Animal ID: BearBear (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Bear, and I am about 3 years old, and weight about 90 pounds... I am a big active playful guy that would love to be with you, riding, hiking, camping. or going for walks. I do not pull hard on a leash... I love to play with other dogs, but I do play kind of rough.. Like most GSD's, a grain free diet would be best for me. I adore my squeeky toy, and like my chewies, and to play with my ball and other toys. I would do best with someone that is active, and has time to spend with me. I came to Oregon on a transport van with lots of other pups from a High- kill shelter in CA... The Shelter I came from, was very stressful. I am so ... (Read More)happy here, but need lots more love, and a home of my own. If you might be my forever new family, Please email k9kids4adoption@gmail.com for an application, and tell us a little about the home you have for me, where you are located, and a phone number would also be nice... We will forward a copy of our adoption application. Application, a great home with a 6 foot fenced yard, and my adoption fee of $300 is required. I will come with my collar leash, micro-chipped, and all the love you can stand....I am waiting. Until we have received your completed application we can not arrange a meeting. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Simba is a fairly young Lab/Shepherd mix who's start to this world wasn't too nice but you can't tell it by how wonderful and loving this boy is. His previous owner walked him into a certain death situation, knowing his only way out was through a rescue. He was very thin, had a contusion on his side and hair rubbed off to bear skin on his neck. Yet he still wants love and snuggles. He is a little leery of men as he should be since they didn't treat him right, but does warm up after knowing you won't hurt him. He is definitely a ladies man and gets along with most other dogs. There is one at his foster home that they have a mutual dislike for ... (Read More)each other so we will make sure that he gets properly introduced if you have other dogs. He would not do well on a ranch since he thinks chasing goats and probably sheep is fun and that would get him in a lot of trouble. But if you want a fun dog that will love you and your family forever, this is the boy. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-14-00170Nala (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Miss Nala has been in the shelter since May, when she came in with 8 puppies! She weighs 46 lbs and is about 2 years old. She nursed them all, was a wonderful mother and now she is happily enjoying a break from motherhood :) This girl is HAPPY and BOUNCY and wants nothing more than to play with you! She can be choosy with which other dogs she likes, but for the most part is very polite. Nala is loyal, friendly, and would love an active home. Available at the Josephine County Animal Shelter, 1420 Brookside Blvd. 1.5 miles off I-5. in Merlin. Oregon. hours: Monday -Friday 10-4:30pm Saturday 10-4pm. PLEASE READ ENTIRE NOTATIONS BELOW. The ... (Read More)most common question is 'Good with Cats?' If we know has lived with cats or farm animals will be stated above in biography. Otherwise- we don't know. If you inquire by email- please tell us about you, your family, your yard, other animals, children, and your expectations of your new pet and what your new pet can expect from you. When you do so, we can better address your inquiry. You can make application via the Shelter Website: http://www.jocoshelter.com/#!adoptions/c6mv copy into your url. Shelter number 541 474-5458 for status of availability as some may have been adopted since this post, and about any pending spay/neuter surgery if noted as sometimes spay/neuter appointment may be sooner if a cancellation is available. Dogs noted as a Great American Shelter Dog are noted as such because we are not sure of the breed and can only give out best guess. See more at: www.savethewhiskers.org Alternate Contact Raleigh@savethewhiskers.org or text 541 660 6578 name of dog. It is always nice if you send an inquiry about a specific adoptable guest via email to tell us about you, your family and other pets, your yard, and most importantly, your expectations of your new family member so we can answer your questions appropriately as best as possible. Please, if you email an inquiry, please understand that these animals are in the shelter for a variety of reasons: Their lives are upside down maybe because owner died, they got lost, were abandoned, owner lost home or had a life event that left their pet in need of a new home. We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! But they need homes and families who will bring them back to knowing what family is! Puppies: Please understand they are puppies; not potty trained; not good or bad with kids, dogs, cats. They are pliable puppies ready for you to imprint good manners, social skills and training. You are encouraged to follow up with training after they are finished with shot series and or at the direction of your veterinarian. A happy healthy well socialized puppy is a happy family! You may be asked to make a refundable deposit for spay/neutering. Inquire at the Shelter. General Adoption Fees for Dog: Adult dogs and puppies- $125, Senior dogs 7 and over $50. Veterans are half price / $62.50 with presentation of government issued VA ID. For Josephine County fee includes first year licensing. Please visit the shelter or if need special arrangements for meet and greet please email me. If you have a dog- encourage you to bring also. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography! Animal ID: PalpaliPalpali (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Palpali. In the Klakamas Indian language Palpali means white. I go mostly by Polly but my master has many nicknames for me; Pollywog, Lollypop to name a few. I was born August 14, 2014 so I will 2 years old soon, I'm spayed and current on my shots till Aug 2018. I have a lot of energy, I like the water, I don't run away but I like to explore. I listen but I'm stubborn. Currently I live on a farm, and that's my problem, I like to hunt birds, turkeys, ducks and chickens. So I need a fenced yard or a nice lead and run. I love hiking; I'm great with kids and most dogs. I've never really went to dog parks, so I'm not that social with ... (Read More)other dogs, hikes in remote areas are my preference. My owner was very lenient with me and I just need stricter training. I'm housebroken but am use to having a doggie door. I need some acreage or large yard. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-15-00426Belle (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Strengths: It feels strange posting Belle on a rescue website. She has had a great puppyhood with loving care and support. She has never been neglected, nor abused. Belle is the most beautiful white German Shepherd ever. She weighs about 70 pounds, has a thick, bright white coat (medium-length) and brown eyes. She has an athletic build, with a straight back and a solid gait. Belle has a sweet, loving, sensitive disposition. She loves to play with all dogs, big and small alike. She is shy at first and tends to take a more submissive role, which helps her get along well with a variety of dog personality types. Belle loves the dog ... (Read More)park. She is shy for a few seconds when she encounters the first dog upon arriving at the dog park, and then she plays and plays. She has been exercised and socialized daily, and has completed puppy kindergarten, plus a 10 week intensive obedience training as well as a 3 week intensive training at the home of a trainer who specializes in German Shepherds. She gets 2-3 walk/runs per day and we work on training her to heel, sit, down, stay, leave it and come. She loves to run, play fetch, and tackle basketballs and soccer balls. Loves to learn new things and catches on quickly. She is smarter than many humans! She loves tennis balls, Chuck-it, squeaky toys and Nylabones. If her humans are relaxing around the house, she will lie quietly with a toy and play, but she is all play if you want to run around with her outside. Belle likes to snuggle and have tummy rubs. She is used to being handled and will let you look in her ears, at her teeth, and trim her nails. She is a great running companion, loves hiking, and has learned to carry a light backpack when she is taken backpacking. She thinks the beach is fabulous! She is housetrained and will ring a bell or bark to let you know she wants to go outside. Belle has registered AKC parents (Belle hasn't been registered yet). She was spayed at 6 months, is up-to- date on all shots, and has been microchipped. She would do well in a household of one or more adults who also have another dog. She builds trust more easily when someone has dog with them. Challenges: Belle has a timid, fearful nature when encountering strangers when she is out on a walk on leash. She tolerates some people and will bark and lunge at others. She doesn't like strangers to approach her or make a great deal of eye contact with her. She has great difficulty feeling at ease around strangers in our house and will bark loudly and rush at people both in the house and when they enter the backyard. She needs to be introduced to people who have entered the house or yard on leash and corrected when she barks at them. She needs to have people in her immediate family around her when strangers are moving about the house. She is fearful of children and has little experience with them. She will chase cats, so a cat-free household would be best. Her fearfulness has been stressful for us as a family. Despite our efforts to train her, she is still so fearful of strangers that it makes it hard for us to have visitors in our very social household, take her to campgrounds, go hiking, etc. She would do best with adults who can continue to work on her training and who have a quiet place for her to be when there are visitors. It absolutely breaks our hearts to have to find her another home. She is such a sweet, fun, and exceptionally intelligent dog. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Dudley is about 5-years-old and, as you can see, enjoys making himself comfortable! He loves people (especially when they give him belly rubs) and gets along with most dogs as long as they are not dominant males. Like most Rotties, he's stubborn and head-strong. Dudley needs a good leader to keep boundaries intact. He would be good with older children. He had surgery at the beginning of May to repair cruciate (knee) ligaments on both rear legs. He is now ready to be adopted. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and is microchipped. He is located in Astoria and can be met there now for a deposit, or in Portland around mid-June for ... He is a 4 years young German Shepherd Dog whose interests include cuddling, walking, hiking, and carrying around anything he can find with his mouth. He loves having toys to play with, so his new home will need to provide him with his own toys, bones, playtime, and some training to keep his mind and body healthy. This sweet boy is house trained, is somewhat leashed trained (better with a leader), has a few basic commands down, he gets along well with people, children, and some dogs. He has a prey drive so he nips cats ... (Read More)and small dogs. Banks likes to cuddle with you or lay down with you, wherever you may be or whatever you may be doing. He is a lover, not a fighter! He is a very sweet and goofy dog. Mr Banks is always one to share his toys with you and get you interested in what he finds interesting. Banks will be happiest when he can be a part of his person's daily activities. His family will need to be sure that Banks feels like he is part of a close knit group. He is neutered, micro chipped, vaccinated, licensed and has a complete health workup. Mr Banks is still growing his fur on his body from the neglect he was rescued from. Banks received two recessive genes from his inbreeding parents. One is partial albinism and the second is slight gigantism. Due to Banks being left in a backyard for his whole life, he has not had opportunity to be socialized properly. This leaves him over excited about meeting other dogs that some dogs find this frightening or threatening. He will need more work with introductions. He will go home with his new family with all his medical records and DNA test results. Are you looking to add a big, handsome, active, smart, loving boy to your family? What about a social companion ready for any adventure with you? Come see Mr Banks! He is available for adoption through the Miss Gabriel Foundation. A $250 Adoption fee applies. She is a 5 years young German Shepherd Dog mix whose interests include cuddling, belly rubs and short walks or short hikes. She loves mental stimulation so her new family will need to provide her some training to keep her mind and body healthy. She has more fun at being a fun police than going out and being playful; although she has been known to be silly at times with some dogs. This sweet girl is house trained, is leashed trained, has a few basic commands down, she gets along well with people, children, dogs, ... (Read More)and cats. She does not seem to have any prey drive. Anna likes to cuddle with you or lay down with you, wherever you may be or whatever you may be doing. She is a lover, not a fighter! She is a very sweet dog. Anna will be happiest when she can be a part of her person's daily activities. Her family will need to be sure that Anna feels like she is part of a close knit group. She is spayed, micro chipped, vaccinated, licensed and has a complete health workup. Miss Anna is still growing her fur on her body from the neglect she was rescued from.     Street Savvy Dog Rescue, a nonprofit corporation and pending 501(c)3 is in search of a kind, knowledgeable and POSITIVE TRAINING METHOD trainer who is interested in adopting MAX, a 3 year old PROJECT DOG! Max is approximately 3 years of age, weighs 45-50 lbs, is a handsome black and tan Kelpie! Max has many good attributes including: he is SUPER RESPONSIVE to training, is crate trained, he's treat motivated and he gets along well with a cat that he currently lives with. He loves to chase a ball and retrieve it! He is fun and energetic! Max needs an owner/trainer who is willing to work with him on an ongoing basis with POSITIVE TRAINING ... (Read More)METHODS ONLY (no prong collars, E collars, shock collars, citronella spray are allowed or tolerated within our rescue). All empirical evidence points to POSITIVE TRAINING METHODS having the best end result for animal training (just as it is does with people)! Max needs to wear a muzzle while around others and needs to be the kind of dog that lives at his human's house and doesn't go places, just exercises and uses his brain in the house and in the backyard/on property. He has SO MUCH POTENTIAL and has received basic obedience training, he's crate trained and he's VERY treat motivated. He loves learning through the use of FRESH PET wet food or cheese. We worked with him this week on scent training and he was learning it very quickly. Max could be a fantastic dog for that person wanting to give back to the rescue community and to a special dog who needs the love, time and commitment that he so deserves. Please text me at 503 208 142.THANK YOU AND KEEP CALM AND RESCUE ON! Max's adoption fee is $50 and includes muzzle and leash. We can even loan you a crate for the next month or so if needed! (Less)
