I have a 5 year old female German shepard and lab mix that we love dearly, our landlord is making us get rid of her or get evicted. It breaks my heart but I need help finding her a home that she will fit in. She is spayed and chipped has been on a wellness plan since she was 8 weeks old. She is ok with certain dogs but not all. She is very protective of her home. Any help you can give me would be appreciated I'm running out of time. Thank you Vicki Richter 360-259-5809 if no answer please leave message

|Rescue Me ID: 17-06-02-00434Remi (male)|
Unfortunately I have to rehome my dog, Remi. Read below if you need context, but this dog must go to a VERY SPECIFIC type of home. - No young children, i.e. Nothing under 12 - Quiet, preferably in an isolated area with not much traffic through or by the home with strangers - EXPERIENCED dog owners who are able and willing to take on a challenging and stubborn breed and truly great dog with a past. Back story: Adopted Remi a year ago from this site. I was assured he had no type of aggression and was a great family dog. I was naive and probably shouldn't have believed that. When I took him home, I quickly realized that was wrong, and he had fear aggression (not dominance) towards people. I worked really hard for the last year to train him and he's made so much progress (much less reactive, much more responsive, healthier, etc). The reason I'm having to rehome him is for two events that occurred recently in the last 2 months. I am now almost 8mo pregnant and unable to safely train on these issues in the limited amount of time I have before this baby comes. 1) he snapped at a 4yo when she tried to pet him. The dog didn't growl, made no effort to get away, he just snapped. Didn't make contact, but still. He can't be around small kids, it's too risky. 2) he bit me as a warning. Someone came to the door and he flipped out (as he usually does) but as I tried to lead him away from the door by the collar, he gave me a warning nip on my arm. This had never happened before. It didn't hurt, it was a warning, but like I said, not enough time to work on this now. He is a GREAT dog but needs a really specific home environment. Gorgeous, striking appearance, great protector. After one 30min walk all he wants to do is cuddle on the couch with you. He follows me everywhere. Please respond if you are interested. Keep it civil, I've done everything I possibly could for this dog. (Less)

Ali is a 5 year old Lab mix. She is half lab, quarter German Shepard and quarter hound. She has been around small children and other dogs all her life. She is a great family pet and overall good dog. She does need a fenced yard as she will run off to explore if let out unsupervised.

|Animal ID: 62234Benny (male)|
Adopt Benny! Benny is a super handsome brindle mutt looking for a home! Benny arrived at KHS very nervous and stressed. With patience and time he has adjusted to being here and made lots of new friends so he's ready to find a home. Benny can still be uncomfortable and nervous in new situations and with new people, so is looking for a quiet home without too many visitors. Once he's comfortable with you, he will greet you with wiggles, smiles, and lots of wags- it's adorable! Benny is a fun, playful guy. He loves to play with toys (squeaky toys are his favorite!) and he loves getting treats for sitting nicely. He isn't a big fan of lots of touching/cuddling, and would rather be an independent companion that can hang out by your side when he's done doing his own thing. He rides great in the car and walks well on a leash, so he may enjoy quiet hikes, trips to the beach, or other adventures. Benny also goes in a crate really well! Benny is looking for a home where he can be only pet, with a secure fenced yard so he can enjoy outside time safely, and with no kids. Benny is currently spending time in a staff office- if you're interested in meeting him, just ask at the front desk! |Rescue Me ID: 17-05-16-00013Archie (male)|
Archie tries so hard to be a good boy! He is approx 9 and a 1/2 mo old, currently weighs about 70lbs.... and he's all puppy! He was a backyard pup so did not receive the training and attention he so desperately wants and needs, and he is still very thin so he gets lots of food and treats. In just a short five minute training session, he has learned to sit on command and he's doing great with recall training, too. He's now in a loving foster home that is helping him learn manners... but he has a ways to go. Archie has never been socialized with other dogs so he gets very worked up and stimulated when other animals are near. He is then given a stern command to sit... which he does willingly... for about 20seconds. He's then back up on his feet and getting overexcited again. He's getting better, though, with each day and training session. He's a beautiful boy that loves people and is very submissive with all people he meets. He really just wants an attentive, loving home of his own. He must have a large, securely fenced yard or piece of property on which he can run, play and continue learning manners and social skills. He must have an experienced, large breed owner that will help this darling go from the excitable, energetic puppy he currently is to a consistently well mannered, polite boy he tries so hard to be. Because of his young age, he should not be left alone for more than 6hr intervals. He cannot have any other animals in the home and kids must be over 14yrs old. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 17-05-08-00031Keegan (male)|
Keegan is a beautiful, sweet 4.5yr old, 60ish lb boy that would love to have a human running buddy of his own. He would also like an easy going female doggy companion about his same age and size with which to romp through the backyard and cuddle up next to when it's times for a nap. Although this is preferred, having another dog in the home is not mandatory. He's well house and crate trained, and he has great house manners. Keegan must have a securely fenced, large yard because typical to the husky and shepherd breeds, he will get out to explore the neighborhood if he has a chance. He's great with school age and older children and he loves every person he meets. No cats, chickens or other critters for Keegan. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-12-20-00488Lando (male)|
Attractive and fun but high-strung 'tri-color' (bits of white on paws and chest) mixed breed dog, ~70 pounds, needs home free of small kids by the end May. He bit a child in December, after which he started medication that has improved his mood. He is NOT generally aggressive or destructive (but does have a 'resource guarding' instinct and is a bit moody). So, he needs an owner without small kids who is experienced with difficult dogs or is patient and willing to learn. He's great at ball, Frisbee, hiking, swimming, camping, etc. He loves to greet guests, but he's a good guard dog. We love him, but have too many kids around to keep him after the bite incident. And we don't want to put him down! We'd be happy to dogsit regularly and help in transition (if your location is reasonably convenient to Bellingham) or when you are off on dog-free vacations. So, this dog might be good for you if you occasionally travel or need to not have a dog when you have kid visitors but otherwise would like a companion. He's good on the trail and at the dog park. He usually gets along with other dogs but has not lived with any (we are happy to discuss details about likely matches, but he's not likely to get along well with other large dominant dogs--or at least it would take slow integration). He has lived with and gotten along with cats, but he'd need a bit of refresher training on that! If you wish, he might be trained for hunting, agility, or some other 'job,' as he's pretty smart and eager to learn. If you may be able to help Lando by offering him a new home, please contact us. |Rescue Me ID: 16-11-19-00042Charlie - W (male)|
Charlie is a 3 yr old Shepherd blend. He is a medium size dog weighing approx 40-45 lbs. Charlie is good with people and other dogs and maybe cats (depending on the cat). He walks good on a leash and will follow along off leash as well. Charlie seems to be house trained (no accidents) and is kennel trained. He is a good watchdog, too! Charlie loves to cuddle with his human companions and he is a real sweetheart! Charlie is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccines including rabies and bordatella and on heart worm preventatives. He is currently being cared for in TX and once adopted can be transported to the NW. Transport and required health certificate are included in his adoption fee. Please email for more information and an adoption application. (Less)

|PIease Read Before Adopting a German Shepherd in Washington|
German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
