German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Logan is looking for a new home. He is very smart, and very loyal to my husband and I. He never runs away. Our yard is fenced in without a gate and he has never ran off. He always come to you immediately whenever you call his name. He can even open doors that open toward him and away from him. However, he does not care for small kids. We have two and he growls at them. He has never bit them. We used to have a female dog who he was very loving and loyal to, I am not sure how he would be with male dogs. We are not home enough to give him the attention he deserves.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

According to Mitchell's foster mom, he is a MAJOR SWEETHEART! He is a Golden Retriever/Shepherd mix but on the smaller side. He weighs about 45 lbs. He LOVES kids, playing with toys and running around. His foster family is working on basic obedience and walking properly on a leash. Mitchell appears to be house trained. He keeps his crate clean all night and so far, sleeps all night. He is nervous in new situations with dogs, cats, etc. so he piddles a little but that will change as his confidence grows. He is young and smart and wants to please. He is going to make his new family very happy. He will be available for adoption ... (Read More)once neutered and vetted. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-24-00232Elsa (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello. My name is Elsa. I'm about 1 year old and I weigh about 45 lbs. I was seized by the pound in November 2016. The pound has recently been granted custody of us all and we can now begin our well deserved search for loving families to join. We have all lived neglectful, abusive lives. but we can now move on with our lives. I am a shy little girl. It takes me a little time to warm up to strangers but once I know you, I am a really awesome dog. I am sweet and playful and very kind. I get along well with most other dogs. I should meet any new dogs I would live with prior to adoption just to make sure we get along okay. If you're ... (Read More)interested in possibly adopting me, please call or stop in to the pound so see if we would be a good match for each other. **SAME DAY ADOPTIONS WILL NOT APPLY TO ELSA OR ANY OF THE DOGS FROM THIS CASE. BACKGROUND CHECKS AND/OR HOME VISITS FOR THE ADOPTER MAY NEED DONE PRIOR TO ADOPTION. DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS CASE WITH THESE DOGS, WE WILL VERY CAREFULLY SCREEN POTENTIAL ADOPTERS TO FIND THE BEST SUITED HOME FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL DOG.** Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-24-00122Lana (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Malnourished,
 Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

Lana was rescued in El Paso, TX from a home with 52 other dogs of different species. She was approx. 3 years of age at the time we (my husband and I) adopted her in November 2016. She has no manners and refuses to listen to commands. My husband is now deployed overseas and I am unable to handle Lana, even with my parents help as I am living with them for the time being. I suffer from major depressive disorder as well as Crohn's disease. My own life is at risk because of the stress this dog causes me. I'm sure she will be a great dog to someone with time and love, but I just cannot offer that with my current state of mind deteriorating every ... (Read More)day. Some of her issues include: excessive hunger, coprophagia, house accidents, stealing of both food and non-food items to eat, stealing treats/toys from other dogs, refuses to come inside from outside, weight issues, massive bowel movements more than 4 times a day, digging, aggressive barking at anyone entering the home (even if she's already met them), aggressive barking at the children next door, nipping and biting of human fingers (expecting a treat?), does not know how to sit/stay/heel/etc. She also has a major jumping problem and has broken 2 baby gates (the third is on its way out) as well as the exterior of my dad's porch, that he built himself, and the wooden door in our kitchen. She has knocked over a porcelain pot belonging to my mother as she tried to climb over the baby gate into the kitchen. Lana also completely disregards the gate blocking the upstairs, she will either jump over it or push it push, where she then eats out of the trashcan in the bathroom and even stole medication from my mother. I have been told by multiple specialists that Lana May have EPI and needs to be tested. I am unable to afford that at this time. She needs a home that can afford to take care of her. Simply saying that you have another gsd is not a good credential for Lana. I am looking for serious inquiries only! Lana is okay on a leash and will go into her crate with no struggle. She enjoys snuggling on the couch, though she was never allowed on the furniture (she refuses to listen). I want to find Lana a home where she will be trained and treated accordingly. I am beside mysef, please help me to help her; she needs a loving home with a good trainer lined up. (Less)

Animal ID: 4Sterling (male)

SPECIAL NEEDS: HEARTWORM POSITIVE Sterling is a very handsome boy, who is super sweet and loves to be with people. He is on the calmer side and is very well mannered. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. ... (Read More)7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buddy is an extremely friendly and well behaved dog. Unlike your typical Akita/German Shepherd, he is great with children! He is very loving. He is crated at night and even likes to lie in his crate sometimes during the day. You say, 'go to bed Buddy' and he goes... I've left him in my house all day and he doesn't destroy or chew or mess up anything. He sits patiently before you feed him, but he does love to eat. He weighs about 40-45 lbs.     Meet Virginia! We believe she is approximately a two-year-old shepherd/boxer mix. She's a spunky pup found last week in downtown Dayton. Virginia loves car rides and snuggling and always wants to be around people. We are working on crate training, housebreaking, and walking on a leash. She likes going for walks! She gets along with other dogs. She chases the cat, but doesn't seem to want to hurt him- just play! Virginia loves attention and wants to be wherever her people are. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-15-00294Sasha (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Are you looking for a unique dog that will not only keep you on your toes but also keep you laughing? Well then Sasha is for you! Not only is she unique looking but her moves and abilities are almost cat-like. She is a young girl, probably no more than two years old, and so full of love and life. She is good with other dogs after proper introductions; cats are still up for debate. Sasha is kennel trained and 90% house trained. Her previous owner let her roam the neighborhood then abandoned her when he thought she was pregnant. Luckily a neighbor took pity on her and got her off the streets. Unfortunately the neighbor couldn't keep and ... (Read More)surrendered her to a shelter. When the shelter believed her to be pregnant, she was scheduled to be euthanized. Fate stepped in and Paw Patrol saved her beautiful soul. Needless to say, she was not pregnant. Sasha is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed. Sasha is very active and agile so needs a fenced yard with lots of toys and room to run and play. She hasn't been tested with kids but her foster family thinks she will be ok with older kids that will play with her. She has learned so many manners since coming to us. Sasha sits and stays on command, waits to eat until told to do so, and goes to her kennel when told it is time for bed or her foster family needs to go out. As you can see, she loves to cuddle with her foster brother or chill out in the recliner. Also, after a long day of puppy playing, Sasha loves to cuddle with her favorite humans. Of all the things she can do, her cuddles are the best thing of all. Sasha's adoption fee is $175.All of our animals are vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered before being adopted.     Hello. My name is Cora. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 43 lbs. I was seized by the pound, along with 15 other dogs, including my mom, Sally and my dad, Scooby, due to extreme neglect. Although my parents lived in the house, my 12 siblings ( my littermates and from other litters) and I were not so lucky. We lived outside. We were contained in electric wire pens with inadequate shelter. Only a few of us had water (from the rain) to drink and none of us had food available. We had garbage strewn through our pens. Many of the neighbors said that we were badly abused by our owner. We were beat and had rocks thrown at us when we would ... (Read More)bark. We were all very unsocialized, shy and we proved to be very hard to catch during the seizure. Once we were all captured and knew we were safe, we have transformed in to happy, loving and very sweet dogs. I can still be shy at times, but I just need socialization and a little reassurance. Because I lived outside, I will still need to be trained, housebroken and crate trained. I am already a great girl, gaining tons of confidence and learning exactly how to be a dog. With the right family, I am going to be a truly wonderful dog. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. My friend Scooby and I didn't have it quite as bad as our 'kids' did, as we were house dogs. They all lived outside in horrid electric fence pens with less than adequate housing, nasty water, barely being fed and garbage strewn throughout their pens. Because our owner never tried to claim us after we were seized, we were held the appropriate hold time, have been vetted and we're now available for adoption. I am a super sweet and very loving dog. I am extremely happy to have been rescued. I ... (Read More)have spent my life being neglected and having litter after litter of puppies. Needless to say, I am more than excited to begin my new life with a new family. I am going to make someone a really fantastic new family member. I have so much love to give. I get along well with all of the other dogs I have been around here at the pound. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. Animal ID: 17-04-27-00054BARNEY (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

'BARNEY' is the sweetest, gentlest, best disposition dog one could every meet. Darn close to 'perfect'. This handsome, 3-4 yr old, 50 lb. German Shepherd mix was rescued from a very high kill pound where he was on the 'euth list' with no hope. He smiles, wags his tail, gently sidles up to you for attention, and as you can see in the pictures, loves to ride as co-pilot in the car. Barney doesn't have a mean bone in his body & loves other dogs; especially those of an equally gentle & sweetly silly nature. Barney is a treasure and would be a delightful companion for a single adult of any age. Barney could also be a terrific family dog in a ... (Read More)home that is not too loud & boisterous. If you are interested in seeing video of Barney, please email the rescue at luvablefurryfriendsrescue@gmail.com and we will be happy to send a few to you. Barney is 'heart worm positive' and undergoing treatment for this highly & successfully treatable condition. Due to this treatment Barney is not presently neutered but will be once done with HW fast kill treatment and cleared to be neutered by Veterinarian. Barney has been de-wormed, is current on vaccinations, on monthly heart worm preventative, crate-trained, house-trained and micro-chipped. All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., probiotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition. German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adult Men Only
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Klaus is a very handsome large solid black male. He came to me over a year ago. He has become increasingly aggressive during this time. I can no longer keep him due to this aggressive behavior. I am the only one who can be around him at this time, but when he first came he was good with everyone. I would need vet references from anyone wanting him and these references may change the adoption fee. He needs to be placed with a strong male figure with experience in handling aggressive dogs. I really don't want to see him go, but it is best for all concerned at this time.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We are currently looking for a good home for one of our dogs, Joe. He is about 3.5 years old and we've had him for over 2 years. I believe he is part beagle/German Shepherd but not 100% sure as he was a rescue when we got him. He's a fantastic, lovable dog but we have another dog and Joe and him do not always see eye to eye and don't want to see either getting hurt. Joe is great with our 1.5 year old son and all the other kids he's been around. He's a cuddler for sure. Hate to see him go but he will make a great addition to a family. Cats, frogs, and other dogs aren't particularly on Joe's wishlist. He's been mostly an outside dog ... (Read More)but we do let him in the house and has never had an accident.     Hazel is an awesome 7-year old Shepherd mix. Apparently someone put a harness on her and let her grow into it, so now, she has scars on both sides. She was originally adopted from Muskingum County pound. She has a microchip but interestingly, no one can get in touch with the owners. Even with that said, Hazel still trusts humans and is absolutely as sweet as they come. She is house trained, crate trained, good with other dogs, cats and children. Hazel was tested for heart worm, and we found out that she is HW positive. She will require treatment which the rescue will take care of. Animal ID: 403309Chuckles (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chuckles - AVAIL! :) M, 8 y/o, 78 lbs Mastiff / Shepherd mix Neutered Chuckles respects strong but fair leadership so he'd be best with either a man or a woman who can give him that leadership. In return he is very loyal, protective, and soft-hearted to those he trusts, all about belly rubs, back scratches, hugs, and kisses! Chuckles knows the commands: sit, lay down, stay, come, and heel. He's a thick, goofy boy, short & stout and has a lot of pep and vitality. He loves to wander the backyard, go on daily mile-long walks, and even keeps up on jogs! But he seeks indoor companionship the most. He is crate trained and can be ... (Read More)crated when you're not home or overnight. He would be best in a one-on-one relationship but can be co-located with other dogs as well with proper supervision. Not recommended for homes with cats/small animals. SPECIAL OFFER: Thank you to AlphA and Omega Dog Training who has graciously provided in-home obedience training for Chuckles! They will provide 1 hour of training to whomever adopts Chuckles to show you how to lead with the verbal and visual commands that Chuckles has learned to follow. HISTORY: Chuckles ended up at the kill-shelter after a life of neglect. He was abused with collars so embedded in his neck that they had to be removed and treated by a vet. We showed him humans can be kind and gentle. When we rescued Chuckles he was drastically underweight, heartworm positive, had dental issues, and was certain to be destroyed. We had him examined and treated by our hospital veterinarians and our excellent fosters have been providing great care, nutrition, and interaction daily.     Leon-5-6 year old, blind rottie/shepherd mix Very special boy-don't let his blindness discourage you because he has no clue he is special and different. Above smart and intelligient, he learns and navigates new surroundings quickly. Completely house trained, walks delicately and carefully till he learns his way, good with dogs that ignore him and leave him alone-ie, senior dogs. 100 + pounds of love and affection. Loves attenton but does have sensitive spots so no young children. His tail, areas on his back end seem to cause him stress, and he loves hugs but you have give him time to get to this point. Completely vetted, house broken, has ... (Read More)never, and never will be crated, quiet, and loves meal time and treat time. Leon is a live and let live type furkid. Probably more deserving of a loving home than any of our rescues. He does not like being picked up-as in going bye bye-so you need a van or suv to guide him in via a leash. And he is strong as can be on a leash so if you plan to walk him, he needs some work. Please don't overlook this big, beautiful boy. He is so special and so incredibly sweet.
