Great old boy. He is well trained and great with people and even special needs kids. He will bring you his bowl when he wants food and lets you know when he wants out. He is good with older big dogs. He does not like to be left alone. He is a great dog.

Animal ID: STO-1291Yoshie (female)
This beautiful Wild Child is a 'diamond in the rough'. She is purebred German Shepherd dog (and has the AKC papers to prove it), but has had no training in obedience or manners. In her enthusiasm, she will knock you over. She loves people, just doesn't know how to greet properly. Yoshie is a very smart girl, though, and is anxious to learn. She knows to 'sit', and will take a treat gently. But that's about the extent of her training. Yoshie needs someone who is experienced with this breed, has the time to teach her manners, and to take her to obedience training. She is a bit mouthy, but that, too, will go away with training. She has a favorite tug toy that she will bring with her, and she relinquishes it easily. She wants to please you, she just doesn't know how. Yoshie is a young dog, just 3 years old, is spayed, current on her vaccinations, and microchipped. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-16-00124Denali (female)
I am a shepherd/husky mix about 6 years old. I am looking for my forever home in the country with my people and a companion dog. I am gentle, obedient, playful, and good around children. I want to be with your companion. I moved from the Colorado Rockies with my owner and she wants what is best for me. I don't like living in the city and I need a family. I am an amazing dog but I have anxiety when I am left alone because I was abandoned as a pup. Please consider me as your forever companion only if you are able to provide the right setting for me to be successful. I won't disappoint you! Denali :)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-12-00030Luna (female)
Luna is a pure bred German Shepherd with classic look and black and tan markings. She weighs about 70 lbs. She turned 1 year old in November 2016. She has been in great health with just a slightly sensitive tummy (we avoid any human scraps except lean meat like chicken or lean steak). She has had pet insurance since a pup and is covered for everything, including genetic conditions such as hip dysplasia (however she has no signs). She was very well socialized with dogs from an early age and went to dog daycare a few days a week. She loves all other dogs (especially small dogs!) and was also raised with a cat who is one of her best buddies. She was also raised with two small children (age 3 and 1 year). As a result she has a very gentle mouth and great bite inhibition. Luna has basic obedience training, she knows sit, lay down, stay (although a bit on her terms :) leave it, no, and okay. She is very smart and knows only to chew her dog toys and bully sticks. She even picks out the appropriate chew toy amongst a floor full of kids toys. She is housebroken and never had any accidents. She loves to play ball at the dog park or in the yard and also loves walks and hikes. She is a good leash walker and does not pull (we use a chest clipped harness to help with leash training). She was crate trained as a puppy but now sleeps in our downstairs living room outside her crate. Luna is a medium energy dog. She has a burst of energy around 10am when we usually go to the park, a short walk or just play a bit in the yard. Then she sleeps and relaxes most the day until another little burst of energy in the evening around 5pm. It really doesn't take much to keep her exercised and happy. Luna also has stranger aggression which is the only reason we are looking to re-home her. She barks protectively at the door when it rings and needs to be put away or watched very closely when having guests in the house. She is amazing and trustworthy with the kids she was raised with, however, she should NOT be in another home with kids. The best home for her would be a single adult or adult couple without kids. A new owner should have experience with the GS breed. Also, she has been raised in a home where someone was always home, so she would not likely do well if left alone for long periods. Companionship of another dog would be ideal to smooth a transition and would probably help if her owner worked away from home all day. She needs someone who is kind and gentle because she is a very sweet and sensitive dog. She was trained using positive reinforcement techniques and responds best to these methods. (Less)

Animal ID: 72705Rokki (male)
Meet Rokki, a gorgeous dog who we believe is a Pharaoh Hound/ shepherd mix and approximately 4 years-old. Rokki is a very intelligent dog who already knows how to 'sit', 'lay down', 'shake', 'roll over' and who loves attention and going for walks--where he is very polite on the leash. He would love his new home to have a 6 foot wood fenced yard for him to safely run and play with tennis balls. Rokki should not go to a home with cats or small animals. Rokki is very playful and big so he would do best in a home with children over the age of 10. If you have children over the age of 10 or other dogs at home, please bring them down to meet him. Rokki can't wait to meet you so come on down today! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-22-00008Tahoe (male)
TAHOE is amazing! Sweet friendly and a great dog, you will love him and he is gorgeous too. We believe him to be a German Shepherd/Husky mix. He is 80#s and just absolutely loving and affectionate. We gave him a birthday of March 2014 so he is about 3 yrs old. He has lots of energy and would be good for a high energy family. He is good with people and has learned to 'Sit' but 'Stay' still evades him. He is great in his foster home in Lacey, Wa and they have an 8 pound dog. He is potty trained and super sweet and loving and loves to play. Not a couch potato dog. We have been practicing SIT before he is fed to teach him to calm down. He does not jump on you but can be known to run around you if you do not exercise him. Like any younger dog he does need daily exercise. He is not good with cats...The prey instinct is there. He has not experienced being in a home and having house manners. He needs guidance but he's willing. Tahoe's fur was in horrible condition when he first came to us but has since become super soft. You must see the additional pictures we have of his coat showing some 'dappling' Tahoe is heartworm negative and on prevention. I would not recommend small children around him until he is trained more manners. He wouldn't hurt a child on purpose but he is large enough to unknowingly knock them down. Adoption Fee: $395 Includes all the medical, microchipping, health certificate for travel and all travel expenses up to his foster home in Lacey WA. Ater we approve your application you meet him to adopt him! https://form.jotform.com/PNWdogs/PetCentral that is the link to the simple online application. (Less)

Rocky is a male Shepherd mix. He is around eight months old. Rocky loves attention and he is very affectionate. He is pretty young and needs a family willing to train him. Rocky enjoys going outside to play and go on walks. He would do well in a home with no young children and no cats. Rocko is believed to be an Akita shepherd mix. He is about 2 years old. He gets along with dogs, cats, and kids. No known health issues, current on shots, neutered. He is the whole package, the perfect dog. Only quirk he has is that he likes his privacy to go number 2 so he definitely needs a yard :)

Loving puppy that has hip dysplasia and will need an operation. Please research what this will take before contacting us. He is AKC but the main thing is to have his hips replaced or hip joints shaved off. consult your vet before you agree to take this guy. It is not a cheap procedure.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-20-00488Lando (male)
**UPDATED 3/26** Attractive and fun but high-strung 'tri-color' (bits of white on paws and chest) mixed breed dog, ~70 pounds, needs home free of small kids by May. He bit a child in December, after which he started medication that has improved his mood. He is NOT generally aggressive or destructive (but does have a 'resource guarding' instinct and is a bit moody). So, he needs an owner without small kids who is experienced with difficult dogs or is patient and willing to learn. He's great at ball, Frisbee, hiking, swimming, camping, etc. He loves to greet guests, but he's a good guard dog. We love him, but have too many kids around to keep him after the bite incident. And we don't want to put him down! We'd be happy to dogsit regularly and help in transition (if your location is reasonably convenient to Bellingham) or when you are off on dog-free vacations. So, this dog might be good for you if you occasionally travel or need to not have a dog when you have kid visitors but otherwise would like a companion. He's good on the trail and at the dog park. He usually gets along with other dogs but has not lived with any (we are happy to discuss details about likely matches, but he's not likely to get along well with other large dominant dogs--or at least it would take slow integration). He has lived with and gotten along with cats, but he'd need a bit of refresher training on that! If you wish, he might be trained for hunting, agility, or some other 'job,' as he's pretty smart and eager to learn. If you may be able to help Lando by offering him a new home, please contact us. He is currently in Fort Worth, TX but will be making the trek to Olympia, WA scheduled to arrive on Saturday, April 29th. |Rescue Me ID: 16-05-30-00026Boe (male)|
Bo was brought in as a feral dog. For some time no one could lay a hand on him, a young boy came to volunteer at the shelter and dedicated his time to Boe. Over a few weeks time Boe gradually came out of his shell interacting with humans and other dogs. He did so well that he became available for adoption and found a home. His new owners had claimed that they had the time and energy to work with him but were not quite ready for the responsibility of working with an animal that needed so much investment of time and also because he was killing their chickens he was recently returned. He has taken it well and has been reunited with his little boy friend. We are hoping to find a permanent home for him. Only serious inquiries will be answered and individuals must be willing to spend time with him prior to adoption (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a German Shepherd in Washington
German Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Washington if they match your IifestyIe. The German Shepherd is a large, highly intelligent working dog. German Shepherds are very protective, but not hostile; they make great guard dogs and wonderful companions. German Shepherds should be well socialized early in life. German Shepherds that are properly trained and socialized are good with children and other pets. This breed can adapt to apartment life with sufficient exercise.
