|Rescue Me ID: 14-01-28-00163Gabby (female)|
Gabby is a young female German Shepherd that was rescued from the Pine Ridge reservation. She spent a month at the vet clinic where she was treated for mange, was spayed, and brought back to health. She is now looking for a home of her own. She is a very confident dog, so she couldn't go to a home with another dominant dog. She is good with older children, but she's too energetic for young children or small dogs. If interested in adopting her, fill out and submit an adoption application so we can get the process started. Mitchellanimalrescue.org Serious inquiries only. Be sure to research the German Shepherd breed before applying for her. She'll make a great companion for the right person. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 13-12-08-00531Ava (female)|
AVAILABLE NOW (1/11/14) Ava has had a rough start in her short life. She's about a year old, but small due to malnutrition. She lived on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, was covered with fleas, mange, open sores, and dogbites. It took over a month of daily treatment and medication to get her this far. She is now healthy and is looking for a home where she will never have to worry about where her food is coming from or where she'll sleep for the night. She deserves nothing but the best for the rest of her life. UPDATE: Ava would do well as an only dog or companion to another large playful dog. She likes to be the boss, so another dominant dog in the home would not work so well. She will follow you around and loves to get loving from people. She's good with children, but due to her energy, a home with small children might not be the best home for her. She also likes to play, but plays a bit rough with little dogs, so a medium or large playmate would be best. She is housetrained, spayed, and utd on shots. She rides well in a vehicle, but hasn't mastered jumping in yet. She will wander off if unsupervised. She likes to play outside for a while, but loves to be inside also. She sleeps in a crate, but not by her choice. She has to be coaxed in with a treat. She's very food motivated, so will train easily with treats. If you'd like to give her a great home, fill out and submit an application at mitchellanimalrescue.org Serious inquiries only. Please do your research on the german shepherd breed before applying. She will be a great dog for the right person. (Less)

German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in South Dakota if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
