Urgent: This animal could be euthanized if not adopted soon.

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-02-00377Browser (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Browser was transported from Antietam Humane Society (Waynesboro, PA) to Wilson College for neuter surgery last week. Unfortunately, something went very wrong and Browser aggressed towards the vet tech students. One bite was serious enough to require a visit to the ER. Browser is now in Quarantine back at the shelter. Unless we can find a rescue commitment by 3/9, Browser will be euthanized when Quarantine ends. This poor guy lived his life on a chain prior to surrender a month ago. Now he's stressed, unaltered, surrounded by a steady influx of female dogs in heat. Unfortunately, I have no information on how he does with other dogs as ... (Read More)he has not yet been tested at the shelter. I have to wonder if Browser might be Lyme's positive, or have some other medical condition that might explain his behavior. No lab work has been done. I'm told by the kennel manager that Browser has become 'growly' at times with select male employees. As a testament to how surprised I am by this turn of events, please see my Petfinder write-up on Browser, done just weeks ago after I spent time getting to know him. I found him to be delightful, other than the fact that he marks territory like crazy. On Petfinder: 'Browser was surrendered us 1/30/15, when he was about 5 years old. The owners stated they were moving and were unable to take him along. Poor guy apparently lived on a chain, allowed to sleep in the barn at night. This handsome pup is super-friendly, greeting new friends with a waggly tail. He has a calm, easy going temperament and is an all-around great guy! Browser will sit on command and takes treats gently from your hands. His leash manners could use some polishing, which is easily remedied with training and use of a proper harness. Since Browser has never known life as a house dog, he'll rely on you to show him the ropes. This of course includes house training, so be ready to offer patience and loads of positive reinforcement. This smart boy will learn! Browser doesn't appear to be a fan of kitty cats, so there should be no cats in his new home. He'll fit into most any lifestyle so long as he can spend plenty of time with his people. Are you the one who will invite Browser indoors, offering him the love and companionship he deserves?' Rescue Me ID: 15-03-01-00212Oliver (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

He is an approximately 3 year old, 50 lb. ACD x GSD mix, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. He is the size of a typical ACD, but you can see some GSD coloring and markings. Oliver came from a shelter in Kentucky and we don't know his background. While he may not have lived indoors or had any training in his previous life, he has one thing no amount of training can accomplish -- a wonderful temperament. Oliver loves everyone he meets, greeting them eagerly with wagging tail and a happy expression. He gets along great with other dogs -- in the shelter he was kenneled with three other dogs, male ... (Read More)and female, and did just fine. He also gets along great with my female ACD. He tries to engage her in play, but she's still a little shy with him. Oliver is learning to live in a house, and is doing great with house and crate training. He will need to continue on a schedule to reinforce housetraining. He is curious about all household items and doesn't understand that he cannot jump on everything, or chew everything. But he is highly intelligent and has already learned Sit, is doing great with Targeting, and learning Down. He needs a job to do and a good amount of exercise/activity, and I have no doubt that he'll settle down nicely. His overall personality is calm, not hyper, shy or fearful. One thing he naturally excels at is walking on leash. He is truly the easiest dog I've ever walked. Although he does tend to walk slightly behind you, he doesn't pull -- the second he feels any pressure on the leash he self-corrects. He also doesn't constantly stop to mark or sniff. You could walk for miles with Oliver without stress. He occasionally does react to cars, but otherwise he's a piece of cake on leash. That is not to say he doesn't have lots of energy -- he is very playful and loves to race around the yard. While I believe Oliver would be friendly with children, he has not been child-tested, and I believe he would have a tendency to herd them. Therefore only a home with dog savvy older children would be considered. He was tested with cats at the shelter, and did not do well -- cat-free home needed. Oliver cannot ride loose or in a seat belt harness in a car. He is reactive to traffic and even to parked cars we pass -- he probably was never in a car before. In order for everyone's safety, he currently rides crated with a blanket over the crate. While he does complain a little in the form of intermittent whining, he does fairly well using this method. With patience and positive reinforcement, I believe he can overcome his car reactivity. Although Oliver hasn't jumped my 4 ft. chain link fence, I have no doubt he could easily clear it, so a higher fence would be preferred if he's going to be outside unsupervised at all. Overall, Oliver is a truly lovely young dog who will make a wonderful companion. He needs an active home that will provide both physical and mental exercise, and in return you'll have a true and faithful friend for life. Oliver is being fostered in South Williamsport, PA Questions? Please contact Oliver's foster home at loftus0828@gmail.com. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This beauty is MARLEY, she was heartlessly discarded as a puppy because her ears didn't meet the 'standard' for a German Shepherd! Typical of a shepherd, Marley is a bit reserve with her affection and a little shy in the beginning as she slowly warms up to humans. Here at the shelter she is great with other dogs and has become the greeter and comforter to the new arrivals. Marley loves romping outdoors and will be quick to alert you when something is out of the norm. She will be a great and loyal addition to an active and loving family. Marley is full grown at about 60lbs., spayed, up to date on her vacs and micro- chipped. ... (Read More)Unfortunately the facility that Marley currently calls 'home' is in the high kill state of Texas, where there are too many great dogs and too few great adopters.     Oliver is an Australian Cattle Dog/German Shepherd mix. He is approximately 3 years old, but possibly younger, 50 lbs., heartworm negative, neutered, micro-chipped, and up to date on all shots. Oliver was a stray in KY, and since coming to his ACDRA foster home, he is learning all about being an inside dog. House training has gone very smoothly but he will need to keep to a schedule to reinforce it. He is also learning basic manners and is a very fast study! He naturally walks beautifully on leash. He is very friendly with everyone, but due to his herding nature should not go to a home with young children. Oliver is the size of a ... (Read More)typical cattle dog, with red heeler coloring in his face, and a little more of the shepherd coloring on his body. He will make a wonderful companion to an active owner who will continue to work with him using positive reinforcement training. He is a dog who will need to be kept physically and mentally exercised, but his overall demeanor is calm. He will counter surf and chew items he shouldn't if not supervised or exercised enough. This should diminish as he matures and settles in. I'm already seeing improvement in that area after two weeks. Oliver was cat tested at the shelter and determined not to be a candidate for a home with cats. He is reactive in the car, probably having never ridden before, but can ride safely in a crate. Oliver can be adopted within states covered by ACDRA - Maine to Georgia, as far west as TN/OH.
