German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Maya! She is a super playful and loving dog. She is a rather big puppy so she needs her space to tire out her energetic self2. She is crate trained and fully potty trained but as said needs to be out and about. She is a dog who honestly just wants to cuddle and be loved. She is full of joy and wants to express her love. She does still need quite a bit of training but listens to the commands (sit, down, stay, paw, and off). She partook in Sit Means Sit training which came with a muscle contracting collar which will also be given to the new owner, Also included will be the free puppy classes at the Centreville facility.     I have to rehome my two wonderful pets (see Casper as well). I would love for them to stay together, but certainly they need a good home first and foremost. Chica is the sweetest dog you could ever meet, she does have a very bad knee and has had 4 different operations. She is still somewhat active and takes slow walks and likes to play while mostly laying down. She does need two different meds daily and my family will pay the adoptive family for this cost through her life. She loves the dog park and mainly treats it as a 'people park' soaking up attention from everyone. She is a wonderful dog in need of a good home, please help this sweet ... (Read More)girl. (Less)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Abby is about 50 pounds of spitfire. She arrived from a North Carolina shelter, happy to be out of that state and happy to be the newest foster with Promises Animal Rescue. She is probably about a year old and is still very much a puppy in her attitude and demeanor, but she's a pup who grew up tough. She can be a bit overly defensive in her meeting with new dogs, especially if she's in a crate or on a leash, but she met all of the dogs around here without difficulty. She does well in a crate. She loves people and will display this with a hug.

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-14-00471Sophie (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

A very loyal companion and sweet friend! Our best guess is Sophie is a German Shepherd and Vizsla mix (based on what other dog owners have told us). She would make a really great companion for someone who enjoys the outdoors, hiking, running, just being out! She requires everyday exercise if possible to get out her high-energy nature except if it's raining then she doesn't care much about going out, she's quite the snuggle bunny. Thankfully her most favorite thing in the world to do is fetch! She will do that until she is so tired she flops down to bask in the delight of a good run! The way we best achieve this is by a favorite game using ... (Read More)the 'chuck it' a handy tool 'ball thrower', finding a open field and you're SET. She will love you forever and do that any day of the week. She is incredibly agile and fast, a very precise dog (think Olympic athlete). She blows my mind every time she catches a ball in midair, sometimes even before it ever hit the ground! Would make a great running companion if that's your thing and in general LOVES being outdoors with you. The following are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what she has to offer: Crate Trained. She is crate trained and loves her 'den'. That's her sacred space and she finds refuge there many times throughout her day. It's where she sleeps most of the time and will go to if a thunderstorm is happening or just anytime she wants to of if you need her to she is happy to so. Knows the following commands: Sit, Stay, Lay down, Spin, Leave it, Come, Out, and many other human words. You can basically talk to her and she mostly understands what you're saying. Active: As stated above she loves to be moving and playing. Affectionate: She wants to be where ever you go/are which makes her a wonderful dog to take with you on trips, she's the perfect pal. Dislikes being left at home and if we are going to work when we can't bring her we leave her with a peanut butter stuffed kong to keep her mind and taste buds busy and she usually does very well. Loves the water, In the summer it's simply amazing to take her out to a river or stream and just have a ball! She will fetch sticks and swim them back to you. Great for someone who enjoys being at water, rivers and hikes. Sophie is Very loyal and while can become protective. This is something to be aware of as people come into your (her family's) space. She has the tendency to bark at first and doesn't always do the best with strangers (typically large unknown males), sudden movements or folks coming into her space. It depends on the person and how they sniff out. We've found that greeting new people outside first is always best, and taking it slow. This is a typical dog trait to a degree and I'm certain that Sophie simply didn't get enough people exposure during the critical age and most likely received the negative aspects from certain people in her past. With patience and continued consistent training I'm sure Sophie would improve greatly. We've seen much progress on this front since we've been working with her. This would be a great area of work to continue in order to round out the rough edges and social awkwardness she has with new people. I mention this as I feel it's important to know for hers and everyone's safety. She requires an alert individual. She is a complex animal with many layers to learn as I continually have. She will teach you more about yourself than you may have wanted to know! She gives back in many more subtle ways through your own learning experience of working with an animal who can use a little help/patience and love. As mentioned above she obviously has had some mistreatment in her past, therefore she is a bit fearful of new people and also does not do well with children (my guess is kids in her previous house were really hard on her). We have never had any serious issues with these things, but it's important to be aware of at all times and to not take chances. Shes good with other dogs most times, but will not be good with cats or any other small-size furry animals in your house. We've learned this the hard way through personal experience. She has a naturally high prey drive that would be better suited not having those temptations for her until proper training has been accomplished. Sophie is free to the Right home and comes with Many toys and accessories (Create, car seat cover, many toys and treats, balls, ball throwers, bed, etc. Only serious heartfelt conscious individuals will be considered as I'm not in any way willing to let her go to a home where someone will not properly care for her. Please contact me to talk about more details and setup a meeting to see if Sophie is right for you! Neal (540) 830-4103 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-06-00443Nikita (female)

German Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Nikita, a 2 year old German Shepherd mix with a sweet tooth for adventure! Nikita is sweet and playful and always up for a, dare we say it... 'walk'. This girl loves to play but don't get us wrong she isn't bouncing-off-the-walls hyper, we would say she's just active. Nikita made her way to a local shelter originally being picked up as a stray. She has settled in great at her foster home, is potty trained and always on her best behavior. She is vey obedient and likes to show off the plethora of tricks she knows. When intro'd to other dogs Nikita has been very dominant so we think she's best placed in a home as an only dog. However, she ... (Read More)is perfectly fine walking past other dogs on hikes etc. just probably would do best as the only dog in the household. Wanna meet me?     My name is Rex and I am a chained dog. Yep, it's every bit as bad as it sounds. Look into my soulful eyes and you can see how I dream to be part of a family like the little dogs who live at my house. You see, when I was a puppy, I lived inside, but as I grew, my caregiver decided to make me an 'outside dog.' I didn't want to be an 'outside dog,' but now, for my 3 years of living, that is the life I have led. I am an optimist, and I have made the most of my life, giving kisses to those who visit me. I waggle and show them what a good boy I can be if only I can move into a home with a family. I dream of that every minute of every day. ... (Read More)THAT DAY HAS ARRIVED. My friends at Radford Pound Pals now have 'ownership' of me and are looking for my perfect new home! They are seeking an experienced dog family who can be patient with me. I want to learn and I want to please, but I may not understand all of the rules at first. See, there are no rules on the chain except surviving. My special friend next door loves me and works on training me every day and brags on how smart I am. She thinks I am a Shepherd/Lab mix and also tells me how handsome I am. I am also neutered, current on vaccines and HW/Lyme negative. Please, if you are interested in me joining your family, write my friends at pals@psknet.com for an application. (Less)

Hello, my name is Jessica, I currently am in a very tough and very hard situation... my ex boyfriend Grayson was in a very bad car accident about 6 weeks ago. He had a traumatic brain injury and the doctors are unsure when/ if he will fully recover. Currently he still remains in a coma. He has two dogs, a 3 year old doberman named Ruger and this here is Teake, a 3 year old pit bull. Currently the dogs are being watched by a friend and myself, but our situations will be changing here very soon in the near future and we will no longer be able to keep the dogs at our houses. Grayson loves those two dogs more than anything and it would break my ... (Read More)heart to have to tell him that they are gone and he will not ever see them again. I need to find someone/ somewhere that will help me find them a temporary...and maybe (but hopefully not) permanent home(s). The big issue that I am having in finding them a temporary home is that Teake & Ruger are both dog aggressive, and Teake is sometimes human aggressive. I don't doubt that with the right care and training though they could be the best dogs in the world. I would love to keep them together but it is looking like they are going to need to be split up. Please if you or anyone you can think of can help me in anyway please contact me... I am running out of time and options, thank you. (Less)

CURRY, FEMALE PUPPY, 42 LBS, RICHMOND VA CURRY IS BEING FOSTERED IN THE RICHMOND VA AREA. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN CURRY, GO TO WWW.MOMSRESCUEVA.ORG AND COMPLETE AN APPLICATION. Hello, my name is Curry and I am a 8 month old lab/shepherd mix. My start in life was pretty scary, I wasn't treated very well and me and my brothers and sisters were left outside to fend for ourselves. We didn't know anything about humans until they came to trap us so as you can imagine I became very afraid of people and thought they were bad. Fortunately, MOMSVA rescued all of us. My foster mom is teaching me that people are good and that I don't have to be ... (Read More)afraid all the time. It really helps having other dogs and puppies in my foster home to play with, they help me translate human stuff into puppy stuff so I can understand and I am coming out of my shell more and more every day! My foster mom says I need a very patient family, with a low key lifestyle and a nice fenced yard to keep me safe. She would love it if they had some previous experience with shy, fearful dogs, that way they would know that I need space and time to settle in. An adult home is the best, but I think older children (over 16) would be ok. I just get very nervous and scared with a lot of commotion! I hope my new family can continue helping me with my transformation from a scared puppy to a happy puppy. It will take some time, and I will probably always have some fear issues, but she says I am off to a great start! Having another dog in the home would be really helpful for me because they show me how to behave. I do enjoy going out for quiet walks in the neighborhood, getting out makes the world seem less scary. I love to play with toys, especially the ones that squeak! I am also crate trained and housebroken. I would LOVE to find a home with my mom, **Chelsea, who is also available because her and I get along so great (we bring out the best in each other) and I'm her favorite! We just love to play together! All my brothers and sisters have already found their forever homes, they weren't as scared as me and that makes me a little sad, but my foster mom says not to worry my family is out there too! **See Bio on Curry's Mom Chelsea also. We would love for them to go together but for the right home we will adopt separately. If you want to see if you and Curry are a match, go to www.momsrescueva.org and complete an application. (Less)

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our Valentines Day present to Sage was her freedom ride out of the shelter. She arrived in rescue a broken soul, almost like she had given up on life along with very poor skin condition, scabs all over her body. Since in rescue her foster reports: Sage is coming out of her shell since arriving here from South Carolina. Her body is evidence of the hard life she has lived, but despite it all she is a sweet and gentle dog. Sage is so excited to see me when I get home from work. The once shy girl greets me with a wagging tail and kisses. She is enjoying having a safe and warm home for the first time in her life most likely. She is also ... (Read More)enjoying eating and gaining weight each day. We are currently working on potty training. She seems to be doing well and learned the routines quickly. We are also working on basic commands such a sit, down, drop-it, and off. Sage is good with other dogs, but would do great as an only dog in a household too. Her foster brother has a bit too much energy for her, but he has taught her how to play with some toys. Sage is so deserving of a fur-ever home and she will quickly make you fall in love with her'|I know I have. (Less)
