Rescue Me ID: 15-02-24-00138TACO (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

TACO was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 18th December 2014, with severe demodex mange and skin infections, his feet were very swollen and bleeding. TACO came to rescue and started treatment and over time he started to do really well. Initially he would stay in his crate that was in the bedroom, but that was more as he didn't want the other dogs to stand on his very sore feet. Over time and healing TACO started to socialize more with the rest of the dogs and the more he healed the more he played. On 17th February he was neutered, he still has a good amount of hair to grow, but it is coming along great. TACO is a very sweet, ... (Read More)affectionate boy, when he has gained all his weight and fully recovered, he will truly be a magnificent sable boy. He loves playing with the other dogs, he is getting very active and would benefit from an active family who will be willing to take him on lots of adventures to different places. TACO will need basic and hopefully advanced training with his new family - this not only helps set down boundaries and expectations, but allows both dog and family learn each others personalities and body-language. TACO is going to be a big boy and will need plenty of exercise, both mental and physical. TACO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has a date of birth of around 16 December 2013 and at the time of his neuter surgery in February 2015 he weighed 59.0 pounds. TACO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. Rescue Me ID: 15-02-23-00056IVA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

IVA was originally an owner surrender to Kerry County Animal Control in December 2011. She had given birth to 4 puppies, 2 had died, the other 2, I discovered when back at rescue had parvo, and IVA had tested postive for heart-worm disease. Not the best start, but we got her through - we fought with the puppies to stay alive and they did, which we then found them wonderful forever homes. We had IVA treated for the heart-worm disease and she also found a family to adopt her. Sadly a few weeks ago, I had a phone call from IVA's family saying they could no longer care for her, she kept digging or climbing the fence and they didn't have the ... (Read More)time to exercise her like she needed. So on 21st February 2015 IVA came back to rescue. We need to get her to the vets to have a heart-worm test, since her last one was 2013, she needs her very long nails clipped but other than that she is in good shape, but clearly with a LOT of pent up energy, which after a few days being with the pack, she will hopefully have found release for some of it at least. IVA is a great girl, she is very friendly and loving and even though she is around 4.5 years old, she still is a very high energy girl, who absolutely LOVES to play ball / fetch. IVA does jump up and pulls a lot on the leash, which leads me to believe that she has rarely been taken on walks and left to exercise in the yard, which will have ultimately led to her destructive behaviour of digging and wanting to escape by climbing the fence. IVA is a stunning bi-colour GSD, she is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, will be heart-worm tested, but has been on prevention and she is micro-chipped. She weighs arond 65 pounds and has a date of birth of around 3 July 2011. We are hoping to find IVA a loving, active family that has the time to give her physical and mental exercise and the love and caring home that she deserves. IVA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350 Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast, raveling up I5 as far as Everett, WA (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). Rescue Me ID: 15-02-23-00013CHULA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

CHULA was saved from the streets by a family in San Antonio. They said they kept her for a month whilst they tried to find her owners, but no one responded so they asked GaDaH to take her in. Whilst talking to the lady she told me that CHULA had gotten into several fights with her pit-bull. CHULA (named by the family) came to rescue on 21st February 2015. In the car over here she was as sweet as can be, but did show a few signs of apprehension. At the rescue in the treatment area with fence panels separating her from the other dogs she was clearly not comfortable and did not want to go near the fence. I stayed with her to reassure her and ... (Read More)it was clear that she was bonding with me. I let two dogs into the treatment area and she became quite protective when the dogs came near me. I have spent time working with her and she has gotten much better and when she is with the dogs in the rescue area she is ok, however, if I sit down she will come and sit or stand by me and not like it if any other dogs come near me. She has not been aggressive, but I have been a strong alpha and let her know that this behaviour is unacceptable. I am sure when she has settled and realizes she is safe and fits in with the pack she will be fine, but this will most likely be her behaviour when she goes to her new family as once again she will have been uprooted and insecure, so she will need time, patience, understanding and a family willing to work with her if she gets like this. Other than her initial protectiveness, CHULA is an absolute sweetheart, she is very responsive, very willing to please and happy to be with her human. CHULA has clearly had an up-rooted life and needs to find a family that can offer her that stability and security that humans and animals alike need. CHULA will need an alpha personality family as she will need someone to look up to for when she is feeling insecure, plus if she is being protective she needs someone who she respects and so will listen when they tell her 'NO'. CHULA will benefit from a family that has time to take her places so that she can take in the sights and smells of the world, she is a young girl and so will need not only physical but mental exercise also. CHULA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested and micro-chipped. CHULA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast, raveling up I5 as far as Everett, WA (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00210ARIELA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

ARIELA was saved from Companion Animal Alliance, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was scheduled to be killed and we managed to arrange flights with Pilots n Paws to fly her to safety at the rescue in Devine, on 13th February 2015. ARIELA did have a skin condition where she had tested negative for sarcoptic mange, but the vet wanted to treat her as a precaution and has since cleared up! At the rescue ARIELA has been great, she is a very sweet, affectionate girl who is always smiling. She comes up to be fussed on, but is not demanding and imposing. She gets on great with the other dogs and has been happy to play with them all. She is still very ... (Read More)'puppy' and loves to play hide and seek with shoes! ARIELA is hoping to find an active family that will take her to lots of interesting places and let her take in the sights and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from at least basic obedience, but hopefully advanced training also. This not only helps to lay down the boundaries and expectations, but also helps to build a bond and more of an understanding of personalities and body language. ARIELA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She did test positive for heart-worm disease but we are hoping to get her treated by the end of February 2015. ARIELA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350 Although LOCATED in TEXAS we are using Paws Without Borders, a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast, raveling up I5 as far as Everett, WA (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). Rescue Me ID: 15-02-22-00160SKYLAR (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SKYLAR was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services on 13th February 2015, the day he was due to be killed. SKYLAR had severe demodex mange and red in-flammed skin that is being treated and healing well. SKYLAR at the time of rescuing him was not leash trained and was very fearful of the leash, we think maybe he had been tied up outside and neglected. SKYLAR came over fearful and shy on initial meeting, but as soon as he met the dogs his confidence was re-gained, his tail was up and he started running around happily to be with his own kind. Over the first few days SKYLAR was trying to show dominance on the younger dogs, but was in no ... (Read More)way aggressive, it was more of him trying to find his place, also he had only been neutered the day before. SKYLAR does have high energy and likes to be running around playing rather than sitting relaxing, he will definitely need an active family. SKYLAR will need at minimum basic and hopefully advanced training, This not only sets the guidelines and expectations out for him, but helps a bond be formed and a clearer understand for both him and family of body language and personalities. SKYLAR is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He had tested positive for heart-worm disease which the rescue will be getting treated around the end of February. SKYLAR at time of rescue weighed around 40 pounds and has been given an estimated date of birth of 8 February 2013 (I do however, think he might be slightly younger as he acts very young - but I am not a vet!) SKYLAR is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170 We will be happy to process and approve adopters before his heartworm treatment so as soon as he is fully healthy he can go on to start his new life. Takoda is a beautiful, incredibly friendly, 11 month, 70lb. German Indian Dog (German shepherd/Native American Indian Dog) from Happy Bend Kennel. He is also a wonderful companion if he is able to be with his people or another dog most of the time. Extended times of separation can make him anxious. He has a really playful, responsive personality and he loves interactive games. He also enjoys bonding with people through cuddles and training. Takoda is a house pet, who needs a home with a large, fenced space to run and a couple daily walks or a long hike. He does best with knowledgable, firm, calm direction. He enjoys car rides and visiting ... (Read More)friends, both human and canine alike. He is happiest in the woods, playing in a creek or running across a meadow. He also needs a home immediately, as my situation will sadly no longer accommodate his needs. (Less)

He's a young male that is good with cats; he chases at times but seems to be just curious. He is a bit hyper and puppyish for some dogs but isn't aggressive. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

SPICE was saved from San Antonio Animal Care Services in pretty bad shape. He was severely under-weight, had demodex mange and skin infections. Since being at the rescue, SPICE has gained a good appetite, his medications have been doing their work and his skin has been clearing up. He still has a little way to go for all his hair to start to grown back, but his general health is good. SPICE is great with the other dogs, although he isn't interested in chasing round and playing rough, party due to him having been sick, but also I think he is a laid back boy who is happy to hang out. She can be a little aloof at first with other humans, but after some nice time and reassurance she will soon warm up and relax and learn to trust. She loves to sleep at the end of the bed and give me kisses in the morning. Cha-Cha gets on great with other dogs of all ages and sizes. We do not have cats in the rescue, however, with a little time and ... (Read More)patience should she have any drive it could be worked through, she is very smart and intelligent. Cha-Cha has a date of birth of 18 February 2013, she is spayed, rabies, up to date on her vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative and micro-chipped. CHACHA's adoption donation is $170 Although located in Texas we are using Paws without Borders., a highly reputable animal rescue transport company to re-locate our dogs from rescue to meet their families along the West Coast (This allows us to save more dogs from the high rate kill shelters here in Texas). This is a private company and their transport fee (which is paid directly to them) is $200 per dog. This fee is in addition to what you would pay the rescue for the adoption fee. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

BELLE was born on 14th December 2012. Her mother a Pure Bred German Shepherd Dog. Sadly the pups had distemper and 2 of the siblings were lost. All pups received the distemper serum and antibiotics and did well. BELLE however, went on to have neurological symptoms and was rushed to Westheimer Animal Hospital, Bellaire, TX for Spinal Tap Surgery. Thankfully the surgery was 100% success, the distemper was stopped from spreading and because the neurological symptoms were caught almost immediately there are no neurological side effects of distemper symptoms. One downside is that BELLE has lost almost all of her teeth. This does not hinder her ... (Read More)in anyway at all and she happily eats with all the other dogs, takes treats and bones too. She can just look a bit goofy with her tongue hanging out the side of her mouth - but a very small price to pay for fighting and battling the very deadly DISTEMPER disease. BELLE, is very affectionate, sweet and loving young girl with a very gentle laid back temperament. Of course she loves to play and run around, but generally she is just happy to be close by and when she looks at you she looks directly into your soul. BELLE knows how to use the dog door, and does go outside. I have not kept them in a crate they have had free roam, and come and go as they please. BELLE would love to find a family of her own who won't mind her having no teeth and can love her with all their hearts, she is an absolute SURVIVOR. BELLE is spayed, rabies, up to date on her vaccines, de-wormed, she tested negative for heart-worm and the 3 tick diseases and she is micro-chipped. BELLE weighs around 70 pounds. BELLE is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $170.
