Rescue Me ID: 14-11-24-00210NIKA (female)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

NIKA is a beautiful girl saved from Fort Worth Animal Care and Control. She is very sweet and affectionate. She does seem to be a little protective of me and gets a little jealous if other dogs come close, but I think that is more from all the changes and uncertainty she has had the past few weeks. She will settle when she knows she is safe. NIKE does have a lot of weight to gain and she will be a nice big girl when she has filled out. She is good with other dogs, we don't have cats in the rescue and so we are unable to say how she is with cats. She is very responsive though, which is an indicator that she can be guided / taught to leave ... (Read More)cats alone if she does have that curiosity and if the family is willing and has the time to work with her. NIKA will benefit from at least basic training so that she can learn what is expected of her and also so her new family can learn about her. She will need an active life to and be able to be mentally stimulated to keep that magnificent GSD brain active. NIKA has an estimated date of birth of November 2011, she is spayed, rabies, up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested NEGATIVE and micro-chipped. She currently weighs around 62-65 pounds, but as mentioned needs to gain a good amount of weight. NIKA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.     BLADE is a handsome young sable German Shepherd dog, saved from Fort Worth Animal Control. BLADE is very affectionate and friendly, he is great with other dogs. We do not have cats in the rescue, so we don't know how he is with cats, but he is responsive and so does have potential to learn and be guided should he have that curiosity of them. BLADE is well mannered, but with all rescue dogs would benefit from at least basic obedience training to set his boundaries and to give his new family to learn about how he thinks. Rescue Me ID: 14-11-17-00304ROCKY (male)

German Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

BONDED PAIR ROCKY GaDaH was contacted by Houston Humane Society to see if we could help them with some German Shepherds that they had turned in as owner surrenders. They had lots of interest from people to adopt, but they wanted them to be back-yard/guard dogs. ROCKY was an owner surrender with his brother SPIKE because her owners could no longer care for them. They said they were bought from a breeder, however, had no papers. ROCKY is neutered, rabies, up to date on vaccines, de-wormed, micro-chipped and tested NEGATIVE for heart-worm disease. ROCKY weighs approximately 71 pounds. His given date of birth is 24 October 2012. ROCKY is ... (Read More)the big brother to SPIKE in an alpha way. He is the 'rock' for SPIKE when he is uncertain about things. ROCKY is a bit of a bully in that he doesn't let SPIKE get near the food, I believe this most likely because they have both not been given enough food and so ROCKY has gone into survival mode, and SPIKE being submissive to ROCKY has accepted this. ROCKY growls at SPIKE if he is near a bowl and SPIKE will just walk away. ROCKY has not shown his teeth, however, it would be best to feed ROCKY on his own and don't allow him access to SPIKE or any other dogs whilst food is around. He is fine with treats. ROCKY does fine with the other dogs, he is confident, but not imposing. ROCKY is a lovely boy, he is a little affectionate, but it is clear it is not something he has been used to and so at times is a little unsure when you go to stroke his head and will cower a little. But once scratching on his ears he is of course a happy boy. Apart from growling around food, ROCKY has never shown any signs of aggression. ROCKY needs an active family who can give him plenty of both physical and mental stimulation. He will benefit from lots of long walks, allowing him to smell and let his mind process everything. He will need a family that can be patient and let him learn to trust completely. GaDaH is looking to adopt ROCKY and his brother SPIKE together since they have clearly been through so much together and are bonded. ROCKY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350. We do allow out of state adoptions, however, the adopting family must cover all transport costs. SPIKE does look to ROCKY for confidence when he is feeling unsure. Both dogs are under-weight, with SPIKE needing to gain the most weight, this is partly due to the fact that ROCKY doesn't allow SPIKE near food and growls at him.     It's a brave new world for this girl! Malala wandered up to the house of a gentleman we know, who often winds up with stray dogs. She hung around for a few days, and so he continued to feed and care for her, but he knew she had to be spayed. Malala came into our clinic for surgery, but we couldn't let her go back to living outside without someone to care for her. So she became a SNIPSA pup, and now her story continues! When we say a dog is sweet, we just mean they're friendly, not too excitable, and like to be given attention. Malala takes sweet to a whole new level. Whether it's sitting on the couch with you, napping in the sun, or playing ... She strives to hard to please, she's already learned 'Sit', and is house broken. She doesn't even mind the crate. He walks well on leash. He gets along with dogs of any size. He has 3 foster siblings, a male and a female GS mix and a puggle. He is not really interested on toys or balls but will do anything for a treat. He behaves great with small kids, teens and adults. We haven't tested him with cats yet.

Lucy is a joyous dog that loves life. She is quite comical, and has a very goofy personality. Even though she is 70lbs, she really wants to be a lap dog. I was fostering Lucy, and the rescue that was sponsoring her closed down. Lucy very much enjoys her walks, and loves to swim. We are working on fetch. She is house trained, and gets along well with our other large male dog. The reason Lucy is searching for a new home is that she has a high prey drive. She does great with cats and small dogs when under supervision, but will chase them if unmonitored and they start to run. We live on a ranch, and she is great with the chickens, goats, ... (Read More)horses and cattle as long as we are watching her. Lucy is very well behaved. She knows 'sit', 'shake', 'down', and 'go to bed'. She is very loyal. She has never been around children to my knowledge. Lucy would thrive in an environment that is a little more controlled than the ranch. She would do best with another large male dog, or by herself. Lucy has a beautiful coat, and a zest for life. She can be a little shy with strangers, but will be their new best friends once a dog treat is offered. Please let me know if you are interested in meeting this fun loving gal. (Less)

Wilson is a 2-3 year old Akita/Shepherd mix. He adores people and water. He made himself right at home jumping on my bed and cuddling. Gets along with other dogs, pictures taken at a dog park. Likes to explore and roam. Very loving guy, is housebroken, but will mark in new places. He really needs a person to call his own. He never chewed or destroyed anything in my home. An all around great dog who will do well with a single person or a family to love. Does ok on a leash but would prefer a yard to play in. Very smart dog. Has shepherd 'razor' ears and an adorable curl to his tail like an akita.

She loves water and the outdoors, and gracefully handles everything from routine walks to rugged hikes. She also loves being around people- kids included! - and will show her affection with many kisses. Bella is healthy, up to date on her shots, and housetrained (she can even do well for over 8 hours without going outside). Bella has been well loved, but due to an across country relocation with housing that does not accommodate dogs, her owners are seeking to re-home her to a loving family.

Hello, I'm Bear, and I would like to tell you my story. One morning, after roaming the cold rainy streets of Spring Branch, a nice lady and her dog found me while on their morning walk just a few blocks from their apartment. I was hesitant to trust them at first because my last family left me behind (and gave me a messed-up haircut, I might add!). I would have followed them back home, but I was in pain due to my hip dysplasia and couldn't walk very well. The nice lady (who I now call my foster mom) promised to be back with the car, so I waited. Minutes later she found me and took me back to her place. I stayed outside on a nice bed on the ... (Read More)back patio for a couple of days. All I did was eat and sleep! I didn't even bark at people and other dogs walking by unless they got a little to close to the house. Nowadays, I roam around the house all day and night able to go anywhere I please because my foster mom realized I am such a good, well-mannered dog. I'm very respectful and don't mess up the house by chewing things, going through trash, pottying in the house, or anything else that some dogs do that humans don't like. I patiently wait for her to come home and then give her lots of love! The vet told us that I have an old injury that has caused me to be blind in my left eye. I also have hip dysplasia in my right hip and am going to have to have a surgery called an FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy). Otherwise, I'm healthy as a horse! My foster family and friends are really nice, and they're going to get me the care that I need. I'm very outgoing, I enjoy riding in the car, going to dog parks and restaurants, and relaxing at home. I am feeling better everyday thanks to my foster family and friends. Please fill out an application to adopt me if you would like to love me, play with me, scratch my belly and nurture me for the rest of my doggy days! Hope to hear from you soon! A few additional words from my foster mom: Bear is a 65 lb white German Shepherd that's house-trained in unrestrained living conditions. He shares the apt with another unrestrained female dog. Bear keeps himself clean and doesn't really like to get in the tub, but he loves water! Bear barks when strangers approach the door, but has shown no aggression. Bear does 'mouth' when he wants something. He lives in a home with no children but is very friendly to most people when approached, so we don't think he would have any problems. Bear has a bed in my bedroom but sleeps anywhere he sees fit. Bear eats a grain-free limited ingredient diet twice daily. He's not food aggressive or possessive towards others while eating. The cost of the dog food I have been feeding him is approximately $55 per 24lb bag. Due to his hip dysplasia, I give him Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. He currently takes Rimadyl and Tramadol to help control his pain until he has his surgery. Bear knows basic commands like sit and down. He does not require a yard and is leash-trained. I don't use , but he is highly likely to be crate-trainable. Bear is affectionate, even-tempered, and so sweet. He would be a great addition to any family! Please consider donating towards Bear's upcoming surgery and medical expenses. You can donate by clicking on this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=E2QMUYX4KXDWC. Every little bit helps! Thank you! PUPPIES: Puppies that haven't had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center at our weekend adoption events.
