Today we found out though testing our son has severe allergies to cats, dogs, milk, and peanuts. So with great regret we have to git rid of our loving and caring dog who has been with us for several years. She is free no rehoming fee or anything other than a good home is asked for her. This is a very hard decision and we wouldn't be doing this but our son is in misery and has had many sleepless nights due to this. Nox is, house trained, friendly with other dogs, cats and small children as well as fixed .

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-28-00481Gia (female)
Gia is a very sweet soft eared Shepherd approximately 1 year old. She is a very sweet girl and somewhat submissive. She is very shy and its no wonder. Poor girl is scared. She was taken to a high kill shelter after being confiscated in a hoarding case of 29 dogs being neglected, and because of her fear and sulking in a corner people passed her up day after day. She sat there for 3 months with no love very little interaction with humans and the day came she was going to be euthanized. On that day she was rescued! Now she is looking for her forever home with somebody that will love her and care for her and be patient and help her decompress a bit and come out of her shell and she begins to feel 'home' Her personality is beginning to come out. She has played with other dogs and done okay but because of her fear issues can get testy so we feel best for her to be in a one dog home and get all the love and support she needs but should be able to go for walks and go to parks etc and encounter other dogs under her handlers control. She is good with kids but because of her being a little submissive we would not suggest young children as their excitement could spook her but say kids 12 and up should be absolutely fine. She has also shown fear toward men, we believe because it was a male who she was confiscated from and could have possibly abused the dogs. We are working on the fear but for now would prefer an all female home as well. Will you be the one to be the sweet girls super hero and her the loving and supportive home she needs after such a difficult start in life? Gia is in California but can be transported to you for a $150 transport fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-10-00320Sophia (female)
Sophia is a fully vaccinated 2-year-old Great Pyrenees mix breed. She is mixed with German Shepard and Central Asian Shepard. Our family came across Sophia through another military family who had a litter of about 12 other puppies. They were giving the puppies to families who wanted them, and while we didn't need a big dog, we instantly fell in love with Sophia's lovable personality. She is tan colored with white and darker areas and has medium length hair. She is playful and loves playing with our other dog, a Boston Terrier, and two cats. She is also well behaved with my two children. She tends to act like a lap dog even though she is 59 pounds! Even though she is a great dog we must let her go, for her sake. Our lifestyle and surrounding environment is always changing and she is need of something more stable. She is a very protective breed and this has proven difficult for us in a military environment where there are always new people and changes. She needs more attention than what we can provide so that she may feel safe and comforted. She is very fearful of things new to her. I am looking for a family who can provide this needed attention. She is kennel trained on a regular basis, walked on a gentle leash, and fed grain-free foods (currently Purina Beyond brand) due to stomach sensitivities. She doesn't know a whole lot of tricks or commands other than: sit, go lay down, and kennel. Great family dog but really needs some stability and less chaos. Thank you. (Less)

Young, sweet female purebred German Shepherd in need of a home where the owners offer consistent training and attention. She jumps fences, but is good indoors - we take her to doggie daycare now and she does wonderful. Gets very ammped up in the car, so we use a harness for the backseat so she doesn't try to get into the front seat. Very sweet, very affectionate, never bitten or even growled at people or other dogs. Will chase my cat constantly, but has never hurt him.

Rescue Me ID: 16-08-10-00372Sage (female)
SAGE IS A SPECIAL NEEDS CASE... She has BEHAVIORAL and MEDICAL ISSUES that need to be managed. First, Sage has food allergies, so she will need to be on a high quality grain-free food to avoid itchiness and infections. She has improved immensely with a steady diet, and is now very healthy. Second, sage appears to have a high level of anxiety around strangers and other dogs. Because of this, she can be overprotective of her property, and will need lots of work socializing and learning to calm herself down. We are working on her social abilities with other dogs, and she is doing very well! We have her playing with another female dog and she does great with her. Sage also LOVES 'swimming' in our little wading pool!!! We will ONLY consider adopting her out to a GERMAN SHEPHERD-EXPERIENCED home, or transferring her to a QUALIFIED RESCUE. In the right hands, Sage has the potential to overcome her issues, but without the proper training she could become a real problem and no fun to own.... As far as the GOOD things about Sage: she is very nice and friendly with the people she knows. She's actually very playful, and acts like a big puppy! She likes to cuddle and play with toys and she definitely wants to please. She has a high level of energy that would be good for an active owner to go running or hiking or special training such as agility or scent training. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-31-00245Gunner (male)
Gunner is a sweet boy but I have failed at properly training him. We bought him as a puppy for our boys and he was to be there dog but they seemed to have lost interest and didn't want the responsibility so I did the best I could with gunner. He is too much for me to control and has had some issues biting other dogs as well as myself and a couple incidents with my younger son. He absolutely loves walks and knows basic commands, he deserves better, love, attention and someone that will take the time to spend with him. These bigger dogs need space and room to run so if you have experience with this type of breed and a German Shepard lover and have time and patience than he could be a great companion. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-13-00292Zorro (male)
Zorro is a beautiful 4 year old German Shepherd mix who was let out of his yard by accident and was caught chasing livestock in Washington and must be rehomed out of state. He was NOT aggressive toward the livestock, but was simply having fun running (legal authorities can corroborate this). He has lived with a family for the past few years and has been wonderful with the kids and adults in his life. He would love having a family where someone is with him most of the time, and he will only go to a home where he can live inside. He behaves very well on leash and is used to walking every day. He gets along with most other dogs. He is very smart, playful, and loving, and would not be rehomed except for the livestock incident. His family is extremely attached to him and would love to keep him if they could. Legally though, he must be rehomed out of state or euthanized. Please adopt Zorro and give him the forever home he so deserves! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-02-00368Ginger (female)
We rescued a beautiful Chow/German Shepard in November 2014 named Ginger. She is an amazingly sweet dog, but takes awhile to warm up to new people. We are looking for the right home for her as she needs to be somewhere that she can run freely, chase squirrels, and preferably have no children around. She can be aggressive around strangers and has nipped a few people - nothing serious. When scolded, she listens and immediately backs down. The only alternative we have now is to euthanize her as rescues will not take her. We really do not want to do this. We are devastated to see her go, but know that she needs to be with a family that is ready to handle a dog of her nature. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-30-00026Boe (male)
Bo was brought in as a feral dog. For some time no one could lay a hand on him, a young boy came to volunteer at the shelter and dedicated his time to Boe. Over a few weeks time Boe gradually came out of his shell interacting with humans and other dogs. He did so well that he became available for adoption and found a home. His new owners had claimed that they had the time and energy to work with him but were not quite ready for the responsibility of working with an animal that needed so much investment of time and also because he was killing their chickens he was recently returned. He has taken it well and has been reunited with his little boy friend. We are hoping to find a permanent home for him. Only serious inquiries will be answered and individuals must be willing to spend time with him prior to adoption (Less)

Riverside was a lost and found, he came in as a feral dog and has come a very, very long way. He is not terribly excited for other dogs but LOVES humans, he also loves to play frisbee. He is a pretty calm fellow with a great attitude. He knows some commands and walks on a leash. We are truly unsure of his breed and just guessing.

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-18-00483Molly (female)
Molly is a shelter favorite with all the staff and volunteers, she plays relentlessly with water features and fetch, she is extremely vocal, very sociable with humans and does a lot of funny things. She walks well on a leash. Her issues include food aggression and possessiveness of her things, home, car, etc. She would do best in an active household with experienced pet owners.

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-11-00423Clyde (male)
I'm looking for a new home for Clyde. I just don't have the time for him anymore. I work to many hours and feel that it is not right to keep him in my house all day. I just want to find a good home for him. He is great around everyone and loves kids! He does have an allergy that I've been trying to pinpoint. The vet suggested that it was a food allergy but I've tried changing his food a few times and have had no luck. He has been around a pomeranian and may be allergic to her but I'm not sure. He can jump a 4ft fence so if you live in the city it is my preference that you have a tall fence. I would like to bring Clyde to the house that he will be living in to meet you or your family and make sure that everything will work out. Worse case scenario if he doesn't fit well with your family I would be willing to take him back until I find another home for him. I've had him since he was a puppy and just want a good home for him. If I don't answer my phone, please leave me a message or text me, I will respond, thanks. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-09-27-00325Bennett (male)
Bennett is a sweet shy, 5 year old boy that weighs about 60lbs. It takes him a little time to warm up but lots treats and gentle petting helps him understand quickly that he's found another friend. He loves to play with other dogs... and actually prefers males dogs to play with. Because he's a bit insecure, he must have another medium to large, easy going dog in the home. Bennett is learning to walk on a leash and go for car rides... and he's coming along like a champ! He must have a fenced backyard and a dog experienced home. Because he's timid, no kids in the home would be best... and no cats.

PIease Read Before Adopting a German Shepherd in Washington
German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
