Rescue Me ID: 14-10-19-00406Max (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Ok first thing you need to know about Max is, he was a stray dog prior to living with me. When I found him he was extremely malnourished. He was about 7-8 months old at the time. He was not aggressive at all, he was scared, a little nervous, but not ever not even once did he bark, growl, snarl, or show any negative aggressive behavior towards me, my husband, my kids, nor my other 3 dogs. He was very sweet. When we took him to the vet to my surprise, he did not have any parasites, no heart worms, hookworms, nothing at all. He was just very extremely Malnourished. He was scanned for a chip, didn't have one. The vet said all he needs is a lot ... (Read More)of TLC and food and water and we got ourselves a healthy beautiful new family member. Second thing you need to know about Max is he DOES NOT like cats!! He's a very high energy dog. He loves to play. Although he is good around my children, he needs a lot of training. He does like to jump up on people. He has never bitten one of my kids, but he has knocked them down just playing and trying to give them lots of love and kisses. He does very well when getting a bath. I usually give him a bath in the tub, but I have also given him a bath outside with the hose (not on a hard spray). He has been to the dog park a couple times. He did very well he was not aggressive there was no fighting. But he did show signs of dominance trying to mount the other males at the park. Those male dogs were very submissive because they didn't do anything to Max when he tried to mount them. I know a lot of people keep sending me messages asking me if he is a purebred. I am not an expert on the breed. To me he appears to be a purebred although his ears are not standing up. The only way you can find out if he is a purebred is to have a blood test done. I never really cared if he was a purebred or not I love him no matter what. The reason I am trying to rehome Max is because we moved to a neighborhood where they have breed restrictions. I really do not want to rehome him. He's been staying with my brother for several months now and unfortunately my brother is not very good with dogs. I trusted him to take care of him and he promised me he would. His last visit to the vet he tested positive for heart worms and that broke my heart. It's because my brother does not clean up his kennel as I had asked him to several times. He is on heart guard. Max is NOT neutered as of right now, but he will be neutered prior to going home with whomever may adopt him. The reason I am having him neutered is because I do not want him used for breeding purposes. I would like Max to go home with someone who has a big yard. Someone that can give him the love and attention that I can not give him right now because he deserves it. He needs someone that can give him a forever home not a temporary home. He is a big dog so whoever adopts him needs to be fully aware of what they're walking into. I wouldn't recommend you to adopt him if you've never owned a dog before. He need someone that is experienced someone that can train him. If you are interested in him and have any questions or concerns or anything please email me do not hesitate to ask any questions. Just know that I'm not just going to hand him over to anyone. I want to know that you are suitable adopters. Someone that can provide him with a good home a stable home. He was a stray before I found him and I never want this dog to end up on the streets ever again. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-10-03-00661Handsome 'Charlie' (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charlie is a 2 year old German Shepherd to adopt in Columbia SC I am a German Shepherd in South Carolina who lives with his military family. I have been trained, but I'm still a little wary of new people and very protective of my family. I am not a guard dog or outdoor dog, I'm part of the family and I like to stick close to my people! Because I am a young German shepherd and wasn't socialized well as a puppy I need an owner who is experienced with big intelligent breeds. I'm not a bad dog, but it takes a while to earn my trust. Before my current family took me in, I was raised on a puppy mill and really did not get much practice being ... (Read More)around people until I was older. That means it takes me a little longer to let down my defenses. My family are finding it tough to give me a predictable home life as both adults are in the military, and moving around or long absences are likely in the future. Right now my family are in two different ends of the country. I think I would fit in well with an owner that spends a lot of time at home or on a farm - someplace where there is always a person or another dog around and ready to play or teach me some new tricks. They say that I'm smart, but if you aren't a good teacher I'll get bored or tired of waiting for some exercise. If you have another dog for me to play with, I promise to take it easier on you! Like other shepherds, I'm always happiest with a job to do, and a chance to run, jump or figure out a new trick. My family says that it is very important to them that the new owner be experienced in training German Shepherds or other similar breeds! Smart dogs like me still have the instinct to be aggressive if not handled with firm fairness. I'm happy to let you be the boss, as long as you know the right way to lead, I respect people who can be calm and understand how I think. I have had some eColar training and it was fun for me to have my own trainer. I didn't trust her at first - that's the way I am - but once I got to know her we had a great time thinking up fun games and ways for me to show my talent as a student! Please Note: Any new owner will need to assume the alpha role and let Charlie join the family pack. Charlie has been a family pet and has learned that role up until now, so the current owners want him to find another loving family to protect and play with if they can. They are not interested in any other situations for Charlie. If you would like to offer this handsome German Shepherd a loving, forever home with lots of activity, please fill out our adoption application form at : http://petprosservices.com/adopt/ or call Mark toll free at 1-888-9-PETS4U. Personality: Charlie is protective of his family. He was never properly socialized as a puppy and he can be aggressive towards people he doesn't know. It takes time for him to be comfortable around new people. He is a sweetheart to our family and always on guard duty. He is very smart and a devoted buddy. It seems that he prefers females over males. Current Home Environment: Currently he lives with my fianc̩ and our one year old son, as well as my fianc̩ female roommate and her large dog. They have a nice fenced in yard with a dog door. My soon to be wife and I are both US Army Soldiers. I am currently stationed in Hawaii and they are in SC. Because of the roommate situation right now, he has two adults an infant and another dog around when the house is full. Why Rehoming? I am not living with my family and Charlie needs attention and activity. My fianc̩ works very long hours and is also a single mother right now. We cannot give Charlie the home and attention that he needs and deserves. Having another dog in the house for him to play with has been great for him, however, the other dog is moving soon. We love Charlie very much, but given the way that our careers move us around and affect our schedules. Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be: People with patience that can look past the initial aggression. Someone that is able to work Charlie. Someone that will continue his training. A family that will love him and allow him to be a member of the family. I would love to see him with a trainer or a family with other dogs so he has company. He is NOT and outside guard dog. We feel that his aggression is mainly from not being properly socialized as a puppy and needing more activity Additional Comments: Charlie has been trained professionally with eCollar through a two week in house training. He is great off leash. The dog trainer said he was very smart and was a pleasure to work with once the ice was broken. She said he needs to be worked and that he longs for it and excels at it. He is a purebred but I do not have papers for him. I got him from what I later found was a puppy mill, so we think that he wasn't properly socialized around people before we got him. We love him and it is painful to have to let him go. We will not let him go to just anyone. He needs the right fit. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered

Prometheus is a very sweet boy. He's named after the Titan from Greek mythology. He's an energetic and loving dog, and he's protective of his family, though usually not aggressive. He is house-trained and trained in basic commands (sit, stay, etc). He loves to run and chase bugs, and sometimes he likes to escape out the yard, but he always comes back. He would be best off in a home without small children- he is good with some kids, but not most. He usually gets along well with other dogs, but he likes to be the boss. He is up to date on his rabies vaccines, but no others. He does have allergies and is prone to ear infections. We want to see ...     Chloe is a very sweet dog. Unfortunately, we are having to give her up. While she was sleeping in the kitchen, my toddler (who just learned to walk) was walking and fell on her. Her reaction was to bite, and she bit him in the face. He had to go get stitches at the hospital. For this reason, we cannot keep her. Now with a bite history she is getting rejected by the SPCA to take in. They (along with our vet) said that they would have to euthanize her if we were to give her to them. We are drastically trying to find another place for her. We are more than willing to donate to any orgaization willing to take her in and find a new (Kid ... (Read More)free) home. (Less)

Buddy and Gabby were victims of circumstances. When the parents divorced there was nowhere for the girls. Rather than give them to the county shelter (which does not guarantee life), they were surrendered to us to place in a loving home. Buddy is the older of the 2 girls. She is around 6 and Gabby around 4. Buddy helped to raise Gabby from a puppy and they are very attached. When visiting the vet's office for a check-up, Buddy was taken in the back and Gabby cried until she returned......separation anxiety. That's why I am looking for a home that will take both girls. Adoption fee can be negotiated for the 2. Buddy is a very life loving ... (Read More)dog......maybe because she beat the parvo virus as a puppy. Loving life means a tennis ball to fetch and a fenced yard to run....or even a boat trip to an island in one of our Southern lakes would be wonderfully fullfilling. Miley needs a large fenced in area as she absolutely loves to catch Frisbee or balls. She loves to run and is an outdoor dog. She is very dominant with other dogs and cats...does not get along with them at all. Unknown if she could be trained in this regard. She does sit and drop her toys on command. German Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Lady, 7 year old German Shepherd Dog, lives with 4 children at this time. She is a guardian, a loving playmate, loves to fetch, go for walks, ride in car, play at beach. Easily excited when you mention 'frisbee, ball, walk, ride, play, potty, treat' or when you pick up a leash. She will jump right into the car and sit. She will not get on furniture. She will not run off if you take her in front yard while you are out there (highly not recommended until she has been with you for a month or so and you establish dominance/ control) fully housebroken and lets you know when she has to go! She will sneak a sandwich off the counter if you go out of ... (Read More)the room! She will protect and needs a strong minded, experienced handler. She is great with women, she takes getting used to men to be OK, which can be a good thing for a stay home wife or a family where Dad works shifts, etc. New family must have fenced yard and one of the adults must have experience with GSDs. Lady must also be an only pet or if you have a dog, is should be a more submissive one. Marine Corps family needs to find this dog a home ASAP. There is a vet reference check as well as home visit required to adopt her. There is a $100 adoption fee if all works out. She comes with a huge custom built dog bed, 2 elevated bowls, 8 months of heartworm preventative and her leash and harness. Lady is returnable to us for any reason at the adopters expense/travel arrangements but the fees are non refundable. This is to keep her from going to an unsuitable home or being surrendered to a shelter or pound or worse. We want to maintain contact with new family via Facebook or email indefinitely as to her well-being and progress. Interested candidates for adoption should email me via their First & Last name, address, phone #, veterinarian name & contact info (you must have an established record of pet care that they can verify previous pets were well cared for) and a personal reference name/ contact info as well as pictures of the general area she will be (living room, etc) and the yard/fence. And we will go from there. Email 'Trainer4you@msn.com' UPDATED 10/22/14: 7 yo spayed female GSD needs new home with no small children ASAP. The good: Utd on everythjng including heartworm prevention. 'Perfect house dog' as in completely housebroken, doesnt chew, needs no crate, can stay all day if you go out without having accident etc. Great car rider, obedient (over 2k in training), protective and loyal The bad: In getting a little bit older, she has become less and less tolerant of children and we have 5 of them, down to age 3 months! She is agitated by them running into her and has begun growling when they step on her or even when they touch her! It had escalated to.snapping at them. **Qualified home would have responsible adults that recognize the needs of this breed, their need for exercise and stimulation, would have a large fenced yard, no small dogs and children old enough to respect her and not fall on her, and the ability to play fetch with her daily to *release her energy needs! She is an indoor dog only. She potties and comes right back in unless you are out with her. She is not a chain or yard dog. She is also not a furniture dog, she has a bed and has never been allowed on the couch or bed. If left out, she will bark at the door until you get her back in. Also, candidate MUST be willing to send updates and pictures when requested and agree to a home check. I can bring her to you with her things and that would suffice. Also, a vetreference to ensure you would take care of her and keep her on her heartworm preventitive. And lastly, own your home or have written permission to have a german shephard on your property and in your home. If you are going to geg rid of her because of a pcs or deployment, dont bother please. She needs a forever home for her last 5-8 yrs. We have had her since 12 weeks old. She comes with a huge custom built dog bed that is painted teal and has a nice upholstered headboard. Also a few months of hw prevention left. $100 adoption fee. looking to rehome immediately serious inquiries only. (Less)
