Rescue Me ID: 15-09-17-00256Hakko (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Adult Men Only
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hakko is a nine-month-old German Shepherd. Hakko is a very responsive dog that is living in dog paradise outside of Ely, MN. He loves to retrieve and explore the woods with me. He is a high-energy, very athletic pup that is finally calming down and rounding into a great young dog around the cabin. He lives in dog paradise with me and a 13+ year-old GS on 28 acres of woodland surrounded by hundreds of acres. He did well in novice obedience school, does great on recall and responds to some hand signals. He is very food and award oriented. The problem is, all efforts of socialization, from nine weeks on have failed. He is not good with ... (Read More)adults or children, and has nipped a friend's son. He has bonded to me, and only me. I am the only person in the worlds Hakko trusts. He is so-so with other dogs, though not a fighter, and his one experience with cats was okay. I have no trouble handling, working, training, and living with Hakko, all the while in a locale that is perfect for him. The problem is that no one else can really approach him, let alone care for him beside me. If I absolutely have to leave town, I cannot take him along, nor can I kennel him, and if something happens to me, there is only one option for Hakko. He would probably be a great shutzhund project especially the tracking portion of that discipline. I doubt he could be turned into a family pet, so he is not for someone who has read a book and wants a German Shepherd. I have had German Shepherds for 42 years, and for the first time, I am clueless what to do. If anyone is interested in a great young dog that loves life, but has never learned to trust people, feel free to contact me, or for that matter have any suggestions. Veterinary clinic references as well as a personal veterinarian must be included if I were to consider any candidate for adoption. (Less)

I can no longer keep him due to my living situation is now with free range chickens and he kills them. Has also growled at my children a few times. He is very friendly and playful. Loves attention and car rides. Would do best were he could run as he whines when he has to be tied up. Not sure of his exact age was told he is about three years old and is neutered. Unsure of vaccines.
