Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maple is a sweet little girl pup who lived through hell in the short 8 months of her life. Her previous owner abused her. In spite of that she always has a smile and is very loving. She gets scared at times, but when she knows she is safe her beautiful personality shines. She is doing great on housetraining and learning her manners. Maple is very beautiful, kind hearted, playful, and very smart. Very much a pleaser. She loves other dogs and is good with older, gentle children, because younger children's energy and loud noises can still scare her. We rescued Lobo from a kill shelter in CA. He was surrendered by his family when they lost their home. They said he is a great family dog. Our foster can't say enough good things about him.     London is a 2 year old purebread German Shepherd. She loves to go on runs and adventures. She loves playing with kids and adults. If you have a toy, she's there to play. She is good with most big dogs. She does need time to get used to them, but then they are best friends. If you are seeking to adopt your first dog and love to be outdoors, she will be your dog! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Georgia! I'm a sweetheart of a hound mix who is hoping to join a new family. Shelter staff thinks I may be 1 year old and I weigh 72lbs. I'm super duper friendly and quite the social butterfly--I love all people, even kids! I was adopted about a month and a half ago, but came back because I just cannot seem to resist the urge to jump fences...so I am looking for a home who can keep my in an enclosed kennel, or supervise me when I'm outside doing my favorite houndy things: sniffing, exploring, and playing! I also looove other dogs! Available at the Josephine County Animal Shelter, 1420 Brookside Blvd. 1.5 miles off I-5. in Merlin. ... (Read More)Oregon. hours: Monday -Friday 10-4:30pm Saturday 10-4pm. http://www.jocoshelter.com/ copy into your url follow instructions ... click on PET ADOPTIONS and scroll to adoption application. With few exceptions Dogs are current on vaccinations, rabies, spay or neutered, and microchipped upon adoption PLEASE READ ENTIRE NOTATIONS BELOW. The most common question is 'Good with Cats?' If we know has lived with cats or farm animals will be stated above in biography. Otherwise- we don't know. If you inquire by email- please tell us about you, your family, your yard, other animals, children, and your expectations of your new pet and what your new pet can expect from you. When you do so, we can better address your inquiry. Shelter number 541 474-5458 for status of availability as some may have been adopted since this post, and about any pending spay/neuter surgery if noted as sometimes spay/neuter appointment may be sooner if a cancellation is available. Dogs noted as a Great American Shelter Dog are noted as such because we are not sure of the breed and can only give out best guess. See more at: www.savethewhiskers.org Alternate Contact Raleigh@savethewhiskers.org or text 541 660 6578 name of dog. It is always nice if you send an inquiry about a specific adoptable guest via email to tell us about you, your family and other pets, your yard, and most importantly, your expectations of your new family member so we can answer your questions appropriately as best as possible. Please, if you email an inquiry, please understand that these animals are in the shelter for a variety of reasons: Their lives are upside down maybe because owner died, they got lost, were abandoned, owner lost home or had a life event that left their pet in need of a new home. We don't always know how they will get along with all dogs, all children. Some won't be a perfect family member right away! They will need love, patience, a strong owner who will let them know what is expected of them and what they can expect from their new family. It may take an afternoon or it may take a week or so! But they need homes and families who will bring them back to knowing what family is! Puppies: Please understand they are puppies; not potty trained; not good or bad with kids, dogs, cats. They are pliable puppies ready for you to imprint good manners, social skills, and training. You are encouraged to follow up with training after they are finished with shot series and or at the direction of your veterinarian. A happy healthy well socialized puppy is a happy family! You may be asked to make a refundable deposit for spay/neutering. Inquire at the Shelter. General Adoption Fees for Dog: Adult dogs and puppies- $125, Senior dogs 7 and over $50. Veterans are half price / $62.50 with presentation of government issued VA ID. For Josephine County fee includes first year licensing. Please visit the shelter or if need special arrangements for meet and greet please email me. If you have a dog- encourage you to bring also. Staff may be unable to answer calls right away, so you may contact me via email if you cannot get to shelter right away! You are encouraged to make your best effort to go during normal business hours. Note: Often times we are asked 'what about cats'?' Please be advised that we cannot guarantee a dog's behavior with a cat; sometimes the dog is fine with a cat- but cat not so happy about his canine intruder! If we know emphatically that a dog could take issue with a cat, livestock or chickens- will be stated in body of biography!     Meet Betty. She is one and a half years old. Betty is an amazing runner and loves to chase balls and bring them back right away! A perfect day for Betty includes chasing the ball at a soccer field, running around 1000 acres and chasing sticks, and working on tricks and training. She's extremely intelligent and loves to learn.     Hi everybody, my name is Scout and I'm a super sweet guy. I was rescued from the Clackamas County animal shelter and am doing great in my temporary foster home with another female German Shepherd. I love to play with my foster sister and I just love all people including children. While at the shelter, I had a bladder stone removed and have recovered during my stay in my foster home. I'm easy to please and I thrive on human attention. My biggest fault is I really don't like small critters, pesky cats, or small yappy dogs. I've been taught to chase those types away. I do get along with other medium and large dogs, both male and female. My ... (Read More)adoption fee includes my neutering, rabies shot, vaccines, 1 month supply of Proin, (bladder support), 1 bag of dog food, collar and leash. My ideal home would have a large fenced yard or property to run on, a doggy playmate large enough to wrestle with me, a retired or work-at-home owner, a doggy door, a warm bed, and lots and lots of affection. Is that too much to ask for a sweet guy like me? I would give you much love and devotion in return. If I sound like a canine companion you'd like to meet, please email my rescue. I will be excited to finally have a home and loving forever family to call my own. I'm waiting by the front door to meet you! (Less)

Due to illness of owner this dog must be rehomed. She is a good dog housebroken stays off furniture and lives with 3 cats and one other dog. She is a good watchdog. She can be aggressive to other dogs but with a short amount of introduction she is fine. I would not recommend taking her to a dog park though. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Iko loves to kiss your chin, get belly rubs and neck massages, chase balls, chew bones and nap on any place soft. He's a great companion on a walk or run - great leash skills --- unless he sees another dog he wants to play with, he will need more training to respond without pulling and barking. He is large powerful animal, but our sons can control him well with a nose lead. He is house and kennel trained. He happily curls up in his kennel for our work hours with a bone, but he's a large active dog who loves to be exercised and then sleep it off. He came to his foster home from a family who had to surrender him because they had a new baby ... (Read More)and couldn't give him the time and attention he needed. He never showed aggression around the small child. In our foster family, Iko plays well with his foster dog bros and our older children (early teens). He is eager to learn and is ready to please his forever family. His forever family should have time to love and care for him, a fenced backyard, NO CATS and perhaps be familiar with the Shepherd breed. His loyalty, desire to be useful and activity levels are very German Shepherd-like. He has one birth defect, one of his front legs has a reversed ulna bone. It doesn't stop his activity and the vet just recommends keeping Iko at a healthy weight to minimize issues as he ages. (Less)

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Jester is sweet and intelligent. He has learned commands since being in our home and shows us so much love. He loves to play; with us, with he tosses his tennis balls around and wrestle with his stuffed toys. He is learning basics in obedience class. He needs help on walks. He pulls hard and barks and is reactive when he sees other dogs. He goes crazy when he sees squirrels and is hard to contain. We have an older dog in our home and while he is calm when he sees her, he tries to prevent her from getting close to us and has shown aggression towards her. He tends to herd our small dogs and the cat. Jester was very compliant when he met ... (Read More)our dogs at the shelter. He was subdued in our home. When he had his vet checkup on the third day, we learned he was very ill with pneumonia. After IV fluids and antibiotics he was much better. His sweetness and love for us remains but his energy and anxiety with the other dogs became evident when he was well. We have crate trained him and move the animals from room to room to limit the opportunity for him to compete for attention. We have signed him up for more training and believe he can be an excellent companion but feel the stress in keeping him away from our older large dog is to much as our home is not large enough to keep this up and our yard is small. We hope to re home him to a single animal home with a family that will continue training him. He is black, has expressive brown eyes, his tail tip is white and he has a small blaze of white on his chest. He is 43 pounds. I will post a picture when I can get my computer to work! (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Diesel is a 2-year old German Shepard/ Rottweiler mix. He was in training as a PTSD and mobility-support service dog, but has failed out of the program and is looking for his forever pet home. Part of the reason he failed is that he was secretly being abused in his home by another house member, (it was caught on camera and that person arrested). He has not fully recovered from this and it sometimes shows up as mild separation anxiety (he's a chewer and sometimes eats things he shouldn't like his blanket) and ducking when you raise your hand or make sudden moves. Diesel was also attacked by a small dog and continues to be not fond of them; ... (Read More)however, if introduced slowly, he does just fine. Same with cats. He is sensitive, goofy, medium to high energy, snugly, and will make you laugh for hours with his antics. He has nice manners if you remind him to use them, and walks well on a leash in a halty or on a choke chain. He does have some leash reactivity with dogs he does not know, and needs to be introduced to other dogs slowly. We've been working on changing that, and he is doing somewhat better, but will need continued training. Due to his energy level and size, he would probably do best in a home without small children. He loves them but doesn't always remember where they are and can knock them down by accident. He's currently in Olympia, WA but would love to meet you. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This boy is solid at 13 lbs he will be 70-90lbs (of course this is a guess but he is going to be a big boy) We are now taking applications for the Bales litter - please email us at Puplandiadogrescue@gmail.com . We will email you an application - it normally takes us 1-2 days to respond. Mom is a German Shepherd mix and and two dads (yes google it - thats a thing) One dads we think was a Rottweiler and the other dad was a Pitbull. Temperaments of puppies change as the pack changes, lots of positive reinforcing training and a loving family will make these puppies amazing. (They are all pretty amazing already) They are not potty trained or ... (Read More)kennel trained, they have been dewormed, and have 2 of 4 shots. The adoption process and fees will be emailed along with the application. These puppies will NOT be approved to live in an apartment (yes we do home checks), they need a back yard to play. They need loving happy homes that plan to be active physically and mentally. We do not allow tail or ear cropping so please don't apply if you plan to do either of those. Please note: Our Adoption fee for puppies is $300 in addition to a $200 deposit refundable at spay or neuter totaling $500 due at the time of adoption. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rosco is a great dog with some flaws. The bad first, he's bad on the leash, he can not live with horses, cows or around elk/deer. The good, he loves kids ( we would love if he went to a family with kids), he listens to men more but will also listen to women, he knows verbal and hand signs. He loves to cuddle! He's good in the car, he's kennel and potty trained. He would love to be around someone 24/7 but if that can't happen then investing some time and energy into kennel training is a must! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lolo was born around Christmas of 2016. We were told that her mom was a lab mix, so we are guessing that she is a lab/shepherd/hound mix. Whatever she is, she is cute and beautiful! Her foster mom says the following: Very mellow, sweet-heart of a girl. Loves to cuddle more than anything. She is a good listener and surprisingly loves her kennel. She is house trained and stands by the door when she needs to go potty. Lolo is in foster in So Cal, but can come to Oregon or Washington for her forever family.     Shilo is about 1.5-years-old. He is very intelligent and a quick learner. He came to us with zero manners and obedience, but has made great strides. He is currently in a home with children, large and small dogs, and livestock. Shilo does awesome with the kids and large dog, but does not know what to do with the small dogs and will chase livestock. He probably would not do well with cats and can jump low fences. Shilo is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and is microchipped. He can be met in Portland. Please contact us if you are interested in adopting, or even fostering, one of our dogs. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bruno is such a great puppy. Momma is a lab mix and daddy is unknown, but possibly some sort of shepherd and/or hound mix. He is about 7 months old, neutered, chipped and UTD on his shots. He is great with kids and dogs of all sizes. He isn't a big fan of car rides as he has a tendency to get a little car sick. He may grow out of that. He is house trained, crate trained, and knows some basic commands. He does occasionally submissive or fear pee, but that is fading ashe grows over and more confident. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Mange (Demodectic)

Born 10/31/16 - bully/shep mix. Currently in foster in California, but can be adopted in Oregon or Washington. Fixed, chipped, up to date on vaccinations. Smart puppy. She has a mild case of mange (non contagious) which is being treated. This is what her foster reports about her: In general she is doing well, happy and playful. We have been making progress on the house training and command training. She is going in the house less and also asks to go out, but not every time yet. We still have a few accidents a day. She is responding better to no, sit, off, and we are still working on down. She seems comfortable in crates as long as we ... We are trying to leave her alone for a few minutes at a time to try and get her more comfortable with being separated and know we are coming back! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Little Tavi wants a nice place to lay her head! Tavi is a 15 year old spayed female. Her breed mix is a mistery as she weighs in at only 15 lbs! She is the sweetest little girl in the world however her eyes have seen better days. We would prefer her to go to a home without young children or at least seperate her from them if they come over. Fast movements make her very nervous and we don't want that for her or for a child to be bit. Tavi needs a wonderful home until she is ready to cross that rainbow bridge; she is in very good shape for her age! Please help Tavi find a great home!

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Peaches was surrendered after her owner passed away. She had also recently had puppies adding to her stress. She is about 5.5 years old. She is about 50 pounds. We aren't quite sure on her breed and have opinions as varied as shep/husky to rottie to dobie. She is a pretty girl whatever she is. Peaches is now spayed and is ready for a home of her own. Peaches was very loved and spoiled in her prior home and she is a sponge for attention. She is good with kids and loves people and cuddles. She's good with horses. So far she has not seemed to like cats, but she's been doing well with other dogs now (after going through a period of time where ... (Read More)she wasn't liking many other dogs). So she will need someone who will take the time to introduce her properly and integrate her into their pack. She does really like people and wouldn't do well in a situation where she was left alone for long periods of time. She also is a talker. It's very cute! Peaches is UTD on her shots, microchipped, and spayed. She is currently in foster in So Cal, but can come to Oregon or Southwest Washington for her forever home! German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Wyatt is so ready for his forever family! Someone is going to get lucky with this guy. When 2 of our best fosters both say this is one of the best foster dogs they have had, you know he is a true gem. He is a super handsome dog with a gorgeous brindle and white coat! We are still trying to sort out his breed, but in person, he looks shepherd or possibly cattle dog with maybe some Akita mixed in and possibly a little bully. He does great with other dogs and really likes to play, but he is also okay being an only dog. He loves his people! He adapts to new situations very quickly. We don't know how he is with cats, but on walks he ignores the ... (Read More)cats and bunnies. He has not been around many kids and he does jump up occasionally (but corrects easily), so may be better with bigger kids so he doesn't knock them over. He is approximately 3 years old. He is overweight at the moment at 90+ pounds, he is on a diet and should probably be in the 70 pound range ideally. Wyatt is just adorable!! Love those ears!! Wyatt is up to date on shots, de-wormed, chipped, and neutered. He is currently in foster in Southern California, but eager to get into his forever home in Oregon or Southwest Washington!
