Rescue Me ID: 14-08-05-00464Boots (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Hip Dysplasia

Boots is a purebred German Shepherd. His coat coloring is dark brown/black on most of his body except for his throat area into his mid section and his knees to his feet, which is a light brown/beige. He is about 33 inches tall from the floor to his to his head, and his weight is about 110-115 Pounds. His body length is about 35 inches from noes to rump. His tail is about 15 inches it's self, but I could be wrong about that from all the twirling and wagging he was doing when I was trying to measure him. He does seem to be getting lazier due to some pain in his hip area, which he nibbles at creating wounds which I continuously need to apply ... (Read More)with antibiotic to keep from infection. As for his temperament, he has typical traits that would be found the breed; Weary of strangers in what he considers 'his' area, although he will not bite unless a stranger or person that is not part of the family reaches to take his food or water bowl away, and even then it would be seldom because he is generally calm, relaxed. As for the nibbling on his wounds, he is not fussy when receiving medicine for his wounds unless it is a type that stings when applied, such as peroxide or alcohol, in which under such circumstance he will just run away and hide. If need be, I give him anxiety medicine or Benadryl to calm his nerves before applying those kinds, which I seldom need to. Hydrocortison spray for hot spots on dogs and neosporine seem to work just fine for the both of us. He will allow the application of those with the addition of some soothing sweet words spoken in a soft voice. Clipping his nails is easy, he stands there as if nothing were happening, but you may need to tell him to stay and hold his color to keep from him walking away. In the past, Strangers to him that he had just met less than an hour before they clipped his nails he made no fuss, and did not even flinch when she accidentally nipped his skin. When I do give him pain or anxiety pills, most of the time it is as easy as holding it in the palm of your hand, telling him treat, and if it drops from his mouth, point, pick it back up and say 'treat, eat it buddy, come on, eat the treat', And he will just eat them without having to make him. A house full of family members does not bother him, although rooms too crowded will cause him to cry and whine out loud, unless the crowd is the people he considers his pack. He will only cry if it is a crowd mixture of guests and family. Telling him to go lay down will work, unless he is that incredibly nervous. He is loving, snuggly, and once that bond is created with him, it sticks- nothing will break it. I can stick my hand into his food bowl, grab some food in the palm of my hand, and he will eat straight from it. He knows commands well, so don't let him play you for a fool. He knows. When people leave the home, he whines, and if there is no one home, he may howl. He adjusts incredibly quickly. Outside of the home, or 'area' he's very content with meeting new people, especially people that are considered friends to you. He does love people, although one out of ten times he may flinch when a stranger reaches the wrong way to pet him. He usually looks to the demeanor of his handler. In the home, however, he is wonderful with children as well as out of the home. I've come to see that he adjusts better around females, probably because of the intimidation that comes with a tall man with a deep voice. If that kind of man happens to be part of the family or 'pack', and is one of those who help take care of him, whether feeding, brushing, small walks, etc. He will nonetheless bond the same way. He has no aggression issues. He is a nervous dog at times, but I do believe in the circumstances going on in the situation through the past through months have been nerve racking for him. He will lay on you, In your arms, and will love with all of his heart. He does need a vet check up to have blood work done to see what types of meds he can be prescribed by the doctor instead of just over the counter remedies. He has a phenomenal intellect. You could probably have a whole conversation with him and he'd probably look at you as if to respond back. He is curious. He loves other dogs, and he is wonderful with children. His clumsy nature along with his sheer size may be an issue for small children due to his body length & clumsiness causing him to bump them on accident. As a senior dog, I don't recommend small children tugging at him or trying to initiate puppy-like play. The experiences I have had with him and toddlers/young kids have all been more than positive ones. I just never was in a situation with him where a child would poke and prod or tug at him, So I have no idea how tolerant he would be of that. I assume he wouldn't be fussy, He is a sweet hearted, loving animal who only dreams of a place where he is loved. Alas, If only I could keep him, it would be like old times, and we would be together, happy. (Less)

Blair's Info... I am already spayed, up to date with shots, and good with kids. Blair's Story... Blair was found at a school playing happily with the kids, and a kind neighbor brought her to the local shelter to keep her safe. She thought she had a potential adopter, but they never came back for her, so poor Blair spent the next two months there ... and with little hope of adoption at this overcrowded shelter, things weren't looking good :-( Luckily for Blair, one of our Almost Home fosters offered to take her in, and she is now doing great in her new foster home, where they say she's a very lovable, easy, low maintenance dog. She's about ... (Read More)1-2 years old, and tips the scales at around 60 lbs.; she has beautiful, soulful brown eyes, a great personality and temperament ... and she's going to make some lucky family very, very happy! German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Channing is a 4 year old White German Shepard. Channing is spayed and utd on shots. She is good with dogs but would do best with only larger males in the household. I don't recommend her with children. She is fearful of people and would do best with a single owner who is home majority of the time. She loves to run around so a large yard would be best. Channing does love to cuddle and will sit by your side all day. She also loves belly rubs and to give kisses. Channing is housebroken and will let you know when she has to go. German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We adopted Bella from a shelter. Unfortunately, we must let her live in another home. She seems to love humans, especially adults, but has lived with and been around young children without incident. She is very sweet and smart and loves to work for her treats. She is very dog aggressive. She must go to a home without other animals, as she can not live peacefully with our other dog. Free to good home with proof of fenced in yard, willing to continue obedience training, and willing to keep her for her natural life. She is very loving to humans.

Rescue Me ID: 14-03-28-00129Van Keillo (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered

(Sir Van) Keillo is a soon to be three year old purebred German Shepherd. Unfortunately, he spent most of his life at the shelter. Sadly, a lot of owners get a German Shepherd without having taken the trouble to research the breed and find out what they're getting themselves into, which results in a lot of sad, mixed-up, abandoned, and often aggressive German Shepherds. Suspicion and wariness is a hardwired character trait in guard dogs like the German Shepherd and Keillo was not properly socialized. That is the bad news. The good news is older Shepherds can still be successfully trained, but it takes more time and effort to first 'untrain' ... (Read More)them of any undesirable habits already acquired. Keillo would make a wonderful companion and guard dog. As you can see from the pictures, he is handsome, obedient, and loyal. And all he asks for in return is exercise, leadership, training, and affection. Pretty fair trade if you ask me! Keillo's new guardian will need to spend several days, maybe weeks, working on gaining his trust by walking him and playing with him at the shelter. For this reason, no out of town inquiries please.
