|Animal ID: 15 02 02 00717Sasha (female)|
Sasha is a playful, healthy, vibrant 1 year old German Shepherd female who loves the great outdoors and is currently living in a household with 2 adults four children, a cat and back yard chickens. She is playful and faithful to all of us but she can also be fiercely protective. Great guard dog!--But only if the person she is protecting is responsibly attentive and loving, devoted to building a bond with her and training her to be a good citizen. Anything less than that and she would likely become a bite risk. She gets along beautifully with all of us but will sometimes attempt to dominate the cat or chickens if she is bored and/or unsupervised, however she has never hurt any of them. She submits willingly to calm assertive energy (alpha presence) and will only attemot to dominate when that is lacking. This is not code for overly aggressive or unruly, however, because even my 12 year old is able to maintain that status with her, and so is the cat. Rehoming her will likely have to be an exercise of loving patience and understanding, especially upon meeting her. But again, if you are someone who embodies calm assertive energy, she will accept you in no time, as we have personally witnessed this easy acceptance with our most grounded and 'mellow' friends. We adore Sasha but our lifestyle combined with her fear of strangers has limited our ability to include her in our everyday activities and this is clealy not what is best for her, and certainly won't help her to progress at the rate that I know is possible if only she had an owner able and willing (and experienced!) enough to devote real and consistent time to her need for exercise, training and interactive play. Her issues are with human strangers only, she loves playing with other dogs at the dog park, and our neighbor's dog next door. Although she starts off a bit timid (when at the dog park), she will, in relatively short order, have the time of her life romping and playing with other dogs as long as the other (stranger) humans totally ignore her, otherwise she will fixate and bark and growl at them. Because younger children can be somewhat unppredictable, and understandably fearful when she postures in this way, it is imperative that she live in an adults only household where younger children are rarely present until you have earned her trust and she has earned yours. Of course, even then, as with almost all dogs, she should never be left unattended with young children. It is quite apparent that this sweet girl's issues primarily stem from insufficient socializeation at an early enough age. She was already fearful when we brought her home at 12 weeks and her anxieties were exasperated by our inexperienced attempts to follow advice that inevitably conflicted with the advice from one 'expert' to another. The worst of which came from our veterinarian who was emphatic about not 'exposing' her to all the potential doggy viruses and parasites out there until she had all of her shots which weren't complete until 6 or 7 months of age! While on the topic of veterinarians she would do best with a holistic vet. or at least one versed and supportive of a whole, mostly raw food diet. Sasha suffered from runny stools, ear infections, rashes and excessive hair loss until we made this switch (against the advice of our veterinarian) and she has been healthy and happy and thriving ever since! We haven't gone back to see our veterinarian since making the switch, but we haven't needed to either. She has had zero health issues on this diet and she is current on all of her shots. She sheds less than the average German Shepherd on this diet as well. We have witnessed great success with Sasha when we have had the time to exercise her and play training games but are rarely able to do this consistently enough to avoid backsliding. In the meantime, a large fully fenced yard preferably on acreage, away from visible neighbors, would be ideal to keep her 'stress' levels low until she can be properly trained. The right owner for Sasha is someone who loves and is experienced with German Shepherds and who does not share a home with young children...although I know that she will miss the children she has come to know and love in our home. Please call if this might be you. There is so much more to tell about this loving and sweet girl that is, sadly, in very real danger of being euthanized. Please call and I will explain to you the circumstances that have lead to this potentially horrible fate for her. It is worth noting here, however, that no one was bitten in the situation that I'm referring to. It really was more like they were 'herded' back into their homes. Please call so I can explain. She's a good girl who deserves a chance in the right environment. Thank you. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 15-01-25-00452Vienna (female)|
Beautiful Vienna! She has the most beautiful blond hair and golden eyes! Vienna is an energetic, fun-filled, fast-paced girl that loves to run, jog and wrestle with the other dogs... no matter the size. With all of her go-go-go, she will still stop to lean against you for some petting and take treats gently from your fingers. She's still very young... only about 8-10mo old, and currently weighs about 40-45lbs. She'll thrive in an athletically active home that will take her on lots of outdoor activities... and one that will continue training with her. She's very smart and picks up things quickly... but she also has a bit of a wild-child side so she needs a person that will take the reigns to help her continue to develop into the wonderful girl she's becoming. Vienna should have another dog in the home... or at least lots of doggy play dates. She must have a wooden fenced backyard because if she is in the backyard and hears her people in the front, she will go over a 6ft chain link fence to join them. She's a goofy, beautiful, energetic, very smart girl that will be a wonderful addition to a very lucky home! (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 15-01-07-00505Foxx (male)|
Foxx is a 4 yr old, 51 lb male Shepherd and Great Dane Mix. Foxx was found abandoned near death in a shopping center parking lot. With many months of TLC and rehab, he has turned out to be a very happy, friendly and athletic companion dog. Foxx is a confident and dominant dog that is pure muscle. He is crate trained and knows some basic obedience. He loves walks, car rides and chewing on his bones. He loves to hang out wherever his human is. He does prefer women over men. He did show signs of abuse in his past. Foxx will do well with a confident middle aged active couple or active individual as an only dog. He will need a fenced in yard or a ranch where he can stretch his legs and then come back into the house to hang with out with you. He will also require some obedience training especially so that you ensure he does not dominate you as the adopter and continue with his leash training. He does have a slight disability, but it does not prevent him from being a normal and active dog. In fact, daily walks and swims will keep him strong and athletic. The vet seems to think that Foxx either had distemper when I was a puppy, had a bad reaction to a distemper shot or was abused which has caused some muscle loss in one of his shoulders which also causes some muscle twitch. He is in San Antonio but can be transported to Washington/Oregon on the next transport which leaves Oct 23 arriving in WA Oct 25th Please look at our website for more information about who we are and what we do, www.godsdogsrescue.weebly.com or www.yourtxrescueconnection.org (still building) Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescued dog!! |Rescue Me ID: 14-12-30-00259Walter (male)|
Please help Walter! This wonderful, 6-7yr young, 70ish lb shepherd boy should not be in a shelter (from which he was rescued after his previous owners abandoned him), nor in a rescue environment! At his mature age... yet still energetic and quite playful... he should be relaxing in his own home, on his own cushy bed. He has a very easy going personality and he loves to hang out with the medium and large female dogs. He's also very inquisitive so loves to go on long walks and hikes. Walter must have a securely fenced backyard... preferably wood and no cats for this boy.

|Rescue Me ID: 14-12-18-00254DENVER (male)|
11 years ago my dad bought me from a breeder. He was so happy that my hips were guaranteed he said. Well, the other day I heard him talking to this man and he said that the breeder lied and that my hips were no good. He then opened the front gate and kicked me out onto the street. I wandered down the street and got picked up by that dog catcher guy! He took me to the Humane Society where I stayed for one month. I kept looking for my dad to come get me but he never did. Finally a nice man came and took me out of that noisy place. He took me to a nice lady's house and that's where I am....waiting for my dad to pick me up. I keep looking everywhere for him but I can't find him. this nice lady says that I just need a kind person that loves old dogs to offer me a soft place to lay my head. ...and someone to take me to the vet when I need it. She says that German Shepherds are so sensitive and are loyal to a fault which makes it very difficult to separate from a long time owner. She says I am a nice boy but that my dad should have got me 'fixed' for my own health. She says now that I am 11 it is going to be tough on me. She loves me and rubs my head which I like. She gives me some pills two times a day and then my back feels better. I like it here because I get good food to eat. I didn't always get any food at my Dad's house, and he didn't let me sleep in the house like I do here. But I still love him and wish he would come take me home. IF you have a place in your home and heart for a wonderful old, loyal and sweet boy contact me. He is going to the vet tomorrow to see if it is possible to neuter him at this late date without risking his life. He needs a quiet place where he can enjoy the remainder of his life in comfort.; a place without a lot of energetic dogs. The Humane Society said that he is good with other dogs and cats. He is here at my home with four smaller dogs; three males and one female. He gets along great with them all even though one of the small males is very aggressive towards him; he does not retaliate; just turns the other way. Even though Denver has a wobbly hind end he gets around just fine with the help of some Rimadyl twice daily. He is protective of his home and people. He would be great for a single woman or man. He loves to go on walks and can't get enough to eat. He weighs 86 lbs and is a purebred very beautiful large black and tan German Shepherd. At his age I think a quiet, calm home is best without a lot of children visiting. My observations since he has been in my home is that he is very sweet and loving. But, I do not have children here. As a senior he is hard of hearing; seems to respond to loud high pitched sounds best. He would be a great watch dog as just his presence makes a statement;he is big and imposing. He has been introduced to visitors and he initially barked but then accepted them in a matter of minutes. Denver went to the vet yesterday. He said either hip dysplasia or spine problems. He will have to do blood tests before he is neutered. He also will need some baseline X-rays. He is taking a series of four weekly shots to bolster his joints. He also is taking glucosomine and condroitin for dogs as well as rimydil 150 mg daily. He now weighs 86 lbs. A month ago when he was picked up on the street he weighed 62 lbs! The vet says he is the perfect weight now. I am hoping that Denvers new owner can help with these vet expenses. Unlike his previous owner WE believe that Denver is worth every penny, worth every minute we spend on him, worth being loved beyond measure. Denver will need a fenced yard and loves to follow his person around the house all day..sometimes stepping on toes! His house training is going well. He has had only two accidents in the past two weeks. You will need to continue his training. He is not destructive when left in the house alone. He likes to sleep in a doggie tent that I had set up for the little guys. Denver is a beautiful, sweet, loving boy with little licks for everyone....even the vet! He is up to date on all vaccines. Please request an application on Denver. I require two non family references, a vet reference, and if possible I will do a home visit. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 14-12-10-00199Mia (female)|
Mia is a fantastic Belgian Malinois that we took on as an extended foster last year. Her health issues have been addressed, her weight is good (85# all muscle) and she has been properly socialized with a pair of older dogs. Now Mia is looking for a new set of challenges and life experiences with a forever home. She is extremely friendly, very loving and very quick to learn. She needs a physical job to be fulfilled - she has an amazing sense of smell and the ability to dig like an excavator. Mia WANTS to detect every parcel and bag that comes to the house, even appears relieved by doing this. So, S&R seems a likely fit. |Rescue Me ID: 14-07-17-00676Brice (male)|
Darling Brice! This 2yr old boy is incredibly sweet natured, affectionate and gets along great with people he meets outside the home. When in the home, he feels the need to protect so he must have an experienced handler to help him understand that he does not always need to guard the home but instead can just relax. He really is a gentle boy that loves affection... and LOVES to run and play with the other dogs. He's very smart and learns very quickly... except he gets so excited when meeting new people he still jumps up to greet - but he's getting there! Even though he loves children, he does feel the need to protect and guard them so to help him feel more at ease, no children in the home is best. He'll thrive in an active home that will take him on long walks, jogs and hikes... and that has a large yard in which he can run and stretch his legs. An active, athletic and assertive person or couple would be ideal for Brice! (Less)

Meet Cato... big, bold and beautiful! Cato is about 2-3ish yrs old and weighs about 70lbs. He's a wonderfully sweet boy that is also somewhat of a typical shepherd - friendly and playful... then a bit aloof while he completes his periodic perimeter check of the yard. Then he's back again to play fetch or lean against you while you give him a good body rub. He loves to run and is very athletic so a home with a runner/jogger/hiker will be ideal. He also loves to go on long walks and car rides. He a very outdoorsy kind of guy so he must have a fenced backyard in which to play and lounge. Cato is also a very quiet boy that is quite observant of his surroundings so he'll make his family feel very safe. Cato loves people but because of his size, children must be over 14yrs old. He's not great with other animals so no dogs, cats or critters for this boy. He's had a great foundation of professional training so he's also a polite, obedient boy that just needs an assertive, large breed/shepherd experienced home. He's fully house and crate trained and can be left home alone for a reasonable amount of hours each day. (Less)

|PIease Read Before Adopting a German Shepherd in Washington|
German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
