Animal ID: XenaXena (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Xena is a female shepherd (possibly Belgian Shepherd), 7 years old. I took her in as a foster through a friend, she had been in the same home for 6 years before her loving owner had life circumstances that required him to surrender her. She is crate trained and well behaved, but does not seem to like some small dogs. I currently do rescue for numerous small dogs, so she doesn't fit in with my lifestyle, but is otherwise a good dog. She has had some skin condition issues, but has been on medication and continuous flea meds and has had a dramatic improvement. She also takes thyroid medication daily, but this is an easy and inexpensive ... (Read More)medication that only requires periodic blood tests. Xena is pretty mellow and likes to nap during the day, but also enjoys time with people and playing with toys. She's a little crazy about the vacuum cleaner and tries to attack it (until she is told 'No!'). She's a sweet girl and obedient and needs a quality home. An application and a home reveiw will be required. (Less)

Pepper is a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix. Great with people and most dogs. He lives with small dogs, currently, and with Maxine- a 3-year-old female Rottweiler. These two were raised together, so we prefer to place them together, if at all possible. They were surrendered by their owner since he is moving. Please let us know if you are interested in adopting, or even fostering, one of our dogs.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Beautifully sleek and cuddly, LUCY is a young lab/shepherd mix puppy who is currently with a foster home awaiting her FUREVER home with some lucky family! She has the longer ears and snout of the German Shepherd and the lovely shiny black fur of the lab making her an irresistable combo of beauty and brains! Lucy is a fully-vetted (spayed, shots, preventatives, micro-chipped) approximately 1 year old lab mix. She is currently in foster with San Antonio Pets Alive. She is full of energy and does best with a similar-sized, high-energy friend to play with and lots of things to chew! She gets along well with other friendly dogs. Lucy is good ... (Read More)on leash, crate-trained, and house-trained. She is a beautiful girl and very affectionate. She particularly loves men and will shamelessly ask for belly rubs. She needs an active lifestyle to be happy, and is not a couch potato. The ideal owner will be a homeowner, who owns another dog and is committed to walking or running with Lucy daily. To make her a great dog she should also attend some formal obedience classes. Lucy seems to really like water too. She has been in foster care with children, small to very large dogs, and is good with both. She is not recommended for cats as she will chase them and bugs them more than they like to be bugged! Lucy is a bit hyper for very-young kids, but would do fine with older ones. Please email Street Savvy Dog Rescue at saxandthat@comcast.net for an adoption form! RESCUED IS OUR FAVORITE BREED! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-07-00149PANTHA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

PANTHA was saved from BARC Animal Shelter in Houston on 24th February 2015. I had been up during the early hours catching up on paperwork and decided to send the rescue hold on her before I went to bed. It is very lucky that I did as this is the response I got from the shelter first thing the following morning: A1298048 was scheduled to be PTS today but I have placed a hold for your group. Below are notes from our behaviorist on the dog. We are full to capacity in our evaluation building so if possible to pick up today by 530pm it will be appreciated. If you cant today then as early as 9am on Tuesday is ok. Please confirm you can pull ... (Read More)A1298048. Notes from Behaviorist at BARC Animal Shelter, Houston - 22 February 2015 This dog is very fearful, but likes people and dogs. She may be sound-sensitive, or just extremely stressed at BARC. She does not cooperate with having a leash put on, but can be conditioned into it quickly. She eats chicken in her kennel, but once out does not. She will walk with me on a leash, but does not want to go through doors - but can be coaxed. She does not want to go outside, mostly wants to go back to her kennel - but will calm and explore after some time out in the hall. She readily goes up to people and solicits affection, but she is too big and too scared to go to Adoptions - she has not been defensive yet, but she is too close to defense to put in adoptions with all the excitement there. Since being at the rescue PANTHA has been a different dog than has been described at the shelter, which is quite common since German Shepherd Dogs do not do well in shelter environments. PANTHA is comfortable with the other dogs of all ages and sizes here at the rescue. She is extremely affectionate and likes to be close by my side whenever she can - although that is true for all the other German Shepherd Dogs we have in rescue also. PANTHA eats with the other dogs, she sleeps with the other dogs and has not shown any fear or aggression on any level. PANTHA is very gentle and well mannered, she doesn't jump up, she walks nicely on a leash. All dogs benefit from basic and advanced obedience training with their new families. This not only helps with bonding, but sets boundaries and expectations. It also allows human and dog to learn each others body languages and personalities which is key to a happy life together. We do not have cats in the rescue so we cannot comment on how she will act around them. Although she hasn't been around small children here at the rescue, I do not see any problems due to her gentle demeanor, but this will of course depend on how the children respect and treat her. PANTHA will benefit from a family that is active and understands the mental and physical needs of the German Shepherd Dog. Who have the time to take her to different places so she can explore and take in the sights, smells and sounds of the world. PANTHA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and heart-worm tested negative. She has a date of birth of approximately 23rd February 2012 and at the time or rescue weighed 70 pounds. PANTHA is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $350 Transport - West Coast Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast, raveling up I5 as far as Everett, WA (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). This is a private company and their transport fee (which is paid directly to them) are $150, $200, $250 depending on the crate size. Most of our dogs will be the $200 or $250 crate size. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-06-00214CHUPI (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

CHUPI was saved from Fort Worth Animal Care Services on 28th February 2015. CHUPI had been suffering from Demodex mange and skin infections. His feet were badly swollen and infected causing them to bleed when he walked. He was prescribed antibiotics and has been making great recovery. When CHUPI first came to rescue he was cautious being around the other dogs but this was more out of worry he would get his feet trodden on and so he was happy to hang out in the XL crate in the bedroom, or lie beside where ever I was. Over time with the healing he is venturing out a lot more and enjoys being outside with the other dogs, although still edging ... (Read More)slightly on the side of caution and not yet getting involved with the rambunctious playing around. CHUPI does great in the car and all transporters fell in love with him. He is a large boy and still has a good amount of weight to gain, but he is very gentlye with it. CHUPI is fine amongst the other dogs and has shared his crate with a small Norwich/Yorkshire Terrier mix and was happy to have her snuggle up to him. We do NOT have cats in the rescue so are unable to say how he is with cats. CHUPI doesn't have any training but he is very laid back and loving and I believe he would learn very quickly. CHUPI needs a family that understands both the mental and physical needs of the German Shepherd Dog and are able to provide him with lots of exercise, which is a lot more than just throwing a ball in the back-yard, he needs lots of stimulation, and going to different places and letting him take in the sights, sounds and smells the world has is a great way to do this, along training! CHUPI does need a family that is able to spend time and work with him on basic and advanced training. This not only helps form a stronger bond, but also allows boundaries and expectations to be set and for both human and dog to learn each others body language and personalities. CHUPI is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 20 February 2012 and at the time of rescue weighed 75.4 pounds. CHUPI is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. Transport - West Coast Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast, raveling up I5 as far as Everett, WA (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

TACO was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 18th December 2014, with severe demodex mange and skin infections, his feet were very swollen and bleeding. TACO came to rescue and started treatment and over time he started to do really well. Initially he would stay in his crate that was in the bedroom, but that was more as he didn't want the other dogs to stand on his very sore feet. Over time and healing TACO started to socialize more with the rest of the dogs and the more he healed the more he played. On 17th February he was neutered, he still has a good amount of hair to grow, but it is coming along great. TACO is a very sweet, ... (Read More)affectionate boy, when he has gained all his weight and fully recovered, he will truly be a magnificent sable boy. He loves playing with the other dogs, he is getting very active and would benefit from an active family who will be willing to take him on lots of adventures to different places. TACO will need basic and hopefully advanced training with his new family - this not only helps set down boundaries and expectations, but allows both dog and family learn each others personalities and body-language. TACO is going to be a big boy and will need plenty of exercise, both mental and physical. TACO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has a date of birth of around 16 December 2013 and at the time of his neuter surgery in February 2015 he weighed 59.0 pounds. TACO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00210ARIELA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ARIELA was saved from Companion Animal Alliance, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was scheduled to be killed and we managed to arrange flights with Pilots n Paws to fly her to safety at the rescue in Devine, on 13th February 2015. ARIELA did have a skin condition where she had tested negative for sarcoptic mange, but the vet wanted to treat her as a precaution and has since cleared up! At the rescue ARIELA has been great, she is a very sweet, affectionate girl who is always smiling. She comes up to be fussed on, but is not demanding and imposing. She gets on great with the other dogs and has been happy to play with them all. She is still very ... (Read More)'puppy' and loves to play hide and seek with shoes! ARIELA is hoping to find an active family that will take her to lots of interesting places and let her take in the sights and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from at least basic obedience, but hopefully advanced training also. This not only helps to lay down the boundaries and expectations, but also helps to build a bond and more of an understanding of personalities and body language. ARIELA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She did test positive for heart-worm disease but we are hoping to get her treated by the end of February 2015. Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00160SKYLAR (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SKYLAR was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th February 2015, the day he was due to be killed. SKYLAR had severe demodex mange and red in-flammed skin that is being treated and healing well. SKYLAR at the time of rescuing him was not leash trained and was very fearful of the leash, we think maybe he had been tied up outside and neglected. SKYLAR came over fearful and shy on initial meeting, but as soon as he met the dogs his confidence was re-gained, his tail was up and he started running around happily to be with his own kind. Over the first few days SKYLAR was trying to show dominance on the younger dogs, but was in no ... (Read More)way aggressive, it was more of him trying to find his place, also he had only been neutered the day before. SKYLAR does have high energy and likes to be running around playing rather than sitting relaxing, he will definitely need an active family. SKYLAR will need at minimum basic and hopefully advanced training, This not only sets the guidelines and expectations out for him, but helps a bond be formed and a clearer understand for both him and family of body language and personalities. SKYLAR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He had tested positive for heart-worm disease which the rescue will be getting treated around the end of February. SKYLAR at time of rescue weighed around 40 pounds and has been given an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013 (I do however, think he might be slightly younger as he acts very young - but I am not a vet!) SKYLAR is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 We will be happy to process and approve adopters before his heartworm treatment so as soon as he is fully healthy he can go on to start his new life.     CHACHA was saved from Animal Care Services, San Antonio with her two siblings who were all set to be killed, as their 3 day hold had expired. They came into rescue and were a bundle of energy. CHACHA is a sweet girl who gets on great with all the other dogs, she loves to play and run around. She can be a little aloof at first with other humans, but after some nice time and reassurance she will soon warm up and relax and learn to trust. She loves to sleep at the end of the bed and give me kisses in the morning. Cha-Cha gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes. We do not have cats in the rescue, however, with a little time and ... (Read More)patience should she have any drive it could be worked through, she is very smart and intelligent. Cha-Cha has a date of birth of 18 February 2013, she is spayed, rabies, up to date on her vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. CHACHA's adoption donation is $170 Although located in Texas we are using Paws without Borders., a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). This is a private company and their transport fee (which is paid directly to them) is $200 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

BELLE was born on 14th December 2012. Her mother a Pure Bred German Shepherd Dog. Sadly the pups had distemper and 2 of the siblings were lost. All pups received the distemper serum and antibiotics and did well. BELLE however, went on to have neurological symptoms and was rushed to Westheimer Animal Hospital, Bellaire, TX for Spinal Tap Surgery. Thankfully the surgery was 100% success, the distemper was stopped from spreading and because the neurological symptoms were caught almost immediately there are no neurological side effects of distemper symptoms. One downside is that BELLE has lost almost all of her teeth. This does not hinder her ... (Read More)in anyway at all and she happily eats with all the other dogs, takes treats and bones too. She can just look a bit goofy with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth - but a very small price to pay for fighting and battling the very deadly DISTEMPER disease. BELLE, is very affectionate, sweet and loving young girl with a very gentle laid back temperament. Of course she loves to play and run around, but generally she is just happy to be close by and when she looks at you she looks directly into your soul. BELLE knows how to use the dog door, and does go outside. I have not kept them in a crate they have had free roam, and come and go as they please. BELLE would love to find a family of her own who won't mind her having no teeth and can love her with all their hearts, she is an absolute SURVIVOR. BELLE is spayed, rabies, up to date on her vaccines, de-wormed, she tested negative for heart-worm and the 3 tick diseases and she is micro-chipped. BELLE weighs around 70 pounds. BELLE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $70. Although located in Texas we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). This is a private company and their transport fee (which is paid directly to them) are $150, $200, $250 depending on the crate size. Most of our dogs will be the $200 or $250 crate size.
