Rescue Me ID: 17-01-21-00191Kodie (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Hello. Kodie was a stray puppy that a friend of our found and took in. He kept the dog for a few months until his landlord made him get rid of the dog. He was unable to find him a home and was going to send him the the pound when I offered to take him in in the hopes of finding him a forever home. I have had little success and then I found this site. Kodie is a german shepherd chocolate lab mix and is a loving dog who just loves to cuddle all the time. He will play fetch, though he doesn't always remember to bring it back. He liked to play with our cat even though she didn't like to play and he is curious about our ferrets but still a little ... (Read More)afraid of them.Kodie is a very smart dog and loves everyone. I have never had an issue with him. I do have all of his vet records from his time in my care. I cannot afford to keep Kodie nor do I have the room that a big dog needs. Please contact me via text message first at 513 827 4169. I have a busy work schedule so a quick text is easiest for me but I will call as soon as possible. (Less)

Animal ID: 107Granola (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Granola is a very playful puppy. He is absolutely stunning, with his ridiculous ears, and his gorgeous markings. He knows sit and will require additional training. He is very jumpy and mouthy, for this reason we do not recommend kids under 12 yrs old for him. He loves toys and loves to play. 49 lbs. 1 year. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, ... (Read More)OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis, Abused/Neglected

Tess is a very sweet Shepherd/sheltie mix. She has lived a quiet life with a bachelor,(90 year-old Vet WW II &Korea). Her owner is now physically unable to let her out for potty and activity. So, Tess' owner is moving into assisted living and Tess needs a home. She has had a bit of a lapse with her house training because of her neglect. She loves to go for walks (fearful of city sidewalks & cars), but loves nature, chasing rabbits, watching TV and being a good companion. She is 45 lbs., sheds like a shepherd and is good with going to the groomer and vet. Her teeth were cleaned last year, and is in good health, except for one recent, wacky ... Rescue Me ID: 17-01-10-00547Shorty McMaxter (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Shorty. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 40 lbs. I was brought in to the pound, They said I was a stray and they had been calling me 'Max'... Well, later that day, it was dicovered that my owner had posted on a rehoming page trying to get rid of me... So yeah, the people who I thought loved me and cared about me brought me here to the pound and dumped me off without the courtesy of admitting I was their dog and giving the pound workers my history, so unfortunately, all the pound can tell you about me is what they have seen since I have been here at the pound. The day I first came in, I was afraid and boy did I ... (Read More)have a big attitude... Now that I have had time to settle in, I have been a very good boy. I will just need a family who will give me some time to adjust to them. I have been good with the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound. The posting my owner had made about me said I didn't like cats, so maybe a home without felines would be beneficcial for me. If you're looking for a cool looking, sweet little dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Our rescue does not go by a first come, first serve basis. We process the applications that come in, and choose the best home for each dog. However, we also do not hold dogs. They are ready to be adopted now. After a dog is adopted, we can then rescue another dog in need. Thank you for choosing a rescue dog.

Gizmo is a mammoth handsome guy who is looking for his forever home. Gizmo was surrendered by his previous owner when he could no longer afford to care for him. Gizmo is fun and loving, and at 80 lbs he is the world's biggest lap dog. He loves to be by your side and has tons of energy to wear off. He would be a great running partner! Gizmo is good with older children but he doesn't know his size and is too big for small children. He does NOT like cats and we will not adopt him to a home with cats for their safety.

Beautiful Leon....another sad story with this rescue. Leon is blind, and was left tied to a pole, in the hot sun with no food/water/protection until he was discovered several hours later. Our hearts hurt knowing what 'could' have happened to him. Thankfully, a shelter reached out to us as he was extremely depressed in the shelter, and we rescued him. This dog LOVES people, all people, kids to adults. One of the things we do with our rescues, is take them weekly to a nursing home here, to provide comfort to the residents, and Leon was a superstar. He has some quirks-he doesn't like to be hugged and will give off a low grumble, so for this ... (Read More)reason, adopters should not have young children. Even we forget sometimes since he's like a big old teddy bear. We also discovered when brushing him, his tail and his back end are off limits. Not sure why, but it got a reaction. Possibly, he's been beaten in this area and just reacts on instinct. Leon weighs nearly 100 lbs, and has never been leash trained, but we're working on that. But it does take some strength to walk him. He does have food/treat/personal space aggression with other animals, so he is best off as the only pet in your home. He is extremely smart, quickly learns his way around, walks slowly and carefully and learns his way quickly. We did have Leon evaluated by our rescue vet. He has mature cataracts in both eyes, so we are going to try and get this surgery preformed for him if possible. It is an over $6000 surgery, which we hope to get done pro bono by a benefactor or sponsor, or through some grants we've applied for. This could restore most of his sight. So, he is still up for adoption, with the understanding, that if we can get the surgery done, we will-most likely in the Columbus Oho area, so hopefully an adoptive home can be found nearer to this area. Leon is a great dog, loves people like no other, and needs a better home than the one that abandoned him. Indoor home only. (Less)

Cooper has been our family dog for 8 years. He is generally a great dog - but has always had a mean streak that comes out at other dogs every once in a while (maybe every other week)- especially around food or toys. We had twin baby boys and recently Cooper has attacked our other dogs, unprovoked ,right in front of our children. He has never actually hurt another dog but it is scary to watch. We believe a home with no animals or kids could be a nice home for an otherwise great dog. He is potty trained, crate trained, and we are sad to have to let him go. But we can't risk something happening to our kids if they somehow were in the middle ... (Read More)of these episodes. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Buddy Collins. I am 5 years old and I weigh about 50 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound by my owner. I was tied up outside and the flies were eating my ears. Literally. My ears were bloody, raw, infected and very very sore. My owners were given time to take me to the vet and they failed to do so, so when the girl from the pound came back out a second time, they ended up signing me over. I am a nice boy. I have had no training at all since I have been a puppy. I used to be a house dog when I was a puppy... but then I got big... so they tied me outside. I am a loving boy. I like to go for walks and spending time with my ... (Read More)people. I haven't been well socialized, so the people at the pound say they're not sure how I would be around young, rambunctious children, but I should be just fine with calm, older children. I will likely require some house training as I have been an outside dog for so long. I get along well with the other dogs that I have been around since coming in to the pound. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Honey & Peaches are two strays that I rescued about two years ago as very small puppies. These sisters were half starved and half frozen when I found them. Now they've turned in to very big girls! Unfortunately, I live in town and and don't have enough room for them to get the exercise they really need. I am also extremely worried about the little black lab that I also rescued because he is much smaller and I'm afraid he's going to be sesiously hurt or worse one of these days :( They love people and especially kids once they get to know someone, but would make great guard dogs. He came from another shelter which didn't want him because he was so scared, so we brought him to Second Chance to give him yet another chance.
