German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Baxter showed up at a home recently in the mountains as a stray. The people couldn't keep him because they already had two dogs, two cats, and travel extensively so they called PAWS to intake and find him a forever home. Baxter is a 1-2 YO, beautiful, nice, happy dog who is easy-going and submissive and weighs 42 lbs. He likes to be inside with his foster family and other canine companions. He's good with most dogs, but is a resource guarder of bones and food. We feel, because he had to fend for himself for who knows how long, he developed this behavior to survive. However, he's shown no aggression towards people or animals. He is house ... (Read More)trained, but not crate trained. He's just started wearing a collar and while he's not fond of it, he's OK walking on a leash, but would rather be loose. Baxter sleeps on a chair or bed, but could be trained to sleep elsewhere with his new owner. Baxter would do best with experienced dog owners who are active and have either a fenced-in yard and/or give him plenty of opportunities to run or hike. He would also enjoy canine companions to play with. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

My Story 12.5 year old Max is a total family guy. He is a tan Lab/Shepherd mix, approximately 65 lbs, who loves people of all ages. He is currently being fostered in a home with a cat and another dog. Max is curious about the cat, but never bothers it. He gets along great with the other dog. Max lived 12 years of his life as an inside dog until his owners gave him to their son, who kept Max tied up outside for about a year. Max's foster keeps him inside where he belongs. He is crated when they are not home and does great! Max is also house trained. Max doesn't hear well, so his foster uses hand signals and bribes him with ... (Read More)treats. Max is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. Max is heartworm positive but his fosters have started him on a slow kill treatment. Max loves to lay around and be petted. He also enjoys short strolls on a leash. He would love a low energy home of his own to live out the rest of his life. Can you open your heart and home to this senior guy? He will show his appreciation for the rest of his life. He is sure to bond completely and deeply with his caretakers, who will be his heroes. Max will surely be an affectionate and loyal companion. Max and his fosters are praying they can find him a great loving home. For more information, please contact Victoria at (919) 710-2738. ##170254## (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Stella, I am believed to be between 2 and 3 years old. I am completely vetted, up to date on my vaccinations, spayed, microchipped, on heartworm, flea, and intestinal worm preventatives. I am a very sweet girl, I know my basic obedience, am house trained, crate trained, and I love to go for rides in the car. I do fantastic out in public, going everywhere with my human. I am the epitome of a velcro dog. I have completed my basic obedience training and am brushing up on some of my skills. Although I am great with most other dogs I may bark or give chase to very small dogs. I would probably be best suited for a family or ... (Read More)individual with other dogs or an experienced German Shepherd person. I am a big couch potato, Its great when I am inside just sitting on my foster mom's lap, giving kisses or chilling on the couch with permission of course. I am obedient and very loyal. I do not seem to have a preference of women or men - as long as I get petted, loved, toys to play with, belly rubs, and maybe even able to share your bed... I will be incredibly loyal, loving, and hopefully with my forever family. Do you have space in your heart and your home for a sweet girl like myself? There is an adoption process. 1. You request an adoption application (email FTLODNC@gmail.com to request an application). 2. Your references and Vet reference will be checked, (your answers will be matched up with the particular dog - and others that are available). 3. IF all is well, a Home Visit will be scheduled. Sometimes a video or photos will be allowed. any issues will be identified and addressed. 4. IF all that has been done and it's all good then a Meet and Greet would be scheduled, IF that goes well then... You would be able to sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee (or make prior arrangements) and take me to my new forever home. It sounds like a lot - and maybe it is... but the Rescue only has my best interest at heart and they want to ensure that the family that takes me home is a good fit for my personality, temperament and that I have the best possible chances for a successful forever placement. So please don't be hesitant to put a little effort into bringing me, or one of my other rescue pals into your home. Thank You for considering Rescue over breeders. There is a $10 application fee - it does help keep the rescue efforts going. the application fee can be paid via our paypal link. www.PayPal.Me/FTLOD or a check can be made out and mailed to For the Love of Dogs Rescue, 315 Gray Street, Statesville, NC 28677. Please keep in mind that this rescue is ran of a Foster Home model, there is no facility. All of the dogs are kept in Foster Homes. That is one reason the application process is in the order that it is. We wish for you and your loved ones health, happiness, and prosperity. IF I am not the right dog for your family, you can be put on the waiting list - typically the rescue can find the right dog for each home's specific needs within 6 months. Sometimes much shorter and sometimes a little longer. It really depends on How LONG and Specific your 'Must Have' list is and how that matches up with the dogs that the rescue takes in. Most families do not mind waiting a little while for the RIGHT Dog for Their Home. We want to make sure that it's the right fit all the way around. We want this to be for the rest of the dog's life. Please be very specific about your home, activities, and must have and would like to have descriptions on the application. It will only help us to match you and the right dog for your family and lifestyle. Together We Can Make A Difference ! (Less)

I do not have a preference of men or women - as long as I get petted, loved, toys to play with, belly rubs, and maybe even able to share your bed... I will be incredibly loyal, loving, and hopefully with my forever family. Do you have space in your heart and your home for a sweet boy like myself? Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am already spayed, housetrained, up to date with shots, good with kids, and good with dogs. Goldie's Story... Hi! I am Goldie. I am a 5yo German Shepherd mix. I was found in an abandoned house with several friends just before it was torn down. I arrived at the shelter almost starved to death weighing just 45lbs. The nice folks with Paws for Life rescued me from the noise and smells of the shelter and gave me a nice home to live in. I have since learned to live in a house with people, I learned to potty only outside, I am crate trained and like to relax in there while my people sleep, or are away at work. I get along great with most dogs, ... (Read More)I don't like the pushy puppies who jump on me. I walk well on a leash using a easy walk harness, I like rides in the car as well. I needed a lot of help to get better after I was found. I have been given all of my shots including a leptospirosis vaccine. I have been microchipped to help me find my way home if I am lost. I have been spayed, had a hernia repair, and several teeth extracted, and given medicine to fix my itchy skin and ear infection. While I was living on my own I chewed on anything I could find which broke and wore down my front teeth, so they had to be removed. I can still eat dry kibble just fine without them. I have gained weight up to 62lbs now, when I finally get up to a good weight I should weigh around 70lbs. I need a home without cats, I will chase and harm them or other small animals that look like food to me. Please come see me at an adoption event, I hope to find my forever home soon!     MEET BEAN!! NO DOGS, NO CATS Bean is a handsome red and black German Shepherd mix that comes to us from the Davidson County Animal Shelter. Poor boy hasn't had it easy. His former owners never bothered to keep him on heart worm prevention and now he is heart worm positive. A simple $20 a month pill and this guy wouldn't be infested. Bean is currently undergoing heart worm treatment. Boy is this guy super sweet. He is curious and adapts well to new situations. Bean does NOT like other dogs. He will walk by other dogs when they are kenneled and even sniff noses with them. However, when loose with others he will go straight after another ... (Read More)dog in a very aggressive manner.     Hello my name is Livvy!!! I was pulled from RCAS back in the summer of 2015 and I am still looking for my forever home. I have been fully vetted including spay, micro chip, vaccinations, wormed, HW tested etc. I came back heart worm positive but I finished my treatments and resting period and happy to say I am HW NEGATIVE NOW and a healthy girl. I have been through so much and ended up in a kill shelter in MD from my last adopter but my rescue worked very hard to get me back ...to NC where I have been with my wonderful foster mom Lori who I love and trust very much. Since I've been through so much, it takes me a little bit to trust you but ... (Read More)once I know you want to love me and not hurt me, I really open up and shine like a superstar. I get along with my other doggy brothers and sisters and need a home where I have plenty of room to run and play. I love my people friends also and want nothing more than attention and love. I want to be your best girl and be given a chance to know what a real home feels like. I am 3-4 yr old now and a hound mix. I think I'm a pretty special girl since I was rescued from not being killed and then vetted where I am not sick and then saved again and brought back home. My rescue and foster mom really loves me and they have done so much for me. I know you will love me too if you just give me a chance. All that is missing now is my forever home. Animal ID: 0047Roqui (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

MEET ROQUI This beyond adorable boy is a 1 year old black and tan German Shepherd mix that came to us from the Downey Shelter in CA. This guy is tall, lanky and lean and a ton of fun. Those ears give Roqui quite the unique look and we think it is adorable. Roqui gets along well with other dogs and just loves to play. We believe he would do well going to Doggy Day Care or a dog park because he hangs out with anywhere from 3-5 other dogs here at the rescue. He would do better with dogs that are closer to his size than with smaller dogs because as a young boy, his play style is rough and tumble. This youngster loves toys and bones but ... (Read More)doesn't like to share his bone. He will run, chase, wrestle and play tug with others. When he stands still for a minute, Roqui likes ear rubs and attention from his humans. Roqui would do well with a family that is active and looking for a companion who likes to hike, run and play. Roqui needs some work on his manners as he does jump up and is a bit mouthy, sometimes wanting to play by holding your hand in his mouth,n nothing a stable environment, time, attention and the proper training won't fix. We are working on manners to help him become the wonderful pup we know is there. Because of his lack of manners, young age and size, we would recommend a family with older children. A family that adopts him will be required to attend training classes for both his and their benefit. Roqui is UTD, microchipped, HW-, on flea/tick/HW preventative and neutered. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi there! My name is Riley and I have more love & personality in one paw than most people do in their whole body. My FAVORITE things are just being with my people & giving them all of my love & affection!!! I LOVE to run free and be social, if off leash. I really don't like to be left alone, but I KNOW'|. It's got to happen, so please put my 4 legged brother or sister in a crate right next to me so I don't get lonely or feel too anxious! I really don't like to be left alone or put in a crate, but if I have my BFF next to me I will be OK. It may take some time for me to become adjusted, but I promise my unconditional love will be worth it! ... (Read More)Also, I am a GREAT running partner (if that's your thing) and nothing makes me happier than running with my human! My life started out AMAZING for the first year, then, my 2 legged Mom had a baby & they threw me outside & forgot about me. I didn't like being alone, so I kept digging under the fence to escape. After ending up at animal control a few times as a stray, my 'family' tied me up in the backyard! That was not very nice of them, so I chewed my way free and dug my way out again'| and again! Then I got pregnant bc my family didn't care enough to have me spayed, even knowing I liked to escape. I had a litter of puppies and thankfully, my humans had some great neighbors who would feed me and the pups. One day a rescue group came and took all my puppies to rescue so they could have a better life. They also took me to have surgery so I couldn't have any more puppies! I have met some amazing people along my journey, but I have not found my forever home yet. With everything I've been through, I have SO MUCH LOVE to give. I just need a k9 companion so I am never completely alone, but I also need a home where my people/person is home with me most days. I may be a lot of work at first, but I know that my unconditional love is more than worth the effort! As an extra bonus, I am being featured for the month of June so if I am adopted in the month of June, my adoption fee will be waived. We are recommending older kids due to his size. Duke is a mellow and laid back guy who is very loving and loyal. He is crate trained, housetrained, walks well on a leash and is a great car rider. He is great in the house and does not need to be crated while alone. Duke is an awesome dog and is doing great in his foster home.
