Rescue Me ID: 18-02-14-00303Shadow (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Experienced German Shepherd Dog lovers only: Shadow is a handsome, intelligent, 2 and a half year old, pure bred GSD whose idea of fun goes like this: from across the yard, you offer him a ball, his eyes lock on the target as he runs like the wind straight at you; moments before nearly bowling you over, he slides and skids to a shrieking stop, then sits for the ball, making you marvel at his youthful pizazz and athleticism. Shadow, a recent surrender, was well cared for: he is neutered, up to date on shots, and house broken but he was left out in the yard for long hours every day while his people went to school and work; hungry for ... (Read More)companionship, Shadow grew protective of his food; Shadow is still hungry for companionship and now he needs a loving, dedicated leader to help him bloom into the magnificent dog he is meant to be. Shadow will do best in a home with no small children or pets. If you think you have the 'right stuff' for Shadow, contact Tri-County Animal Rescue Center on Facebook, call 814-918-2032, or email: contactus@Tricounty-arc.org (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bruce! Bruce has been a big part of our family for almost 6 years, but with the birth of our son 1 year ago he has not adjusted well. We aren't able to do the things he loves as much anymore: hiking, swimming, just being outdoors. He's at a certain age where, he has 'puppy energy' when he gets excited, but then can sleep for hours during the day. Unfortunately, small house + small child + big dog does not add up to a good situation. Please contact us to learn more about Bruce! He's a great, loving, very people friendly dog. Would not recommend homes with other animals or small children however, as he does have jealousy and possession issues.

ACE is a German shepherd mix about 2 years old. He is very high energy and needs training. Based on our observations at the shelter, he would do best as the only pet in an adult home. He hates being kenneled and would benefit from working with an experienced dog trainer. We are a small shelter located in rural PA; closest city is Pittsburgh. Please Map It before you contact us. We require a meet and greet with any other dogs in the home, check references, and need to meet the prospective adopters; therefore, we do not transport dogs.

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-21-00145Ben (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Vaccinations Current

Sweet and gentle Ben is a black shepherd mix who spent 6 years with the same family and through no fault of his own found himself at the shelter after a baby came along. Ben weighs in the 60 lb. range, is house trained, walks well on leash, and responds to 'stay,' 'shake,' and 'sit.' If you come to visit, Ben may try to hide in the back of his kennel; he's a shy fellow who seems to prefer the ladies; he takes longer to warm up to men. You may need more than one meeting to reassure him, but for the person who can take the time to be friends with Ben, Ben has at least 2 things in his favor: maturity and manners. Ben just wants to be ... (Read More)claimed as a cherished member of the family; he's waiting right now for you to discover what a treasure he is. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Kobe was adopted from the Animal Rescue league in Pittsburgh in July 2016. He is a 50 pound German Shepherd mix (we think part Rhodesian Ridgeback but unsure). We think he may have experienced an abusive situation in his very first home, so he does have some anxiety and can be shy at first. We live in a smaller town home without a yard, which is not a suitable environment for what he needs. Kobe is a very sweet and loving dog. He is a great walker on the leash and does not pull. He loves his owners, loves going for walks and runs, and he sleeps up on the bed. He is definitely a cuddly dog and he gives kisses a lot-maybe too much. Kobe is ... (Read More)very smart- he knows commands for sit, stay, paw (shake), roll over, and 'dance'. He is easily trainable. Kobe is housetrained; however it is essential that someone is home with him most of the time, as he gets very bored and anxious. He needs a family who has a yard, and even another dog would be great! Kobe absolutely loves all dogs and he is very active. He does not have any experience with little kids. He deserves a loving home with a yard to run in and a family who can give him a lot of time and attention. Please e-mail me with any questions or for more information. (Less)

Animal ID: 7555Lewa (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Spayed

ewa is a beautiful petite female Shepherd mix who is about a year old and 35lbs. She is high energy, especially excitable meeting new people. She is very pleasant and a joy to have in the house. A neighbor who met her, used to have a Black and Tan Coon Hound and he is convinced she is this type of dog; the white front paws and tan back paws, the friendly energy and her general demeanor. She is very bright, attentive and always willing to please which will make her easy to train. She does not protect her food and likes to play tug of war with her toys. She would do well in a home that has another dog for playful wrestling. 'Don't be fooled ... (Read More)by my formal white gloves. I'm a very easy going dog. When my foster mom is working on the computer, I happily rest until she is done. And then I'm ready for play time! I also love playing in the yard by myself. Everything is so entertaining! I love to run! If you like to go for jogs, please take me with you! I stay on the sidewalk and jog along happily. I love to eat. Training will be fun with lots of bits of kibble. I'd like to learn to sit and heal. I like going for walks and I don't pull hard. Squirrels are so cool! I'm really good about using the outdoor facilities. I don't love going into my crate, but I'm quiet and calm once the door closes. I'm friends with the tween and teen boys at my foster home. I love all sorts of chew toys and I think my happy waggy personality will make you smile. ' (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-10-00341Ceaser (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

German Shepherd lovers: Ceaser is a 5 year old, neutered male who is housebroken and who has lived with adults, children, and other pets. In his earlier adoption photo, Ceaser does look a little threadbare but with time, medication, and better nutrition his hair is beginning to fill in beautifully. In his kennel, Ceaser stands politely while you hook up his leash and walks easily to the back door. While Ceaser lived amicably with another dog in his former home, he has begun talking smack with a few of the other kennel dogs so he may be dog selective. He is not recommended for very young children because of his size, but when he met the ... German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Do you know what true devotion looks like? Look into my eyes and I will show you. Are you looking for a true friend who will love you through thick and thin? Who will love you even at your worst moments with a devoted doggy heart? If so, then maybe you're looking for me. I'm looking for MY person too. I am a loving boy and ready to bond with that special someone. I am an adorable 2-year-old, medium sized boy at approximately 35 pounds and appear to be a Shepherd mix. I enjoy car rides, going for walks and playing! My previous foster reported that I am house-trained and know some basic commands like 'sit' and 'down'. I have done well meeting ... (Read More)other dogs and adults with proper and slower introductions. I'm too interested in small animals like cats so it's best not to have them in the house. I am eligible for a 2 week trial adoption and will have an adoption addendum since I will be adopted from a boarding facility. The addendum states, that due to me being in a boarding facility and not a foster home, Operation Paws for Homes isn't 100% sure how I will act in your home. More specifically this means, they do not know if I am potty-trained, how I will be crated and are unsure of my house-manners. Operation Paws for Homes always recommends a decompression period to allow me to adjust into your home. There are so many dogs that need help and space is limited in rescue. For this reason, if a return from trial adoption is requested, please note that it may take up to 7 days to find placement which may not be where the dog was adopted from. We do our best to accommodate but sometimes our options are limited as we try to combat the problem of pet overpopulation. Thank you for understanding. We will work hard to try and find your perfect match! (Less)

Animal ID: 6664Treeter (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

No one could be sweeter than our Treeter! Come meet this 2 year old, 45 lbs. Shepherd mix (possibly some Boxer and coonhound, too) with the most beautiful face and eyes. Treeter's motto is to live wholeheartedly. Bouncy, prancy, loyal, and joyful, Treeter absolutely loves her toys! There isn't a person she has met that doesn't receive her undying affection -- hugs, kisses and all! Treeter is potty trained, settles down to sleep in her crate, and has lovely house manners in her foster home - just give her a bed close to you and she snuggles down nicely. A sweet trick with her: just rub her chest and she'll fall asleep sitting next to you and ... (Read More)loves to cuddle. She is calm most of the day, but does still need an outlet for her energy or it can get bottled up. She knows sit and stay (but easily 'forgets' around people she thinks might not know that she knows these things!) and is working on lie down and heel. Her exuberance and sense of loyalty make her suitable for adult households and those with children 13 or older. She might not always understand why she needs to share your attention. Treeter thrives in an environment where every member of the family can help reinforce boundaries, as she can be strong and determined if you allow her. Treeter would do well in a home that has structure and rules so she feels secure and knows the role she is to play. And preferably no little furry critters -- she really can't help chasing them. Not all dogs know what to do with her energy and she's not so sure she wants to share her food; so, if she has a canine roommate or visitors, it will take an adopter willing to work on slow, proper introductions over the first couple of weeks. She is current on all shots, spayed, microchipped, and fostered in Hanover, PA. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-25-00182Bo (male)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This delightful boy is Bo. Bo is a 3-year-old shepherd mix weighing about 55 lbs, with a loving soul. He is working on adjustment into foster care and with resident dogs. He loves to be brushed and have his ears scratched and, as he gets more acclimated, is even open to a good belly rub. Bo is responding well to leash training. Bo is housebroken and crate trained. Due to anxiety and nervous behavior, at this time we are currently recommending no high strung dogs in the home and no young children. Bo does well with a low energy dog in the home and did great with other dogs at an adoption event. Bo is current on vaccines, neutered, and being ... (Read More)fostered in York, PA. (Less)

PLEASE READ BEFORE RESPONDING: Ruby is a smart and loving Shepherd who needs to be an 'only pet'. She does not immediately take to strangers and she needs to be introduced slowly to new people before she can accept them. She is NOT GOOD WITH OTHER PETS IN THE HOME. Her ideal scenario would be a fenced in yard and someone who understands her breed. We do not have small children so we do not know how she would behave with them in the family but she does have a very strong prey drive so it is not recommended.

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Leon is a young guy who has spent a lot of time on his own (about 4 months). He is about 5 yrs old and will do about anything for food. Leon was born with a deformed rear paw. Two bones in his foot have formed to make one bone. Sometimes he will hold his paw up and keep on going. His disability has not slowed him down. Leon learned very quickly to trust people but sometimes loud noises still scare him. A home without young children would be best for Leon. A meet and greet is required with any other family pets and any potential adopters will need to spend time at the center to gain Leon's trust.

Chloe is a cutie in search of a new place to hang her leash! This 2.5-year-old pup tips the scales at about 40 lbs., is housetrained, great with cats and with other dogs, and knows some basic obedience commands. This sweet girl is also rather a shy girl, so she'll need a family that will be patient with her while she settles in and can work with her to overcome her fears. A fenced yard with room to exercise is a must for Chloe. Want to learn more? Please email us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com to find out if China is the right canine for you!
