Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy

Animal ID: A218543Blue Woodbury (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Blue Woodbury (A218543) is a 3 year old, German Shepherd that was not reclaimed by his owner after his 10 day confinement period. The owners stated that Blue had an FHO done last year, has been on Previcox and Glucosamine, but we have no proof of this. Blue is very talkative, but when assertive toward him he listens very well. Blue seems treat motivated and seems to know a few commands. We had a trainer come out and evaluate Blue and they stated that he is very responsive to commands. Blue's owner passed away a few weeks and his owner's mother took him in after the death of their daughter. While a friend was visiting they stated that Blue ... (Read More)bit the visitor in the face. The new owner stated that Blue has been very confused after the passing of his owner. Blue pulls slightly on the leash while walking, but has a good recall and takes correction very well. The trainer did mess with Blue's face, tail, hips and ears, in which Blue was nonreactive. Trainer stated he is submissive to people and is a typical Shepherd who likes to be with his person and looks to them for guidance. Due to a bite history we are unable to place Blue Woodbury up for general adoption and are reaching out to rescue groups. We will know more about Blue's health once his medical has been completed.     Chewie is a fantastic pet. Needs a bit of behavior training. But is kennel trained, potty trained, treat trained. She is such a happy and friendly dog that needs more time, love and attention than we can give. We are rehoming for this and financial reasons. She loves to play and cuddle. She likes to be walked but is a bit strong on a leash. We have three kids and she has been around children of all ages. She would be a great addition to anyone that would like a very excited and loving companion.

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi! My name is Jason. I am a cuddly and cute guy who LOVES attention, treats, toys, hugs and kisses! I just need someone who will unconditionally love me the same back! I am very devoted and loyal and my Mom likes to call me a 'Velcro' dog. I like to be by your side at all times. I currently have a foster brother, but my foster Mom thinks I will do better as an only dog%BD'%BD|.I am a bit of an attention hog! I am house trained and poop and pee at regular times throughout the day. I also have a crate that I stay in sometimes when Mommy is at work. I love my toys and know how to get them out of my basket when I want to play with them. I ... (Read More)am great on a leash; however, I need to be on a leash at all times since I am easily distracted and want to chase things. I love to chase and pounce on leaves when they jump around on the ground. I know how to sit, stay, and come. Mommy says I behave like a tough boy, but I am still very fragile since I need to gain lots of weight and had a tough start to life with my siblings. I also need someone who is patient and not forceful. From Foster Mom: Jason is a beautiful eight-month old German Shepherd. He is an amazing pup who just needs good old fashioned TLC. He is a very special dog that has touched my life and like so many rescues he only wants to be loved. He will make a wonderful addition to any family and will be loyal to you and yours. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Duncan was a stray puppy that has lived with the same family since he wandered onto our door step. As animal lovers, we decided to take him in and try to find him a home. Our efforts in the beginning were unsuccessful and 6 years later he is still part of the family. Duncan is a large breed of dog and it has been exceptionally hard for us to give him adequate space in and out doors. He is loving and sweet but has always seemed extremely timid, fearful and anxious. This makes it extremely hard to make him a full functioning family member. Ideally he needs outdoor space and an owner that can dedicate much patience to create a calming ... (Read More)environment. (Less)

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MEET JOSIE!! This gorgeous 2 year old black and tan German Shepherd female came to us from the Moreno Valley shelter in CA. Once again we will never understand why people don't look for their dogs, especially when they are as awesome as this girl. She passed her shelter temp tests with flying colors. Josie is an active and happy girl. She has a petite frame and is considered on the smaller side for a GSD. She is playful and sweet, loves ear rubs and human attention. Josie was very well behaved at the vet during her exam and even was a good girl during her bath. This little stunner likes to run, play with her Jolly ball and play fetch ... (Read More)(still learning to bring it back). Josie will need an active family with understanding of the breed. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

MEET SADIE!!! Sadie is a stunning 1.5 year old white, female German Shepherd that has not had the best time of it. Surrendered by her original family to a local shelter, she was adopted a few days later. Her 'new family' decided they could not keep her just 4 days later and then THEY surrendered her to the rescue. Abandoned twice in one week! Can you imagine how this sweet babe felt? Poor Sadie didn't deserve that as she is a sweet and lovely lady. Sadie does well with other dogs when introduced properly. She can get nervous when left alone and prefers the company of a laid back companion as she feeds off the confidence of other dogs ... (Read More)around her and will thrive in a family with another furry friend. Sadie is crate trained and does well when another dog is present, but can get destructive when left alone. We recently had her at an event filled with people (adults and kids) and she was a dream! She was so happy to visit with the other dogs and loved the attention she got from everyone who passed by. A fun loving dog, she loves to play fetch in the yard and is a master at collecting whatever toy is thrown and returning it to your feet. Sadie is UTD, spayed, microchipped, HW- and on flea/tick/HW preventatives. Adoption fee $400. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Stella, I am believed to be between 2 and 3 years old. I am completely vetted, up to date on my vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, on heartworm, flea, and intestinal worm preventatives. I am a very sweet girl, I know my basic obedience, am house trained, crate trained, and I love to go for rides in the car. I do fantastic out in public, going everywhere with my human. I am the epitome of a velcro dog. I have started on my basic obedience training and am brushing up on some of my skills. Although I am great with most other dogs I may bark or give chase to very small dogs. I would probably be best suited for a family or ... (Read More)individual without other dogs or an experienced German Shepherd person. I am a big couch potato, Its great when I am inside just sitting on my foster mom's lap, giving kisses or chilling on the couch with permission of course. I am obedient and very loyal. I do seem to have a preference of women - as long as I get petted, loved, toys to play with, belly rubs, and maybe even able to share your bed... I will be incredibly loyal, loving, and hopefully with my forever family. Do you have space in your heart and your home for a sweet girl like myself? There is an adoption process. 1. You request an adoption application (email FTLODNC@gmail.com to request an application). 2. Your references and Vet reference will be checked, (your answers will be matched up with the particular dog - and others that are available). 3. IF all is well, a Home Visit will be scheduled. Sometimes a video or photos will be allowed. any issues will be identified and addressed. 4. IF all that has been done and it's all good then a Meet and Greet would be scheduled, IF that goes well then... You would be able to sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee (or make prior arrangements) and take me to my new forever home. It sounds like a lot - and maybe it is... but the Rescue only has my best interest at heart and they want to ensure that the family that takes me home is a good fit for my personality, temperament and that I have the best possible chances for a successful forever placement. So please don't be hesitant to put a little effort into bringing me, or one of my other rescue pals into your home. Thank You for considering Rescue over breeders. There is a $10 application fee - it does help keep the rescue efforts going. the application fee can be paid via our paypal link. www.PayPal.Me/FTLOD or a check can be made out and mailed to For the Love of Dogs Rescue, 315 Gray Street, Statesville, NC 28677. Please keep in mind that this rescue is ran of a Foster Home model, there is no facility. All of the dogs are kept in Foster Homes. That is one reason the application process is in the order that it is. We wish for you and your loved ones health, happiness, and prosperity. IF I am not the right dog for your family, you can be put on the waiting list - typically the rescue can find the right dog for each home's specific needs within 6 months. Sometimes much shorter and sometimes a little longer. It really depends on How LONG and Specific your 'Must Have' list is and how that matches up with the dogs that the rescue takes in. Most families do not mind waiting a little while for the RIGHT Dog for Their Home. We want to make sure that it's the right fit all the way around. We want this to be for the rest of the dog's life. Please be very specific about your home, activities, and must have and would like to have descriptions on the application. I am Neutered, Up to date on all of my vaccinations, been dewormmed, Microchipped, Heart Worm negative, on Heart worm, Intestinal worm, flea and tic preventatives. I am doing great with people and dogs now BUT I am a little fearful of a lot of changes and am just now gaining some self confidence. I need a confident handler who has experience with my breed ... (Read More)as occasionally I will bark or bluff if you startle me. I would give plenty of warnnings in my body language, growls, etc. before it ever came to a real bite, but it could be possible. I am a very sweet boy.     Hey there, my name is Lexus. I'm a one year old Shepherd mix. I'm a sweet girl who loves attention. But there are a few things you need to know before you consider adopting me. First of all, I am very afraid of most men so I should only be adopted by a woman. I am still a bit selective with just which woman I pick to be my special person, but if you are lucky enough to make the cut, you will find that I will never leave your side! It takes me several meetings to build trust, but if I choose you, I will run and lay in your lap for as long as you let me. I will cover you with kisses and unconditional love! I am very protective of the people I ... (Read More)love. For this reason I would probably do best in a family without children. I am a gorgeous girl with thick fur and floppy ears. I have a black muzzle and big paws, and am a fairly large gal. If you're looking for a dog who is unwaveringly loyal and always faithful, I am the girl for you! Again, if you are interested, you should come and meet me a few times to make sure we would get along. I'm just waiting for my special someone. Will it be you? UPDATE: Lexus is making tremendous progress! She now trusts one of our male workers who has made an effort to connect with her as well as several more women. She's definitely coming out of her shell - in her own time. We believe she may be part Anatolian Shepherd and part Lab. Regardless, she's absolutely gorgeous and a fun, amazing girl for those she's chosen to trust. Come meet this gorgeous girl! (Less)

MEET BEAN!! NO DOGS, NO CATS Bean is a handsome red and black German Shepherd mix that comes to us from the Davidson County Animal Shelter. Poor boy hasn't had it easy. His former owners never bothered to keep him on heart worm prevention and now he is heart worm positive. A simple $20 a month pill and this guy wouldn't be infested. Bean is currently undergoing heart worm treatment. Boy is this guy super sweet. He is curious and adapts well to new situations. Bean does NOT like other dogs. He will walk by other dogs when they are kenneled and even sniff noses with them. However, when loose with others he will go straight after another ... (Read More)dog in a very aggressive manner. Bean must go to a home with NO OTHER DOGS or CATS. Bean is happy, playful and loves attention. He knows basic commands and even gives paw.     Hello my name is Livvy!!! I was pulled from RCAS back in the summer of 2015 and I am still looking for my forever home. I have been fully vetted including spay, micro chip, vaccinations, wormed, HW tested etc. I came back heart worm positive but I finished my treatments and resting period and happy to say I am HW NEGATIVE NOW and a healthy girl. I have been through so much and ended up in a kill shelter in MD from my last adopter but my rescue worked very hard to get me back ...to NC where I have been with my wonderful foster mom Lori who I love and trust very much. I want to be your best girl and be given a chance to know what a real home feels like. I am 3-4 yr old now and a hound mix. I think I'm a pretty special girl since I was rescued from not being killed and then vetted where I am not sick and then saved again and brought back home. My rescue and foster mom really loves me and they have done so much for me. I know you will love me too if you just give me a chance. All that is missing now is my forever home. German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Kane. I am believed to be between 3 and 4 years old. I am a very sweet boy. I have been completely vetted. I am neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations, microchipped, on heartworm, intestinal worm, flea, and tick preventatives. I am house trained, crate trained, very good on riding in the car, and have my basic obedience training. Although I am great with other dogs and great with people, I can be a little possessive of my human if another dog tries to get more attention than me. I would probably be best suited for a family or individual without other dogs or an experienced German Shepherd person. I am a big couch potato, ... (Read More)Its great when I am inside just sitting on my foster mom's lap, giving kisses or chilling on the couch with permission of course. I am obedient and very loyal. I am currently in the working dog program and have been training for service dog work. My assessments continue to go well, so far so good. I do not have a preference of men or women - as long as I get petted, loved, toys to play with, belly rubs, and maybe even able to share your bed... I will be incredibly loyal, loving, and hopefully with my forever family. I can be a little possessive over my human if there are other dogs in the family. I just want the attention. Do you have space in your heart and your home for a sweet boy like myself? Once I am placed with my new handler, the rescue will work with and mentor the new handler to complete my task specific training needed for my new handler's needs. together we will log up to 120 hours of training to consider me a working dog. It will only help us to match you and the right dog for your family and lifestyle. Together We Can Make A Difference ! (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ruby is a 3 year old female German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix that found herself dumped by her family at the local shelter at 3 years old. The change from living with her family to going to the shelter and then to foster care shook her up pretty badly and for the first few weeks she was fairly unhappy. Ruby had a hard time settling in and getting used to a whole new life and figuring out how she fit in with her new environment. Because of this, Ruby needs a home that will give her the time and effort to help her settle in and become a part of the family, knowing that at first she will be stressed from yet another change. Ruby really ... (Read More)needs a home where she can be an only dog. She has moments where she is great with a very submissive male who is smaller than her but it is not only consistent. Her foster's best guess is that she was not properly socialized while she was a puppy and now she is not entirely sure how to play with other dogs so when it gets too energetic for her she shuts down and gets defensive. Ruby is also in a foster home with cats and is very cat curious. She will follow them around but backs away when they give her the sign that they have had enough. However, it doesn't mean that she won't begin to follow them around 5 minutes later though. Ruby is house and crate trained. She does need to be crated when her foster leaves the house, otherwise she gets very stressed and will paw at the door non stop. She does not like to be alone, and will also repeat the behavior if left outside in the yard alone. Ruby really just wants to be with her people. She is able to walk on a leash but would not make the best running partner since new sounds tend to spook her and land her right between her foster mom's feet. Ruby would love a quiet household that will commit to helping her gain her confidence back after being so taken aback by being abandoned and will require a 6ft privacy fenced yard for her safety and to give her a place to work out some of her excess energy. Animal ID: 0047Roqui (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET ROQUI This beyond adorable boy is a 1 year old black and tan German Shepherd mix that came to us from the Downey Shelter in CA. This guy is tall, lanky and lean and a ton of fun. Those ears give Roqui quite the unique look and we think it is adorable. Roqui gets along well with other dogs and just loves to play. We believe he would do well going to Doggy Day Care or a dog park because he hangs out with anywhere from 3-5 other dogs here at the rescue. He would do better with dogs that are closer to his size than with smaller dogs because as a young boy, his play style is rough and tumble. This youngster loves toys and bones but ... (Read More)doesn't like to share his bone. He will run, chase, wrestle and play tug with others. When he stands still for a minute, Roqui likes ear rubs and attention from his humans. Roqui would do well with a family that is active and looking for a companion who likes to hike, run and play. Roqui needs some work on his manners as he does jump up and is a bit mouthy, sometimes wanting to play by holding your hand in his mouth,n nothing a stable environment, time, attention and the proper training won't fix. We are working on manners to help him become the wonderful pup we know is there. Because of his lack of manners, young age and size, we would recommend a family with older children. A family that adopts him will be required to attend training classes for both his and their benefit. Roqui is UTD, microchipped, HW-, on flea/tick/HW preventative and neutered. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

This handsome boy is Norton, and all he wants is his fur-ever home! He was found locally as a stray and taken in by a local businesswoman who brought him to us. He was very malnutritioned but still very healthy. Unfortunately, he did test positive for heart worm, so he will need to continue on Heart Guard while being monitored and retested every 6-12 months to monitor his progress. We believe him to be a German Shepherd or Boxer mix. He's approx. 2 years old, weighs approx. 50 pounds, is up to date on all vaccinations, de-wormed, and neutered. He's very active and playful, but don't think he would be good around kids, and would do best as an ... (Read More)outside dog with a fenced yard. Rescue Me ID: 16-08-01-00517Riley (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there! My name is Riley and I have more love & personality in one paw than most people do in their whole body. My FAVORITE things are just being with my people & giving them all of my love & affection!!! I LOVE to run free and be social, if off leash. I really don't like to be left alone, but I KNOW'|. It's got to happen, so please put my 4 legged brother or sister in a crate right next to me so I don't get lonely or feel too anxious! I really don't like to be left alone or put in a crate, but if I have my BFF next to me I will be OK. It may take some time for me to become adjusted, but I promise my unconditional love will be worth it! ... (Read More)Also, I am a GREAT running partner (if that's your thing) and nothing makes me happier than running with my human! My life started out AMAZING for the first year, then, my 2 legged Mom had a baby & they threw me outside & forgot about me. I didn't like being alone, so I kept digging under the fence to escape. After ending up at animal control a few times as a stray, my 'family' tied me up in the backyard! That was not very nice of them, so I chewed my way free and dug my way out again'| and again! Then I got pregnant bc my family didn't care enough to have me spayed, even knowing I liked to escape. I had a litter of puppies and thankfully, my humans had some great neighbors who would feed me and the pups. One day a rescue group came and took all my puppies to rescue so they could have a better life. They also took me to have surgery so I couldn't have any more puppies! I have met some amazing people along my journey, but I have not found my forever home yet. With everything I've been through, I have SO MUCH LOVE to give. I just need a k9 companion so I am never completely alone, but I also need a home where my people/person is home with me most days. I may be a lot of work at first, but I know that my unconditional love is more than worth the effort! As an extra bonus, I am being featured for the month of June so if I am adopted in the month of June, my adoption fee will be waived. If you would like to see if I would be a good match, please contact my foster mom at foster4mycharlotte@gmail.com (Less)
