A huge thank you for this site and the work you do! We love our dogs dearly. When our infant son was diagnosed with severe allergic asthma (dog dander being a huge trigger), we were devastated. We tried many, many different avenues to find an approved home with no leads from any of them. It was very discouraging. While it took several leads, it was because of this site that Frida found a great, new home. Thank you Rescue Me for all you do!

We picked up our beautiful, white Shepherd/Lab mix today. She is a bit timid, probably gone through a lot of trauma in her young 10 months, but we feel assured that we can gain her confidence with our love and compassion. Rescue Me is very helpful, and Heather, who we received the dog from, was so thoughtful and caring for our baby. She showered us with toys, gifts, treats, collar, harness, micro chip, etc. This adoption was a beautiful experience and we thank everyone who was involved. -Rick and Lindsay

I spent several frustrating days combing the local animal shelters for a puppy or young GSD mix, without luck. The dogs were either patently Pit Bulls or Pit mixes (they are just not my breed), or older than my husband wanted to commit to. It took him 10 years to get over our last dog passing and be ready for a new dog, so I had to respect his desire to have a dog with its whole life ahead of it. I got in touch with a couple of local breeders, but pure bred puppies are much more than I want to fork over, when all I really want is a healthy dog with a calm disposition. Then I searched google and the German Shepherd section of Rescue Me came up. I found a number of great candidates a couple hours away. After emailing about several promising possibilities, we made arrangements to drive to meet two of them. The first dog was just not going to be fit for us temperament wise (it needed a home with other dogs in my opinion), but the second one was a match made in heaven. I wanted a dog with the right temperament to be a good therapy dog, and Mystic's foster Mom had just commented to the organizer at Working Dogs Rescue that she would make a great therapy dog. Mystic totally fell for my husband (we have that in common!). We applied, got home inspected, and 24 hours after meeting her, Mystic came home with us. Thank you, Rescue Me!

I had Shadow for about three weeks or a little more. When he got to me, I know he needed a lot of love better care. I posted everywhere about him in hopes of finding a great home for him. Yes, I was being very picky as well because Shadow is a great boy. I had to make sure he would be placed in a good forever home. Plenty of calls came from Rescue Me, and finally a family came. Shadow really connected with them was extra loving towards them. I could tell they were amazing fur baby owners. I am forever thankful to them. I am heartbroken since he is no longer with me, but I couldn't keep him and he deserves the best. It was hard getting up at 5:00 AM and not have him there waiting to greet me and give me kisses. But in my heart, I know he is in a great loving home.

First, I would like to, personally, thank Kathy, a very thoughtful, kind, considerate and caring volunteer. She knew of a 'very special person who would love to give Gunther a home. I felt it, only right, to await requests from interested parties, before considering her insight and knowledge about that 'very special person.' I received a number of requests, each wanting to give Gunther the perfect home. I would like to thank everyone who contacted me. Gunther is unlike most, if not all, GSD's up for adoption. He is a West German bred, high drive, high energy pup. All who contacted me, claimed to have knowledge and experience, in raising a high energy, high drive, 11 month old GSD pup, bred in West Germany. I thoroughly researched import GSD's before making the decision to pay a premium price for an authentic GSD. Having had the honor to work and train him for the past ten months has been a rewarding challenge and one that I enjoyed. I never imagined the day would come when I'd have to make the extremely heartbreaking decision to find him another 'very special person.' Life is full of twists and turns. And, I found myself, having to make a decision, that was unexpected, overwhelming, and seemed impossible. All, but two, interested parties, seemed to vanish, when I responded, in great detail, to their adoption requests. I contacted each person, and, in great detail, made them aware of the responsibilities in owning and training an import GSD. They are not your average, US bred, German Shepherd Dog. They are highly intelligent, high energy, high drive dogs. An import GSD is not for everyone. I quickly learned, most had, little, if any knowledge, on West German, hard drive, working line GSD's. This made my difficult decision, even more difficult. I wasn't simply placing a GSD; I was placing my GSD... An eleven month old, import, that I had painstakingly, and patiently worked and trained over the past, nearly ten months. He knew commands in, both, German and English. Training wasn't always easy, but I never gave in or gave up. I spent every waking hour with him, molding him into a pup, I believed that could, and would achieve his highest potential, if placed in the hands of a 'very special person.' That individual contacted me shortly after I posted on Rescue Me. Many others followed, while he and I began a flurry of emails. He knew my high expectations, and I knew what he was looking for in a GSD. Through those emails, I learned he had been involved in Schutzhund/IPO for thirty years, and had titled his GSD. With his extensive background, knowledge and experience in Schutzhund/IPO club membership, and having titled his GSD, I still wasn't certain he was that 'special person that I had been searching for. After all, Gunther was a, 'momma's boy.' Yesterday, we met, and he spent a great deal of time with Gunther. Within the first fifteen minutes, I realized he and Gunther had already formed a 'special bond.' They were working as one, each enjoying the others company. Gunther performed all that this 'special person' had expected him to do. Call it fate, call it Devine intervention, call it God's work, but, whatever it is called, their chance meeting, was meant to be. They were meant to be together. I was, both happy and saddened as I watched them work together, as if they'd been training together for nearly ten months. Almost instantly, he loved and adored Gunther. And, Gunther responded in kind. Watching them work, I quickly realized Gunther had, once again, put his love, faith and trust in the hands of another. Gunther was no longer my shadow. This brought tears and also began a relationship I had been praying for. My heart broke as Gunther was loaded into this 'very special persons' vehicle. I stood in the driveway, heartbroken, with tears streaming down my cheeks, as they drove out of sight. As painful as this was, I realized Gunther, now, had a new owner who'd not only love him as much as I do, but had the training, knowledge, skills and experience to make Gunther the best that he could be. This was something, I could not offer Gunther. Gunther will now be given the opportunity to be the best that he can be. I had no right to hold him back. I know in my heart, with the help of 'this special person,' Gunther will begin doing all that he was bred to do. Thank you Rescue Me, Kathy and that 'very special person.' Respectfully, Patricia

When I first saw Batman on the site, and then had communications with the contact and the foster family, I knew that I had to meet Batman. Upon his arrival, Batman made fast friends with my kids and I and our other dog. We have since adopted Batman and can't imagine him not being part of our family. The process is well laid out and easy to follow. Everyone involved in the Rescue Me organization are great and full of information.

After 12 years together, I recently loss my two canine companions. I knew adoption was the best way to save another furry friend. When I read Ken's heartbreaking posting of seeking a new home for his 'best friend', my heart sank to the floor. I knew I had to reach out. Several weeks of correspondence led to Pony Boy choosing my family. (Ok the owner had 50% of the decision making) He is a perfect addition to our 'pack.' Our family has grown with Pony Boy and the extension of the previous owner, Ken! Thank you, REscue Me, for this fantastic forum.

Bear came into our home yesterday and seems to be relieved to be out of the shelter. Here and there, we're seeing little parts of his true personality emerge (like burying his bones in my comforter lol) and it's a sign to us that he's happy. Animal Services did an awesome job with him, changing him from aggressive to mild mannered and just happy to be sitting next to anyone willing to pet him and show him some love. I took him for a walk yesterday and he was amazing. He never left my side and never pulled on the chain; I was actually surprised. We have a large fenced in backyard, but he prefers to be around people. Despite my many attempts to play with him, Bear runs back inside to see what everyone is up to. Currently, he is sleeping on my bed and soon he is going to get his first bath so we can get that kennel smell off of him. That will be another new experience in his new forever home. Thank you, Rescue Me for featuring Bear on your site and for connecting us to Fulton County Animal Services. It has been a great experience for everyone, particularly Bear.

I posted an 11 year old German Shepherd for adoption with a prayer an angel would show up to adopt him. He is not my dog; I was posting for someone else. He had been chained out all his life. He never experienced a bath. And by the way, he is blind. Despite this, he had a wonderful demeanor, standing tall and looking gorgeous. A young man felt compassion for his story that a veteran of the army was the one surrendering him. His heart connected with his special needs, and was so handsome! That young man sacrificed some things, no doubt. The Shepherd had his first warm bath and blow dry, nail trim, and rode to his new home wearing a brand new collar, lying on a new blanket, with a new, better diet. He has a life in his new home with his very own pet cats who rub his face! His vet appointment will determine his future health. Perhaps if things go well now, he will get help for his eyes because his condition is unique. Time will tell. I have never stopped my prayers. Thank you, Rescue Me!

I have been rescuing puppies from the Island of Aruba for the past 15 years. In Aruba, they do not spay and neuter their dogs. The island is overpopulated with stray dogs that are starving in the streets. Many owned dogs have puppies that are unwanted. Many unwanted puppies and dogs are brought to a place call 'the Kill Cages' where they leave their puppies, dogs, kittens in a hot room with no water or food. There is no human supervision at this place and the next morning a man comes and kills the animals. Some are not even dead yet when they throw them in the back of a pickup truck and throw them in the dump. So, I save as many pups as I can. I take them to the vet in Aruba, have their blood and stool tests, then antibiotics, vaccinations and dewormed. Then, if healthy, get them health certificates and bring them back to the States for another vet visit, fostering, and eventual adoption to good forever homes. I also assisted this past month with a major spay/neuter program, there called Operation Cunucu where we spayed and neutered 338 dogs. Additionally, I help raise funds for a local shelter and spay/neuter clinic and help a cat rescue program. This is the first time I used Rescue Me to try to find homes for these gentle pups, and it was quite successful in finding a lovely family to adopt this precious pup. Although I do this on my own, I do an adoption application, a meet and greet with the pups then a home visit to make sure the home is a good one. Any chance you can add Aruba Cunucu to the breed of dogs on your list? It is hard to figure where these pups belong in terms of breed. They are mixed breed descended from the Iberian Hound and Portuguese Pendango that were brought by explorers in the 1600s and Arowak Indian dogs that were native to the island. Thank you for your efforts in helping all these animals to find forever homes.

About two months ago, we lost our German Shepherd Maximus, he was 12 plus and the love of our lives. So after the tears started to dry, I started to look on the internet to adopt a German Shepherd. I happened to find this site in all my searches, and saw a German Shepherd(s) I would like to adopt. We filled out the proper application, and low and behold, my husband and I adopted King. We are so excited. We could not have found a better dog. King fit all our needs, friendliness, fun loving, happy boy! Oh, did I forget to say beautiful. After several interviews, we were selected to be his adoptive family. If I had not found Rescue Me, I would still be searching. Instead, we are excitedly waiting for our new family member. We will be giving a donation to both Rescue Me as well as where we are adopting him from. If you are looking for a dog, I can only say, have some patience, and you will also find the new member of your family. Thank you Rescue Me! -Janice Gatulis

Jiggy went to a loving home up North and has been doing great so far. I continue to stay in touch, but can share that she has experienced living on some land with room to run and play; kids she adores and parents who love her so and spoil her! I am very grateful for the wonderful people who came into her life and she is now the Diva in her own domain. Her sister misses her, but she too is the Diva in her own domain and does not have to be fearful of any attacks over possessions. It is truly a win win situation. Both dogs get to be the alpha female in their own homes, and both dogs receive love daily from their families. Jiggy's new home with three children get a dog for Christmas...      Thank you so much for having this rescue site. We had over 25 requests about Blue. We have decided on a family with an 11 year old German Shepherd and an 11 year old son. They have a lot of land for Blue to run around on. Thank you again, Rescue Me, for your help. Keep up the good work.

I rescued Nova about three months ago off the streets. She had been hit by a car, neglected, and abused. I nursed her back to health with the help of the Bradford Park Veterinary staff and was able to place her in a loving, forever home today. I am so happy that Nova is going to be loved and given the life that she deserved in the first place. Thanks, Rescue Me.

Abbey has been placed with a wonderful family with an only child, which is a perfect match for her. We met with the family twice before making her placement official. When they came to take her home forever, she was so excited to see them that she hopped right into their vehicle and went home. They have shared pictures with us of her new bed, but she prefers to sleep with her boy and her big, fenced-in yard. She goes to the schools to have children read to her, and is very content and happy with her new family. Thank you, Rescue Me.

Max is a gorgeous German Shepherd I rescued off the streets who is heart worm positive. Unable to keep him, friends and I began searching for people and then rescue organizations that would take a heart worm positive dog. Weeks of emailing and calling numerous rescue organizations, including several dedicated solely to German Shepherds, without success (often with no response whatsoever) I posted Max on Rescue Me. I received several responses within days. After corresponding and checking vet references, I've found what I firmly believe is the perfect forever home for Max where he will be loved and well cared for. Thank you for literally saving Max's life!

I'm so glad I came across this site to find a loving home for my dog! I will miss him, but I know he will do well in his new home. Thank you Rescue Me!

We adopted Noah through Rescue Me. He is not only absolutely beautiful, but also a blessing. We also have a 13 year old German Shepherd we rescued and, believe it or not, she was actually chasing the ball around the yard with Noah. That is something she has NEVER done. He is making her feel young again. I want to thank his wonderful previous parents. You both came into our lives when we needed you.

Thank you, Rescue Me, for helping me find Copper his fur-ever home!! Copper was a stray that I rescued off the streets. He was emaciated, covered in ticks and missed dodging a truck... Twice. After taking him to be vetted and neutered, I posted this sweet pup on Rescue Me. Within a few days, the emails started rolling in. A few weeks later.... Copper is now in his fur-ever home with his new Mommy. Again, thank you Rescue Me!!!

To all of you looking for a best friend: My husband has cancer. I love my husband with all my heart. He lost his best friend, a black lab, a couple years ago. I know my husband's favorite dog in the whole world is a German Shepherd. I was determined to get my husband his favorite dog. I looked everywhere. Then, one day, I came across this Rescue Me site. I saw a post saying 'Rescue Me'... Well, it was a miracle. We adopted Jimbo, and he seems to be very happy. I love to see him running and playing with his toys. My husband is happier than I have seen him in a long time. Thank you for making it so easy to make my husband and Jimbo so happy. You are doing good things by helping people and Shepherds come together. -Donna

Bruno was with us (Almost Home Rescue/Sanctuary) for seven months. I couldn't believe it, because I had taken several BEAUTIFUL pictures of him and put them online. Several inquiries, yes... But not the right home for him. Bruno is a high energy boy and things had to be just right for him. Yes, you have to have a fence. No, I'm not adopting to people with toddlers.... On and on the list went. And then along came the most perfect home!!! A woman who had had Shepherds all her life, had a really large home with a fenced yard and missed her GSD's so, so much! She has excellent vet references, etc.... Perfect. She came to my home and the bonding has been just amazing! Wow! She has sent pictures and stories in these couple of weeks since the adoption and all is well in Bruno-land! Thank you Rescue Me for helping to facilitate this special match! -Kim

Champ and Izzy have both been adopted by a loving family. My husband and I drove them to the home and watched as the mom and dad made contact with them. We stayed with them for about three hours or so while they were adjusting to their new home, then we left. We believe this couple with their three children are the right fit for the dogs. We are keeping in touch with them and giving support as needed. We provided them with food, treats and their kennels. Thank you so much for the wonderful response we had to the posting of our two wonderful dogs on Rescue Me. We will miss them, however we know this is the best for them.

Twice now I have had very successful adoptions from using Rescue Me. I appreciate the site more than I can say. I adopted out a 17 year old Bichon a few moths ago (my dad's dog, he is 95 and had broken his hip and could no longer take care of his little dog). Duffy went to a wonderful home where he is loved. Today, I found a wonderful new home for my German Shepherd mix (I'm having health problems myself and can no longer care for her). Rescue Me rocks!!

Shadow was just picked up by a wonderful family who drive seven hours to get him. They spent hours with us to get to know him, his quirks and his temperament. Since he has been trained to do so much they even took the time to learn all his commands and how to reinforce them. He is going to a home with wide open space so that he can use up all his energy. Thank you Rescue Me for helping us find him a great home. Let's all hope it works out great...

Rescue Me was so very helpful in finding Mongo a great home. I cannot thank you all enough. Mongo was not to greatest at being with other animals, nor strangers and when this awesome couple called me saying they were looking for another shepherd to be friends with their eight month old female Shepherd. I was a little nervous if it would work out. They came down to visit, and Mongo he took to them right away. It was their puppy who took longer to adjust, but within an hour, they were running around the yard playing and having a great time. Even though it was so very hard to give him up and he is part of me, I am so very blessed to have found a great new home for him. He loves running and playing with his new stepsister. Thanks again for everything! -Cheryl

I had a German Shepherd who needed a loving home, and if it weren't for Rescue Me, I don't know what we would have done. I received several requests to adopt Mathias.      It has been a new experience for me to be a foster mom to a rescued pet. Lily has been wonderful. She came to me a shy, withdrawn dog and has blossomed into a 70 pound puppy! It has been amazing to watch her learn to play and really stretch those long legs of hers! She is going to a wonderful couple who will treat her like one of their children. She will certainly rule the roost as the only pet in the house! Luckily, I will still get to be 'auntie' to this beautiful, loving dog who was rejected by her original adoptive family. Lily has certainly made my attitude change about fostering other animals in the future. I now look forward to helping other pets find their forever homes one at a time. Thank you, Rescue Me, for posting Lily for me. Without your help, another dog would have been euthanized for no reason. Thank you again. -Aimee

I am very happy to have found Rescue Me. I received many calls from very nice families interested in adopting my dog. Had I not posted through this site, I would have ended up having to give up my dog to a shelter, which I really couldn't do. The family my dog ended up going to is perfect for my dog and have no doubt he will have a great quality life. I will recommend this site to everyone. I never had any spam calls or negative experiences here.

Walle came into the local shelter and tested heartworm positive, a result that usually warrants euthanasia. The shelter manager has worked on holding these animals for as long as possible based on the budget hoping a rescue can pull the dog and save it. I found Rescue Me after receiving an email apparently generated from working with Petfinder for this facility. I posted on the site in the past for animals running out of time for adoption and most recently for a heartworm positive, now successfully treated, dog that I decided to treat and foster until a rescue or adopter came forward to take him. When Walle came to the shelter, his disposition was so great that he was worth the effort to see if someone could get him out. His picture was posted less than a week before someone saw him and wanted to adopt him. I had just come from a local vet with a price of $600 to treat him and was sure that he would not get out of the shelter due to the cost. Then someone saw his picture and fell in love with him. He was adopted two days later. Not all of these dogs can be saved, but everyone that makes it out is a good thing. I have already posted the next one and hope the outcome is just as good. Thank you, Rescue Me!

Gunnarr is the most playful, outgoing, sweet boy. I love the shepherd breed so I was looking at a website that locally sold German Shepherds. From their website, I actually came across Resume Me and I fell in love as soon as I saw his picture. I'm all for rescue and adoptions so I went from there. The woman I spoke with that helped me through the whole process was amazing! They were all so helpful. I drove three hours one way to pick this handsome guy up. When he came running up to me, I knew I made the right decision! I promise to give Gunnarr the best life possible, and nothing less than what he deserves. I promise to fill his life with more love than he'll know what to do with, and to make sure he has nothing less than the best. Thank you all so much for this opportunity!

Wonderful experience indeed! We had heard through the Facebook grapevine that this beautiful GSD was set to be euthanized very soon. That just wasn't an option. Especially after we met. Our family lives in the wide open country. We have the heart, space, and experience working with and training GSD's. This boy is going to fit in here just fine. Thank you Rescue Me!

While she was a friendly dog, we had never seen her do this prior to anyone, other than her owner. So, this truly was a PERFECT match!      We have had five German Shepherds in the past and are absolutely in love with the breed because of their loyalty and disposition. We lost our last buddy in 2007. It broke our hearts so bad we had sworn we weren't going to get another, but with time we felt the pull at our heartstrings and began searching casually. This casual search became earnest approximately five months ago. We began looking for a new buddy every evening and feared that our blessing would take far too long for either of us. When we came across a Jade's picture, we immediately knew we had found the one we had been waiting for, and feel that she had been waiting for us too. Our hearts are completely stolen. She is our first female shepherd. We have only been home for about an hour, but she has already made herself right at home. We have truly been blessed. Thank you, Rescue Me.
