I ride wonderfully in the car and get very excited for car rides. I love to go for walks and walk wonderful on the leash. I should go to a home with a 6 foot high fenced in yard. I am a bigger boy who likes to roam and explore. So if you are experienced with a dog like me and can work on more training with me then I would LOVE to meet you! Love always, Max. (a foster home would be considered!!) (Less)
